The only thing "Great" about this course is the "Rock" itself. We've played here quite a few times but for the first time this summer. It was HORRIBLE. Tee boxes full of crab grass. Fairways that were indistinguishable from the first cut. Sand traps that were hard and full of weeds and greens that were rock hard and burnt to a crisp. So sad. This was once a beautiful course and now it's an absolute dump. Save your money. If we had gotten a good deal at least we would understand why but we paid around $150 for 2 w/a cart. Bad, bad, bad... Even the ball cleaners would omit a dank disgusting odor when you used them The cart girl couldn't even sell us a beer to ease our pain as they no longer have a liquor license. Do the right thing and shut this place down until you get your affairs in order and stop stealing from your patrons. read more

This just might be my new favorite golf course on Long Island! From start to finish you are treated like royalty. The bag drop is staffed by very professional young men whom are eager to take your clubs. The driving range is very clean and you get a generous serving of golf balls for $5. The pro shop, albeit small, is sufficient to take care of your needs. The locker rooms are clean, spacious and have a wide variety of toiletries for your pre and post golf hygiene. The bar (19th hole) is staffed by servers whom have really heavy hands. The wine pours must be 10 ounces! They also have a good selection of craft beers on draft. The macaroni and cheese is quite decadent and I recommend having some if you have time. While at the bar, as for Joelle, tell her I sent you. read more

The crew here is amazing. Since the new ownership, I've really enjoyed playing here. You can tell they put time and money making your experience and good one. The people are friendly and the golf pro I met was very knowledgeable. Oh and tip your golf cart guy and bar cart girl! read more

Tremendous course, extremely challenging. They treat you like a high end Florida course, from bag drop off to cart return. Layout is wonderful, greens are huge and very fast. They require you to rent a cart which is something I wish they would change. Do have to be honest, the weekday starter is a real cranky guy. He treats members much different than non members. Would be nice if he learned some people skills. read more

Played this course a few times and it was always in good shape. Played here Saturday morning and it was in the worst shape I've ever seen a golf course. Basically unplayable unless you got lucky and found a good patch of grass on the fairway. Crab grass everywhere, weed growing out of the traps. Never heard of this course, but it is definitely one of the most unique courses on LI. Playing from the tips this course is only 6,300 yards but it is more difficult than some of the longer neighboring courses (Swan lake, Cherry Creek). Distance is secondary to accuracy here. The course is fairly tight and the greens are some of the most difficult on LI. You only want to be putting uphill here. The terrain is hilly and trees line the fairways. One big knock on the course right now is they can't sell alcohol! Must be a result of management change. So if you are trying to have a little extra fun this isn't the place. read more

What a pity...if I could give this course a zero I would. The conditions are pretty disgusting. The fairways are muddy and chopped up. The Greens are full of divots and dried out. The course views are beautiful but the golf course is run down and not maintained. They have some nerve charging full price. The only good I can say is the staff in the pro . shop and the starters are very nice. Otherwise this place is a dump . Don't waste your time and money. read more

Just not a huge fan of course. The course is never in quite the condition that most others are, the greens are sub-par and the overall course layout just isn't my favorite. The staff is always super nice and friendly but aside from that I don't have many great things to say. read more

Played 8/25/2019 after not playing Great Rock for a few years. Very disappointed. They really lost the course this year. Crab grass over took every fairway, bunkers were a disgrace, looks like they haven't dragged their traps in a while. There was a standing pool of water in the left bunker on hole 1 that just shows how they don't even maintain the course. Didn't see one maintenance/greenskeeper the entire day. Greens were like concrete. You actually were penalized for hitting the green on the approach because nothing would stick. They should be ashamed to charge $60 to play this course. To cap it all off, went to get some breakfast after the round only to be told they not longer have a restaurant. read more

This place is a disaster, they stole our $$& today. Tee boxes eaten up and filled with crab grass, fairways beat up with large patches of sand, greens in terrible condition throughout. Played here many times in the past and it was always pristine but no more. Stay away!!! Nooooo stars. read more

First, I am not an avid golfer and usually only go 5 to 6 times a year. This was the first time at Great Rock. I gave it 1 star because this could be a great course. First, The person signing us in could not have been any unfriendly then he was. I don't say you have to hang out the welcome mat, but at least have a smile and a hello. He had neither and I felt like he was doing us a favor by letting us paly there. I have never seen a course in such bad shape. The greens were like playing on cement, with 3/4 of them mostly brown and what appeared to be some kind of fungus. The fairways, when I hit them, were just the same. Don't have to worry about repalcing divots, as you wouldn't have been able to get a divot with a shovel. The sand traps? Unbelievable. Most of them had large quantities of cut grass piled up in them. Some had islands of weeds growing up through them. So, if you landed in a trap, good chance your ball would end up on some sort of grass. Most ball washers on the tees were either non existent or missing. The thing that got me, were these things didn't seem to be a recent problem, but a total neglect of the course.
