First room hadn't been cleaned. Next room, which we were stuck with, only had one king bed and our reservation was for 2 king beds. Outlets on the desk didn't work. Shower water handle wasn't secured and fell off. Outlet for the coffee pot was weak and afraid it was going to push into the wall plugging in the coffee pot. Overall, I was very diapointed with my stay, I came for work and the internet connection was so poor I was unable to work with my laptop (only 1 year old). I needed to go to Starbucks to have internet to be able to use my laptop for work. Also I explained I needed to laundry while I was there (lots) and while there were several machines, there was only One working Dryer and One working washer (Plus my room key never gave me access to the laundry room -as it should have-so I needed ask them to open it for me) The groud floor of the hotel was having reconstruction all the time with workers coming and going, while construction noise (during the day) prevented me from sleeping. The room design was off- the desk with the chair and lamp (clearly to setup my laptop) had No power connection to plug into. The place I would have need to sit with power was low and awkward (Assuming the Internet would work for me which it did Not). The staff were kind and the breakfast was reasonable. read more

Recently did an over night stay. Hotel is older definitely needs upgraded. Tub was dingy. Wash clothes were yellow. I personally wouldn't stay at this location for the price there are other hotels. Also there wasn't much by this location other than its right off the highway. read more

Enjoyed staying here. Sure, it's an older hotel but everyone's friendly and nice and the rooms are clean. I found them to mostly get high marks for hospitality. I did like that they were offering some take away breakfast items. Some places won't even give you that these days. Nice in the way a really well-maintained older hotel can be. Solid construction means less noise from the neighbors. No issues with the Wi-Five and plenty of hot water with good water pressure from the shower. You come to appreciate these lesser creature comforts when you travel as much as I do. Overall, happy happy happy. Some small misgivings and not worth mentioning. read more

Absolutely horrific experience that put my personal safety in jeopardy. I booked a reservation on September 1st directly through Hampton Inn's website (not through a 3rd party site) to stay at the Hampton Inn Grand Rapids South on September 21st because I was in town for a wedding. This is the fifth time in the past year that I've stayed at a Hampton Inn so I have been loyal to them as a customer. I realized while I was at the wedding that I would not check-in until after midnight so I called the front desk around 11:40 pm to let them know about my late check-in. They told me there was an "issue" but they were checking on it and that it "wasn't related" to me. They suggested I "check back". I reiterated I had a reservation and had made it three weeks in advance. On the phone they wouldn't tell me what the issue was or that they didn't have a room for me. Had they been honest on the phone I might have been able to find family at the wedding who could have helped me with another place. When I arrived at the hotel (around 1 am) they finally told me they didn't have a room for me and didn't know why or what happened to it. Obviously they greedily overbooked the hotel to take advantage of premium pricing during Art Prize. I am a woman that was traveling by myself and it was 1 am in the morning (and too late for me to call anyone I knew in the area). All they did was apologize without offering any choice of alternative hotel accommodation. They said they might be able to make some calls once they were no longer "busy doing other things". After sitting in the lobby for 20 minutes while the night desk staff did nothing to improve the situation I walked out to begin driving 2 1/2 hours home. Effectively they put me out on the street in the middle of the night. Around 3 am I wound up being the first car behind a crash that closed the entire EB I-96 freeway. It's almost 5 am and I am finally home, but I felt that the hotel valued profits over honoring my reservation and it almost cost me my life tonight. I will never stay with Hampton Inn again. Especially if you are a woman traveling alone - STAY AWAY. Update: To add insult to injury I woke up this morning to a "late cancellation" email stating that because of my cancellation I may incur charges. I pleaded for a hotel room last night. Front desk couldn't even bother to find an alternative hotel for me. And now this email? Called front desk again this morning only to be told that no manager was available to speak with until Monday. Nice hotel, reasonable priced, centrally located. I had a small crisis where I needed milk for my small toddler after unexpectedly running out. There wasn't any for purchase and it looked like the complimentary breakfast area was closed. I approached the breakfast attendant who kindly and emphatically understand the situation and graciously handed me some milk until I could purchase more elsewhere. When searching for a hotel with no bedbugs, this was the only one available in the area. When booking the room (double queen), the hotel staff told us that they keep the room regardless of check in time (as we knew it would be late) as long as we book through the hotel and not thru a third party. So that's what we did. On the day of our arrival to the city, we called early to make sure the room was still available and to let them know we would be there late (11pm) and we were told there was 'no problem'. When we arrived, we woke up the person in the back area (he came out looking disheveled, messed hair, rubbing eyes) who then let us in. He told us the room was given away. We explained that we were told that would not happen and that we had called earlier being told there was no problem. He simply told us not to shoot the messenger. He offered a room with one bed and a couch or one bed and a cot. We were so disgusted but also very tired after such a long day. He called one other hotel but there was nothing available. We elected to just stay in the room with one bed (not an "upgrade") as he called it. And after trying to increase the price I demanded the same rate as we had originally booked. *even that was too much for our discomfort. He told us we could get the appropriate room the next day. The next day we were out again until about 11pm (hosting a party) but no one from the hotel called, texted, or emailed about our room. Do not book there unless you are willing to pay an enormous amount of money for less than satisfactory accommodation and a hit or miss on whether or not your room will be given away even after being 'promised' to you. I will be returning to this conveniently located Hampton Inn in the near future. It is within a short distance of almost anything in GR. The rooms were clean!!! Not only was the hottub not working, the pool was freezing cold. We found another hotel nearby, packed everything and everybody up, and checked out. Why in the world would you not get your hot tub and pool fixed? Just close the doors if you are not going to maintain your facility. read more

