We booked three nights of dry camping and arrived Friday excited to start our weekend. Unfortunately, we barely made it 24 hours before deciding to leave because of the way we were treated. We were told by another man at the campground that we were permitted to run our quiet generator overnight. The posted cutoff time was 9:00 AM, and we fully intended to shut it off by then. At approximately 8:50 AM the following morning, a woman who lives on-site who is named Karen (no pun intended)- and appeared to run the facility came pounding on our RV door, yelling at us about running the QUIET generator all night. We tried to explain that we had been told we were allowed to do so and that we were going to shut it off at the required time. Instead of having a reasonable conversation, we felt that we were essentially pushed out and harassed during the short time we were there. We also had our baby with us, and it was a hot summer night. Being told that we should have simply opened the windows was incredibly frustrating and felt completely dismissive of our situation. We came to enjoy a three-night camping weekend and instead left after barely 24 hours because of how uncomfortable and unwelcome we were made to feel. We have never experienced this kind of treatment at a campground before. Unfortunately, based on this experience, we will never be returning to Hampton State Park RV Camping. The way we were treated was completely unacceptable and left us extremely disappointed and disgusted with the experience. She told us and I quote "this is a campground, not a prison" But clearly it wasn't. read more

You'd think after living in Boston for decades I'd have visited Hampton Beach before but.... no. My co-worker has been telling me about it for years but it took looking for a place to meet a friend driving from Portland halfway for lunch before making my way. My review of the Boardwalk Pub & Café is elsewhere, but after we ate walked along the boardwalk. The beach is gorgeous, not at all crowded on this warm-ish September afternoon. A little windy for me as a beach day, but there were plenty of people enjoying the beach. There are bathroom facilities nearby, a plus. Opposite the beach is a stretch of novelty shops, a casino, an arcade, and many places to sit for a bite or grab a snack on the go. Parking is plentiful; there are lots along the beach and on side streets. There are concerts and events throughout the summer, so I'm sure the place is hopping then. But it's a great place to visit off-season as well. I will return! read more

I had a bad experience Today at Hampton beach. The day went great and was having the best time but when it hit later in the way to get dressed and clean up we went to the bathrooms and they were closed at 615 one of the works there said they were closed at 530 but if there is a line still at 615 wouldn't you think you would keep it open on the 4th of July. Even when we went to the desk to file a complaint about it the worker at the desk said she was going to get the worker to reopen them but they didn't for a while and there was one porta potty . But even the family stalls there were two big lines coming from those bathrooms and then they tell us oh it's closed everyone has to go to the regular bathroom and wait in a line that is really long which is crazy. They need to do something about this it shouldn't happen. I have a picture that shows how many people were there and they shouldn't have only one bathroom open like this. read more

