We…read morewere looking for a place that wasn't so far from home in Houston and stumbled upon the Poco loco Lodge in Port O'Connor Texas. This is a cute, kitchy, amazing little spice. While staying here, I felt like I was a guest in the owner's home. The rooms were bright and beautiful especially if you like bright colors, the decor was something I'd never seen before, and can't wait to see again. Each room has a little kitchenette, they stock the fridge with complementary beverages and the kitchen has complementary snacks. They had everything I needed to make my fishing trip more successful, a big old ice machine, a vacuum sealer if I needed it, And even a little guide book with great places to fish. The motel is pet friendly and you can drive right up to your room. I can't recommend this place enough!

While it is not a "Hilton", it looked freshly painted, there was carpet and ceramic tile. The shower wall was 'marble', the water was HOT, the beds were great (I have back problems so I'm picky), there was a mini fridge, a microwave and flat screen tv. The Patel's own it and were friendly and accommodating. There's an ice machine in the office. Pets are welcome. We loved it and are looking forward to coming back again soon.

Slips are well kept and in good shape and can fish off of if want to do some extra fishing after come in from a day in the water. Caught a few reds off the docks in evening. Have a few lights in the water to attract the bait fish. Will stay here again next time in town.

It turned out our paycheck wouldn't be deposited until the middle of our stay and he let us come anyway with the trust we would pay when we got it! The lady, Diedra(sp?) is exceptionally nice as well. Neither of them have any problem sitting down with you and talking about the history of this building, all in which is SO interesting to learn. Let it be paranormal, past guests, famous cowboys or just interesting people like WWII soldiers. This place treats you like family. Everyone is so nice, some people staying here seem like regulars so there's always a nice quiet talk going on outside on the porch or in the dining room... last night I actually heard guests out there playing an acoustic guitar and another singing along over the sounds of waves!! Yes. Waves!!! The Bay is right across the street... this would be a WONDERFUL place to bring the kids as there's two large, very nice, play areas within view of the front porch! A big pier next to those and what looks like a boat docking station on the other side. Just beautiful. Quiet. Relaxing!!! The rates are outstanding for what you get here. Sure, you could spend a little extra and get a nice fancy place somewhere else, but here you have serenity and the opportunity to take a walk back in time, unlike any place I have ever been! Our original room, RM101, was very old country style. The kitchen didn't have a stove so Jack loaned me a toaster oven! I was able to cook a fine meal for my boyfriend (chicken parmesan!) using that and a pan from home, I cooked noodles on the hot plate :). I walked around taking pictures when I came across Diedra cleaning rooms, she let me take a look at one that wasn't occupied and it was SO nice!! For an additional $20 a night Jack let us upgrade to that one. It has a full fridge, stove, oven, living room, bigger bed. GET THIS ROOM IF YOU HAVE KIDS. for 3 nights we're spending very little over $300. The ONLY thing I wish was different would be the breakfast. It consists of cereal, toast, coffee, milk and juice. This place would be set even if they just offered some premade biscuits and canned gravy! You can buy biscuits in bulk and big cans of gravy could be heated up in the microwave, so easily done. Just a suggestion :). Even bagels and cream cheese... I don't know. I want FOOD, LOL. This isn't a big enough deal breaker for me to take a star away for though. Love love love this place. I can't seem to express that enough. Highly recommend.

TLDR: great staff and facilities for family getaway with opportunity to launch boat or fish from…read morepier. We had never stayed at a KOA before. What a pleasant surprise! I wanted to bring our fishing boat to the coast to take the family fishing but knew the entire trip couldn't be entirely fish focused as the kids, 3 and 5, along with my wife were likely to be unsatisfied if we spent all weekend running around the bay. I saw this KOA had a pool, arcade, shuffle board, ping pong, narrow beach and splash pad for the kids. What excited me was that it also has a boat ramp and very nice fishing pier/day dock. I thought this might be the perfect compromise of kids activities and the chance to take the family fishing without the risk of boring everyone to death if the fish weren't biting and/or I was unsuccessful in finding 'em. lol. We decided to rent a cabin for the weekend and headed down from Austin. The Port Lavaca KOA delivered! The facilities and staff were fantastic. Kids especially loved the splash pad and arcade. The cabin was very well maintained, air conditioned and comfortable. We stayed in one that had a bunk bed for the kids and a full bed for adults. An observation deck extended above the cabin to allow panoramic views of the bay and surrounding area. There is a restaurant on site with pizza, wings and a few other items. Laundry and shop with ice, food, camping supplies and beer/wine were also on site. About 20 minutes away is "downtown" Port Lavaca with a surprisingly large number of restaurants, including a couple that were somewhat higher end. Per the recommendation of the KOA owner/manager, Missy, we had a fantastic dinner at Taiyo sushi to partially make up for the lack of fish we caught ourselves..... Boat ramp was suitable for a shallow water boat, canoes, kayaks. Given the depth of Vaes and Matagorda bay, a shallow water boat is what you need the navigate in the area anyway. A bow rider, ski boat or pontoon boat would probably not be launch able here. A huge thunderstorm had hit the day before we arrived. As a result, the boat ramp had some sand and shells washed up that made launching tricky. Rather than risk getting stuck, I asked the staff at the office if I could borrow a shovel to move the sand out of the way. Two staff members showed up within 15 minutes with shovels and helped clear the ramp. Told me they'd do it, but I had intended and insisted on helping. Before we departed, staff allowed us to use a hose to flush the boat motor (salt/brackish water here) snd spray undercarriage of the SUV. They even offered to pressure wash the boat! Definitely above and beyond. In short, we all had a blast and will definitely plan another visit.

They rented a RV spot and we rented the yurt. Then my granddaughter asked if she could stay with us! So I called the office (before office hours) and they happily moved us to an available cabin (the last one)! I called back a few minutes later wondering what site our kids were in. She told me and I was delighted that it was just 5 spots away from our cabin. The next day my son in law told us that the campground had called and asked if they wanted to move to the spot next to us!! Of course they did, and it's been just wonderful! So much here for the kids. Played shuffleboard this morning and connect four. Then went to the sand beach, floated in the water and made sandcastles. Windsurfing from the beach for my son-in-law. Also love the pool and splash pad! Snow cones at 3, I better get going!
