The view out the window was an industrial black hole of a mall roof at ground level (can you put something cute up there for all us window lookers), but if you only look up and out, the old church and architecture are still quite castle-like. Why do the windows not open. Protection against pirates and defenestration? Plenty of people prefer to have their air from outside and not piped in through layers of strangers people-dust. The Hotel Royer has been a popular choice for myself as of late whenever I am in town as it is a very solid option in terms of locale, price point and amenities. Whenever I walk in, I immediately notice two things. First off, the decor really brings together the theme of the hotel. I felt as if I was being taken back a few centuries to some royal kingdom, with portraits of historical figures, and furniture that is modern to the touch yet antiquated to the eyes. I also notice the smell, it is clean smelling and inviting. It certainly beats the musty cigarette smell you get at some places. The rooms in general are pretty good. The beds are comfortable, the lighting is decent and the space is typically pretty clean. The bathrooms are okay in my opinion (I am quite particular about this aspect). Sometimes the showers take a while to heat up and the toilet paper is pretty low quality. I think the weakest part of the rooms are the fact that some rooms do not have a desk. I think this is a big miss, as someone who visits on business a lot, it makes doing work in my room impossible sometimes. Additionally, the WiFi is super inconsistent, I found my devices being disconnected at will! In terms of amenities, I think the Hotel Royer is much better than the average Hilton. While there isn't the complimentary breakfast, they have their own restaurant, a well equipped gym and a pool. They also have a bar and their own banquet hall, for big events. The hotel is well located, in a walkable area and not too far from campus. Overall, I am a bit weary to select this hotel on future trips where business is important. However, if I am looking for a relaxing and quality stay, then I know the Hotel Royer will have me covered!

Traveling with little ones here is nice because they can offer a microwave in your room if requested. Made a big difference for us traveling with a young one. The gym is small but they do have a peloton bike among other equipment like free weights and other cardio equipment. Complimentary breakfast has warm savory options like egg burritos both with and without meat. They also offer oatmeal, fruit, yogurt and bagels with plenty of refreshments. Parking is free and easy to find. There's also a complimentary shuttle to take you to places on campus if you have no car. There are also bikes at the hotel to get around. Palace Events provided drapery, lighting and a chandelier, which created the perfect setting! Courtney was the coordinator we worked with and she was polite and very organized. She also was proactive in seeing an issue with the lighting and fixed it before I had to mention anything. In addition, we used their Standard Photo Booth and were so glad we did! My experience with the receptionist working behind the desk was nothing less than professional. Since my room was already booked through Hilton Honors, the only thing check-in consisted of was a verification of my information, a briefing of what the hotel offers, and giving me my room key. For your information check-in starts at 3:00 PM and ends at 12:00 AM! And check-out ends at 12:00 PM! I must say that the hallway felt never-ending as I walked down it to locate my room; and the carpet had the softest cushion like feel. After locating and entering the room, I said to myself "Oh my God" once I took notice of the kitchenet area which appeared so elegant! It came with a full-sized refrigerator, dishwasher, a sink, a built-in electric cooktop, plus cabinets that came with dishware, and pots & pans inside. Now the furniture in the room gave the room a homely like feel which made me anticipate my stay with Homewood Suites. It was those things that totally charmed me out of my panties, tehehe. There were liquid products by Gilchrist & Soames Zero% inside of the shower attached to the wall. Seems like hotels have completely dealt away with the mini shampoo, bath soap, and conditioner products that made really great travel hygiene additions. Along with those notable things inside of the room, it met my cleanliness standards. I had no issues whatsoever getting comfortable in the king-sized bed during my stay as my head was engulfed in-between the comfortable pillows. While utilizing the shower, I really enjoyed the water pressure; its soothing pressure made me feel very cleansed during each usage. It was wonderful toggling with the spray patterns, with the addictive feel of the pressure hitting the inside of my ear, tehehe. Other things the room came with that I noticed were an iron, ironing board, an extra comforter, and a few lamps with electrical outlets. And the Wi-Fi internet was easy to connect to and not once did I have any connectivity issues with it during my stay. Homewood Suites, as expected, appeared immaculately beautiful! Leave it to me to forget my bathing suit, hindering me from swimming in the pool onsite even though I knew about it as I booked the room. It was great having a fitness center onsite because I was in dire need of a workout. And I was impressed to see the number of dumbbell weights, decent looking workout machines, and even a peloton fitness bike within. Served from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM, it was a relief having the complimentary breakfast because I did not have to worry about finding a restaurant in the morning. And I was highly satisfied with the quality of what was presented. I would surely book with Homewood Suites by Hilton Champaign-Urbana again due to my experience with it because the hotel met my comfort needs, and I loved that its location is within an accessible distance of things of my interest in Champaign-Urbana. ~ Good vibes coming your way ~ Thomas G