Yesterday I had the worst experience at Hampton beach with some of the most unprofessional, and disrespectful beach patrol staff members I've ever encountered in my life. I was on a trip with some of my family to Hampton Beach in NH and one of my siblings was drinking a beer on the beach, which is prohibited. As you might expect, two of your staff members, Kevin and Ryan I believe were their names, caught them drinking it and came over to our group to have them pour out the beer and issue a warning about further alcohol consumption should it occur. The way they went about communicating this to them unfortunately turned out to be extremely disrespectful and unprofessional. They came up to us very aggressive and began threatening to kick my entire party off the beach, as well as threatening to get my sibling arrested should they get caught with another alcoholic beverage, which all felt very extreme given the situation at hand. Despite the horrible approach taken by the beach patrols, my sibling fully obliged and, with zero contest, they poured their beer out and threw the can away. My sibling then went to go sit back down and was asked by another person with us what had happened and why there was such a big fuss by the beach patrol. Given the nature with which he was approached, my sibling, understandably frustrated with the poor behavior by the beach patrols, answered by saying "these motherfuckers made me pour my beer out, but it's whatever." At this point, a beach patrol staff named Sean that wasn't even a part of the initial situation to begin with, came out of seemingly nowhere and angrily raised his finger and pointed it at my sibling while stepping through our belongings as he walked up extremely close to him yelling "what did you say?" Repeatedly. My sibling remained composed and calm, meanwhile the beach staff continued to get more and more aggressive as the other two staff members just idly stood by throughout the encounter. My sibling continued to do nothing but stand there calmly and was eventually told by this beach patrol staff that he had to 'get off his beach immediately' in a very disrespectful tone. My sibling once again stood there calmly and again, obliged. He gathered his things and swiftly exited the beach's premises. This situation was very unfortunate and we tried speaking with the head of the beach patrol but he simply stood by his staff, fully defending their extremely poor behavior and harassment of my sibling and my entire party. He even went as far as accusing me of being aggressive for simply approaching him with criticism about his staff, which was completely ridiculous. Upon the conclusion of my conversation with the head of the Hampton beach patrol, my party and I quickly gathered all of our things and immediately left the beach given how unprofessional and disrespectful the people tasked to patrol this beach had been to all of us throughout both situations explained above. This was the worst experience me or any of my friends and family have ever had at any beach we've ever gone to and we will never be returning to this place, as it was made very clear on many occasions that people that look like us aren't wanted there. Love this beach. Clean, big, and no rocks. Great boardwalk with lots to do, and while it gets crowded the strolling area is large enough. Sand is soft and while the water is cold--it's NH so, duh. We were taking a day trip up to New Hampshire, and were looking for a fun place to go as a first-timer to the state. After driving around Manchester to find a lot of local businesses were closed on Sunday, we trekked over to Hampton Beach, and ended up having a blast! I was not sure what to expect upon coming here, but I was surprised at how pretty the area is... One minute you are driving through the woodsy highway of NH, the next you are suddenly seeing white sand and the ocean! We primarily hung out around the boardwalk shopping, and happened to find that just about everyone there was really friendly! There are all kinds of cute shops, restaurants and casinos. The beach itself is also beautiful. With colonial-style houses lined up on the sides of the shore, you really feel like you're in New England here. It felt like a very large, spaced out area so people were not all on top of each other like how some beaches can get. We really had a great time here, I would absolutely love to come back one day. read more

Hampton Beach is what it is. It is a great spot to cool off and have plenty of fun just over the border from Massachusetts. It is not yet built up and it is extremely affordable. Hence the masses that flock on major holidays. It is very well run and generally kept spotlessly clean. The police are very serious and get the job done. The best attraction is the beach which includes expansive sand, legendary cold water (it's really not that bad most of the time, but when the cold water comes in Holy Ice Cubes), and perfect waves for Boogie Boarding as the tide comes in. In fact, there is no better beach for Boogie Boarding. The beach is also beautiful. Take the time to get there early, stay late or visit off season or during the week when it is pretty much empty. The cast of characters on the beach on a given day varies greatly and those who complained that they smelled weed were right in the description and wrong in the sentiment. The beach is huge and windy, there are areas contextually secluded and areas more family friendly - go with the flow. read more

What makes Hampton Beach so special, though, is almost the carnival style environment it has. The boardwalk area has a lot of stores to go thru, there's an arcade, there tons of restaurants and places to eat nearby! The people are very friendly! One of my regrets is that I spent so little time here! I didn't know it would be this cool and so much fun. Hampton Beach is now in my list of places to return and focus on... maybe have a nice relaxing few days at the beach one day in the future. There's plenty of parking lots (charged) for cars and in walking distance to the beach. The beach is very beautiful and warm. If you get hungry, there's plenty of restaurants along the beach as well. Hampton Beach, thanks for letting me park myself on your sandy beaches for the past 3 days on my own. When we first drove up on Sat, I was overwhelmed by the amount of people and umbrellas that dotted what seemed like every inch of you. It has been a long time since I have been to the Jersey Shore where that was the norm. But once the weekdays rolled around and most schools are back in session, it was pleasantly calmer. I like throwing my towel down in front of the Ashworth, then go for a stroll to either end or both to wet my feet, before plopping down for a little roti tanning action for an hour or two. Water is a bit colder than what I am used to but feels nice when the beach heats up. Because of the boardwalk, it does have something for everyone from a casino for the adults to multiple arcades and a Funarama for kids and those of us who are still young at heart. I grew fond of Hampton Beach and will miss seeing you first thing tomorrow morning. read more

While currently staying at out beach house in Hampton just a few blocks from here, we decided to check out all of the sand sculptures that were built as this part of the beach. Not too many of them, but definitely worth seeing. We came just before a giant thunderstorm rolled through...correct timing. The sand sculptures were interesting to look at. It was still early on a weekday so there weren't as many people there and parking was easy to find. I'm sad that I have to leave this weekend but there is always next summer! read more

