But that is not why I am willing to drive long distances to play the wonderful game of Golf. It's because I enjoy playing on a golf course that are difficult to get on unless you're a member. And if a family or friend invites to you to play, I never say no. The Vineyards Golf Course is a beautifully designed course that easily blends in with its surroundings. The course has three set of tee boxes which we chose to play the back tees of course. Why??, well because the young men I was playing with can drive ball 300 yards plus and sometimes on the fairway. It sure did not help my game when I attempted to drive the ball the distances they seem capable. I found the Vineyards golf course challenging with its rolling fairways, protected by large meandering sand bunkers, false fronts and hazards. We had a windy day that played in our favor on some holes and others which easily challenged us. The par-3 holes were a variety in length, direction and difficulty. The secondary roughs had fescue grasses and in some cases we were lined up along a corn field farm. Vineyards was much more challenging than I anticipated, but I very much enjoyed the course and would love to play there again before the season ends.

The staff here is by far the worst of the four courses. The staff is just rude and I always seem to run into problems here regarding my green key card. If you live in Suffolk County, you can buy a green key for $20 for 3 years. This gives you a discount at Suffolk County golf courses and parks and gives you the ability to reserve online tee times. The trouble is that you don't find out that until you are there that you need two forms of ID, a recent tax statement, your grandmothers ss# and a blood test to renew your card. You really only need two forms of ID, but who thinks they need a second ID to play a round of golf. A drivers license if acceptable to New York State, but not the golf registration system for Suffolk County. 2nd I was in the clubhouse and overheard the staff on the phone saying to charge "holiday rate" for Veterans day. I am glad I paid "holiday" rate on a day the maintenance crew had off. Not one raked bunker, not one mowed fairway and a ton of leaves on the fairways. Nothing like hitting a monster drive in the fairway only to take a drop b/c you you can't find your ball under a ton of leaves. 4 Stars for the course itself. (Not a 4 star course, but the value bumps it up) Nice layout, challenging, but not too difficult at a good price. Nice course to walk. "Holiday" rate today was $27 + 3$ reservation fee (Walking) Get out early during the week and you can get in a round in ~ 4hrs. Weekend in the summer mid day, easily over 5 hrs. Greens, tee boxes & fairways were in excellent condition today.

The rooms in the "cottages" are truly fantastic- the showers, views, furniture, all top notch. Our cottage included a beautiful billiards table underneath a wall-mounted flat screen HD tv. As for the food in the club house- I'll put it this way. When asked how my meal was, I responded "I have no words... only feelings." Tasty, substantial tuna tartar. Divinely prepared braised short rib, sirloin, seasoned fries, arugula with balsamic reduction. Small but solid craft beer selection- local. Try the Crooked Ladder's brown ale. Attentive but not hovering service from friendly staff. Upon finishing my food I realized that the large majority of patrons to come through the establishment don't think what they experience is special. Trust me, it is.

Fairways that were indistinguishable from the first cut. Sand traps that were hard and full of weeds and greens that were rock hard and burnt to a crisp. So sad. This was once a beautiful course and now it's an absolute dump. Save your money. If we had gotten a good deal at least we would understand why but we paid around $150 for 2 w/a cart. Bad, bad, bad... Even the ball cleaners would omit a dank disgusting odor when you used them The cart girl couldn't even sell us a beer to ease our pain as they no longer have a liquor license. Do the right thing and shut this place down until you get your affairs in order and stop stealing from your patrons.

The pro shop, albeit small, is sufficient to take care of your needs. The locker rooms are clean, spacious and have a wide variety of toiletries for your pre and post golf hygiene. The bar (19th hole) is staffed by servers whom have really heavy hands. The wine pours must be 10 ounces! They also have a good selection of craft beers on draft. There are very few trees for shade at Shinnecock, so on this very hot day, I am under an umbrella when following the action from one hole to another. Well kept is this more than 100 years old course. Memorable Sunday with Fleetwood's -7 and back-to-back win for Koepka. Looking forward for US Open's scheduled return to this course in 2026! CHEERS!
