What I like about these guys is they offer the longer 10 hour trip as it takes a while to get out to the better fishing grounds. Captain was always sharing what he is seeing on the radar. Good sized boat and this one only takes out 24 people so you have room and its less crowded at the rail. 1st mates are great and responsive. 2 bathrooms. Even when you are over fish, they don't always bite. Came home with a nice sized bag of Haddock and Pollack this trip as we could not keep Cod this trip...yet. I would go back and I would recommend. Bring plenty of snacks & food as this isn't provided, layers and sun screen (which I forgot) and sunglasses. They provide all the bait you'll need and the gear. read more

We had a nice day on the ocean today, fishing for Haddock. Jay and the crew were very helpful. We found fish, in a couple of places: mostly haddock, pollack & cod (which we couldn't keep). Jay went around personally helping fishers who needed it, including a 10-year-old boy who needed a lot of help. On the way back Jay quickly & efficiently filleted, rinsed & bagged all our keepers for us. He and his orange-suited crewman helped remove fish from our hooks, measure catches and untangle the inevitable snarls. Overall, it was a good day. Areas where they could use some improvement: 1) there was no running water in bathroom sink - need it to wash up after using restroom or before eating lunch, to get bait/fish residue off hands; 2) the crew's cigarette smoke constantly ruined my enjoyment of the fresh ocean air - by the end of the day my sinuses were irritated and I had a headache from the smoke. read more

Best experience compared to fishing with Eastman's, Smith and Gilmore, and Al Gauron.. Had a day of Fishing with my Son and friend and we caught tons of haddock, Pollock, a couple of Cod Fish, and Red fish.. Captain Rick, Mates - Eddie and Jose were the best Mates in helping us get back to fishing whether we had, as Captain Rick called, "A birds nest" or tangle with the other side of the boat.. Captain Rick came down from the cabin to show my son and his friend how to Set the line, where to keep the rod in order to feel the fish bite, and take the fish off the hook. After a few bad experiences with the other charters on the pier I can safely declare Yellow Bird as the best of the bunch. Almost everyone caught a good fish, we didn't run out of beer the whole full day trip and the captain had a great sense of humor as did his crew. Easily recommended. This is a PARTY boat. For those of you who have not taken a fishing charter out before - a word of caution - do not let this be your first experience deep sea fishing (ANY PARTY boat). I prefer the "6-pack" if i'm going to pay for my deep sea fishing. Guys on these boats seem to know what they're doing AND they ACT like it too. The captain & his crew are courteous, but can be blunt (with wit and humor to take the edge off). There's 24-30 people (mostly guys) on this crowded vessel that goes 30+ miles out to sea. So, space is limited. Lines get tangled... etc. For a nominal $60-$80 depending on when you go, its a good deal. Don't forget to tip the mate. read more

Best experience, have been on other boats that were "whatever" This Captain and crew were AWSOME, great energy and overall just a great group of people. We did a marathon trip 5-5 and we killed it, Captain Rick knows where to go and if were not catching anything he moves. The entire crew genuinely wants you to have a great time. Even though it rained and was rough Rick really knows how to handle a boat in bad weather in comparison to other boats I have been on. Everyone walked off the boat with tons of fish, after cleaned I had at least 30lbs of haddock, pollock, and cusk. There were 3 of us and we all said we will never take anyone but Yellow Bird out from here on out and have already planned another trip next month. All I can say is I really love fishing on the yellowbird. Capt. Rick works hard a putting you on the fish even if that means moving around and burning fuel. Most of the party boats will park and sit cause fuel is very expensive, but not the Yellowbird. No fish, he moves to find them. I have fished with him the last two weeks and just booked my 3 trip with him. The crew works hard and wants you to have a good and safe trip. This was my first saltwater and charter fishing experience. The captain and crew are knowledgeable, funny, polite and extremely helpful. They were especially helpful with my 8 year old son. This was my first experience deep sea fishing, let alone on the sea. My boyfriend, Matt, and I took a Marathon trip on the yellow bird and it could not have been more enjoyable. Although 5am sounds early, watching the sun rise was breathtakingly surreal and in the first hour we watched a whale breach 6 times along the sunrise. It was unlike anything we'd seen before and will be a lasting memory. After travelling out about three hours, we came to our first location. Todd was very helpful teaching us how to use the rental equipment as we first started, and we were able to adjust fairly quickly from the freshwater fishing we're used to. We were immediately on the fish. No sooner had our bait hit the floor of the ocean, we were bringing a fish up. As soon as fish became sparse or we were catching the irritatingly invasive species, the Dogfish, cap moved us to a new location for better fishing. As Todd fillet fish all day, Eddie was constantly helping everyone as needed. Between getting fish off the hook or taking care of tangles for everyone. The crew of the yellow bird made fishing as easy and enjoyable as possible. We will definitely be returning to the yellow bird. read more

Every year my brother in law and I take a trip up north for some fishing and this year we decided on the Yellow Bird. We also brought along my 14 year old daughter. First let me say that this is not a really big boat as party boats go, its pretty small and there's not a lot of room to lay down inside. That's the only negative thing I found on this boat. The captain and crew were excellent. They worked their butts off all day.They were very friendly with every one and really made my daughter feel welcome and helped her with anything she needed. As for the fishing we had a good day. We caught about half our quota of fish so it wasn't to bad but not great. You could tell the captain was trying all day to get us on the fish and he didn't give up like so many captain would have. Also the bait was FRESH unlike some boats. If you lost a rig the mates were right there putting a new one on for you without charging you for it which most boats do. They also to their time and did a good job when filleting the fish. I would like to finish by saying that about a week after the trip on went onto their website to see what they said about the trip. Most captains will usually exaggerate a bit (some are just outright liars) but Captain Rick was right on the money with our catch. GREAT JOB! read more

After reading through many reviews and checking prices. My husband and I decided we would join The Yellow Bird for a Memorial Day marathon. The Capt. and his crew were amazing. They truly care about their guests and do anything and everything to make sure that all are taken care of. The weather was not the best as the air had a bit to it and the water was a bit rough. For first timers we felt safe and are extremely satisfied with our outing. It says more than enough when on the ride out you get to speak with "regulars". These guys will not go with anyone else. If the fish were not hitting the capt. moved on to another spot. My husband and I came home with a nice haul of fillets that we will sure enjoy. For first timers as we were the crew was attentive and taught you how to drop the line, hold the rod (so your wrist does not get tired), how to stand on the boat to keep your footing. You pull a fish in and the crew is there to take it off quick so that you can get your line back in the water. They constantly give tips so that you have a great experience with them. If your line gets tangled with another angler the crew is there to work on it. If you lose your rig they work with steady hands and expertise to get your rig back up and line in the water (no extra charge). They clean and fillet your fish for you(no extra charge). The crew works hard for you. If you get a chance head our with the the Yellow Bird.... They are honest and just fantastic. read more

Very disappointed. Made reservations 2 months in advance and get a phone call night before trip saying "there canceling due to not enough people reserved so not going". I dont see anywhere on there website saying theres a minimum amount of people to be able to go . Ruined the trip for my Father and brother too. So if you book with them you might want to call a few days in advance to verify that there not going to cancel on you too. read more