What a dump. Not sure about the park..I am referring to the Beach. Way too crowded. Out of date buildings that look like they need an overhaul. This is your typical tourist trap area that brings in all the out of staters. I drove right on by after a 90 minute drive and was thankful to leave. The state of NH has put a lot of money into updating the buildings at Hampton Beach! - There are new bathrooms on the South and North end with outdoor cold showers for rinsing off. - There are new parking spots for motorcycles but bring something to rest your kickstand on as the pavement is so hot the stands are melting and sinking into the ground. - You pay for street parking at various stations according to your spot number. For the day it costs more than parking at one of the lots but it works if you want to pull up for a few hours of sun and fun. - The new main bath house is up and running but still is being worked on. Right now there are no showers but I hope they put some in. - The bathrooms have warm running hand wash sinks. There is liquid soap but you need to squat down low to see the "very little" stem underneath the running water. Most people don't know it is there as there is only one and it is hidden (speaking for the girls rooms). - There are mainly bathrooms, no changing rooms. - They discourage washing your feet in the sinks...go figure. - There are real mirrors now. Not the plastic circus mirrors they use to have that made you look either tall and skinny or short and fat. - The grandstand is still being worked on to be finished in the fall. - New Street signs making it easier to see "Street A" on down the line At the far south end at what I call the actual State Park end, the cost is $15 to park. There are spots for campers to set up, a little store, covered picnic tables and bath house. There are life guards dotting the shore line from end to end and of course the water is cold. We went a few times and it ranged from mid 60's which felt warm down to 55 that gave you that quick fast bite when your foot hit the wave. If you park on the North end before C street you can loop around to take Brown Street making it a tad bit quicker to get to 95. Otherwise you can cruise and people watch as folks go in and out of the various shops. There are signs for new condo going up. With all of the recent renovations and new buildings coming I'd figure the older ones may be investing in upgrades and face lifts soon. read more

Hampton Beach has truly cleaned up over the last 20 years. Sure it's not the Caribbean and it's certainly not Cape Cod, but it's definitely an iconic part of New Hampshire's "small state identity". Getting some last few times in with the pup before the beach closes til May due to COVID-19. Typically, dogs are allowed from March to May on the beach and you'll find tourists from Maine, Mass, Vermont and Québec visiting. The strip is fun on a warm summer night and plenty of restaurants and bars like the Sea Ketch are around for seafood. The shell stage has summer entertainment like cover bands available. Fireworks often happen every Wednesday in the warmer months. For a quieter location, head on over to Rye beach just north of Hampton. read more

In contrast to the majority of the rocky beaches in the Granite State, Hampton Beach State Park is a picturesque beach of soft sand alongside the Atlantic Ocean. In my opinion $15 admission for a million dollar experience is a bargain. Hampton Beach State Park offers the expected beach amenities including restrooms, picnic tables, and life guards during the summer. In my opinion, I think it is so cool that you can splash around in the ocean then walk across the street to McDonald's or several other eateries. There is no need to pack a lunch. With Hampton Beach State Park and Hampton Beach Village there is no reason California dreaming in the summertime. We love this beach so much. It's spacious and beautiful. This trip though, the beach was much dirtier than I'd ever seen it before. People visiting the beach are leaving much more than just foot prints. Dirty diapers, bottles, cans, food wrappers etc. The seagulls were awful, dive bombing people eating on the beach (PEOPLE, don't feed these birds! It's not healthy for them!). Beyond that, we had a great time. The state park does their best, they have lifeguards that truly keep watch over beach goers. I was sad we didn't get as many seashells this time around and still have yet to find a sand dollar whole! All in all, it was a great week spent. The water was nice (no shark sightings, so that was a plus haha). Hope to see the beach cleaner the next time we go, but understand people just don't care as much about the ecosystem they get to visit. Pick up after yourself people! The state park/town have PLENTY of garbage cans available to dump your trash in. read more

The beach itself isn't bad at all. Great food, lots of shops and the beach is clean. However, I went for Memorial Day weekend, and the amount of flies (like fruit flies maybe?) was unbearable. There's nothing someone in particular could do, I just wanted to post a review to warn people. I don't know what they're from, and I'm so curious how so many are there, but they were a nuisance. I'm not exaggerating when I say 20+ at a time were landing all over my body, less so down at the water, but when waiting for food, walking, etc. . It was so uncomfortable, they were on food, drinks, and everyone there. Didn't nite and the flies were obviously harmless but still super annoying to me! read more

