I completely agree with the customer who said in their review of Hammer Jewelers "if you want good customer service go anywhere else". I had a very old ring in which Mr. Hammer placed a semi-precious stone. I chose this jeweler because another jeweler in town said he was the only person she knew of who had a particular laser needed to set a stone in this sort of ring. The stone Mr. Hammer chose was too deep for the ring, causing the culet to scratch into my finger. That particular stone should never have been placed in the ring to start with. Mr. Hammer's remedy was to cut the culet off which left the stone looking as though it had a hole in the center. It looked terrible. When I tried to bring this to Mr. Hammer's attention (I say "tried" because he angrily and aggressively kept interrupting me) he told me two things: 1) he said back in the old days it was common to cut the culet off in this situation and 2) he said that he told me when I drop the ring off that that's what he was going to do. First this is not the old days. Second, the day I dropped the ring off I dealt mainly with the worker (a blond girl). The only dealing I had with Mr. Hammer that day was him showing me the peridot he had in stock, talking about himself and about how many generations the business has been in the family. He came across as self-absorbed, arrogant, not a good listener, and never mentioning anything regarding particulars of the stone. I tried to tell Mr. Hammer that I should have been told before any cutting was done to the stone to which he replied "I don't have time to talk to every customer before I do things with their stones". I feel the customer should be notified before a stone is changed. As I attempted to make this point he kept interrupting me to the point where I finally said "do you mind not interrupting me so I can say just one complete sentence"! Needless to say, that did not go well causing Mr Hammer to step back and, with a very sarcastic smirk on his face, say "go ahead, say anything you like". At that point, it was clear that my trying to get him to understand the point I was trying to make was a frustrating waste of time so I asked for my ring back. He would not give it to me saying he would put another stone in it but I would have to pay for that stone. I told him I didn't think I should have to pay for another stone since he ruined the first one I already paid for. Again, I asked for my ring and again, there was another lengthy and unnecessary exchange. Eventually, and quite displeased, he said he would put another stone in the ring and not charge me for it. Not knowing if there was another jeweler in town who had the ability to set a stone in this kind of ring, and going against my better judgment, I left the ring with Mr. Hammer. When I left there I was shaking because of the anger and disrespect shown to me by Mr. Hammer. When I got home I felt very uncomfortable with my decision so I drove back to pick up my ring. When I got to Hammer Jewelers I told Mr. Hammer I wanted to pick up my ring and he said "no, you don't need to do that". I told him I didn't want him to work on my ring because of the way he treated me earlier. Again, he refused to give me the ring. Only after my third request did he take me seriously and finally give my ring back. This little gold ring does not have much financial value, but it has a great deal of sentimental value. I found this stoneless ring while metal detecting in England, my mother's homeland. Eight years ago, I lost both of my parents in an accident and chose my mother's birthstone, a peridot, for this ring as a way to honor her. Because of the treatment of Mr. Hammer, I just couldn't leave this special little ring in a place like that. Mr Hammer blamed his bad behavior on having just received some concerning medical news. What Mr. Hammer needs to realize is that we all, every customer who walks in that store, are fighting some sort of battle and that we all deserve to be treated with respect. He also needs to realize that there is no way I will ever step foot in Hammer Jewelers again. I did, by the way, find another jeweler who can place a stone in my ring and am looking forward to working with a kind and respectful jeweler. read more

Brought in a watch to have the metal bracelet buffed out. Went over the watch and was given a price of $49. I left the watch and was told it would take a few days. When I pick it up it was not buffed out. I was told this was for a cleaning, not to "refurbish" the bracelet. If that was the case the "cleaning" was really, really bad too. This place is a total rip off. Steer clear or hold on to your wallet. After posting this review I did receive a call from the owner who wanted to provide a refund or store credit. The best jewelry store ever!! Family run and a veteran as well. I have had several pieces of jewelry repaired here and a watch band link added to my son's watch over the years. Today, I stopped in to have a diamond bracelet repaired and a appraisal done. They noticed my ring and took a look at it and there was a diamond loose in the setting. Even helped me get the ring off my finger with windex. They are very helpful and very friendly. They have beautiful jewelry available in their store as well. i needed a simple repair - replace a battery apparently they do this so seldom, the battery must have discharged on the shelf - or else he had a used one....and had the gall to charge me $15 after 20 minutes of waiting for the changeover, i finally got my watch back, then a month later the watch started stopping - a sign of battery wear i was in southeast asia at the time, went into a shop and had them test it - battery was bad, and got a long lasting replacement for $7, and waited for less than 3 minutes for him to change it. what a deal!! i'd be careful about this store def don't get your watch battery changed there read more