Oh the snobbery of New England abounds in other reviews. It's a beach with a boardwalk and no less or more trashy than every other beach up and down the coast. Leave your attitude at home and have some fun. Don't expect fine dining, people dressed in their finest, or attractions such as art galleries or operas on the sand. I'm not quite sure how an individuals weight, body art, or choice of attire makes Hampton Beach trashy. There isn't a dress code. Expect crowds, boardwalk food, a nice clean beach, arcades, and tacky beach t-shirt shops. The locals are nice and it's a great place to unleash your inner 5 year old. If that's not for you, then stay home. They built a huge playground for the little ones. They have fireworks, live music at the Casino Ballroom, and free concerts on a brand new stage on the boardwalk. Worth a visit are: Ashley's General Store, Mrs. Mitchell's, Playland, The Breakers at The Ashworth, and Sea Ketch. You have to pay to park, but you can feed the meters on the beachfront or you can park in a lot for a flat rate for the day. Typically $15 in the summer. What Hampton a Beach is lacking that would be nice: a decent miniature golf place, some amusement rides, a dog park, and some serious enforcement for cars not stopping for pedestrians. It's not particularly dog friendly. Most hotel/motels/rentals won't even consider pets which may send us looking for a new beach to go to in the summer. It's also hard to find grassy areas to walk dogs. I do like that they provide waste bags on the boardwalk and have strict leash laws. Families that want to travel with their 4 legged friends should keep this in mind. Don't snub it, try it. They are making great improvements to attract families and bring some class back to Hampton Beach. It's on it's way up again! read more

We just went to this wonderful beach yesterday. The beach itself is gigantic - approximately 3 miles of lovely, wide, sandy beach. Unfortunately, we were there in the middle of a weekend afternoon, and it was extremely crowded. There was certainly room for everyone, and the people watching was fun (the beach draws people from all over the US and even Canada), but it was a little crowded for my tastes. One of the big draws of this beach is the very long "boardwalk" (actually a sidewalk), with food and games and more food and palm reading. It's a fun place to spend an afternoon and about $20 on entertainment. Also, they have a large theater that houses many nationally-recognized musicians every day of the week. Overall, a good place to go if you're looking for a great beach experience. But, get there early, because parking can be terrible (we saw a lot advertising $30 for the whole day!!!), but we just parked on a side street for free and it worked out for us. read more

People are respectful of your space, the showers and bathrooms are in an okay condition and could use more frequent cleaning (they smelled really bad). No drinking allowed or displayed in public. Hampton Beach police, even though don't cause trouble, they will be there everything you break a community rule. Happened to find this beach while going to a comedy show at the casino. It was night time and I just couldn't get over the beauty of it! Coming from Boston- the stars at night can't compare to those of NH, and even with the strip of stores and their lights shining behind me, the stars were just so clear. My boyfriend and I couldn't believe how clean the beach was! Literally they were combing the sand with their trucks as we were sitting there. We decided to come back the next day and it was PACKED. The beach is huge though so it was ok. We had fun checking out the TONS of shops (and let me just say- for being on the beach, prices are pretty darn good for trinkets and souvenirs!) and arcades. This beach and surrounding strip have everything you can think of for an exciting day with friends and/or family. But beware! The water is FRIGID!! Love this beach. It's not the nicest around but it has a lot of family memories for me and is one I enjoy gong back to year after year. The sand is kindof grainy and the water is often really cold! But somedays like today it was actually pretty warm and pleasant. They have great bath and shower houses and a stage area that often has live entertainment in the evening. They do fireworks during the week on certain days too. There is a boardwalk with games, food, souvenirs etc. In terms of beaches to go to with kids or for young adults I think it's the best. There is lots to do and it's not boring. It's also very safe and fun to walk around at night when things are all lit up. I recommend checking it out of your in New Hampshire. read more

Beautifully renovated boardwalk and quite clean-- that is if you're talking about any plastic cups or food scraps laying on the sand or walkway, which there hardly isn't. However, this beach is definitely not free of "low class" trash. Almost always will you be walking along the shoreline and you smell pot. Look over and there you go! -- potheads smoking their stuff on the beach as well as loud, annoying kids blasting awful "music" from of their jacked up vehicles. Can't even bring my grandchildren here. Probably not the most family oriented beach around. Come early... around 8 AM and leave by 1 PM if you don't want to deal with the above. **Stay away on Friday and Saturday nights. **Police need to monitor this beach more often. read more