I got an $80 weekday rate with AAA and though the furniture is older for a Hampton these days, this was a deal. I also got a free upgrade to a jacuzzi room (I'm an HHonors member). The location is convenient--right off the exit and near plenty of places to eat, even if they weren't very interesting. There's a Target across the street too if you need, well, anything. The front desk staff was friendly and gracious with their time to explain places to eat downtown that would be interesting and unique to Grand Rapids. I opted not to travel down there, but appreciated the verbal tour, at least. Nothing special, but as far as value goes, I would say this is a good one to look up. read more

This Hampton Inn is located right off M 131 and Wyoming road. From the outside it doesn't look like much but inside they have updated it! Upon checking in, the hosts gave us two popcorns since I am a Gold member of Hilton Honors. The lobby is fresh and clean! The rooms have been updated too! We stayed in a double queen bedroom with lcd tv, Ac and personal bath. Comfy beds and cool in the room since it was so hot outside. The shower was good with no odd surprises. They even had a bright night light and a sliding door! The kids love that! The breakfast was dynamite too! We liked the omelettes, the muffins, waffles, and of course the fruit loop cereal! The pool was a little too warm and the hot tub was decent. This is a great place to stay when visiting Grand Rapids. We will return! read more

I give this hotel four stars because I really don't give out five. I've been here for four days and I'm very please with the room and the service. It's really cool to have a designated USB ports so I can plug my iPhone or my tablet without having to use a regular plug. But keep in mind they are upgrading the entire hotel the last floor which is the first floor is the only one they're still in the process of updating. The staff has been super nice and very very courteous. Very happy with my stay. read more

I've stayed at most of the Hilton properties in Grand Rapids - Hamptons, HGIs, etc. This used to be one of the most "worn" properties. They've been remodeling, and still are, but it is going from shappy to chic. It's worth a stay, and I'll be back - good value, pleasant surroundings...good job. read more

The room we stayed in had an extremely loud air conditioner that kept me up most of the night. The bed was also very hard, and much less comfortable than other Hampton beds I've stayed in. The shower had very poor pressure. The room didn't include as many toiletries as Hampton Inn's usually do. The facility outside the room was not well air conditioned. I felt almost sweaty eating breakfast and going to and from my room (and I don't sweat much). Breakfast was hot and okay. Staff were kind of friendly, but didn't prompt for our rewards account as usual, so we forgot...and didn't get our usual snacks and perks. read more

Hampton Inn is one of my favorites. In many aspects, this hotel meets my expectation. Only issue is that is having some renovations done. It's nearing the end - don't have trim an drywall dust everywhere. Rooms are the norm, but charging stations all over the place. I had all my gear plugged in. Reserved a king with sofa when I arrived at 10:00 pm I was told the room was not cleaned yet, I could wait or I can have a room with 2 queen beds and no sofa. You would think after making a reservation hours before your 10 pm arrival the room would be ready, no. The door would not latch when closed unless you push it closed to latch, I had to slam the door several times. Very clean, soft linens, outlets all over lamps and dresser. One ply bathroom tissue, really? For the price of this room one should not skimp on that $174.00 God get me back to Texas where La Quinta #laquinta makes me happy and goes above and more for the guests, and has 2 ply. After a long flight and driving through Michigan we chose this hotel thinking as a Hilton property we would be happy and safe. We walked into a room which hadn't been vacuumed, had hair all over the comforters which were white yet looked filthy, turned the sheets down to more hair and mascara and makeup on the pillowcases. The bathroom floor was covered in hair and the base boards were filthy. The room hadn't been cleaned, the sheets weren't new. I was outraged. I sent my husband to the desk and he came back with keys to another room across the hall, we walked in it appeared to be cleaner, my son turned the covers down on the bed and yelled mom a bug it's bed bugs, I thought he was kidding. Sure enough bed bugs. In a panic with my 3 small children all our luggage for a 2 week trip I had to run out of the room in fright and horror and completely exhausted. When I tell the person at the front desk and show him the pictures he says yep, sorry about that. While he was apologetic, he wasn't surprised and wasn't shocked, obviously knew about the problem. It's been over a week and I'm covered in bites. They must have been everywhere.All I got was my money refunded 3 days later. Shame on you, I trusted your hotel because of the name you stand behind and what a let down. Absolutely horrific. read more

Hampton Inn is somewhere I stay often when on business. I've stayed here before at this location. However, this time was a bit different. When I checked in, I wasn't told the hotel was under renovation (really needed). At $140, this is pricier than other Hampton Inns, especially with my pre-pay and Hilton Honors Membership. However, the room was clean, and had the best new invention: a charging station! This allows me to not have to move my nightstand to plug in my tablet, phone, and whatever other electronics I might have brought. Free Internet, quick. Quiet, even though it's near the freeway. Breakfast could be better. On this particular visit, the best part was sitting at breakfast and hearing some suit complain that he was checking out early because "something unsavory was going on in the room next to him, all night long.". Suit? It's a H-O-T-E-L. Overall, ok, but next time please tell me the hotel is under renovations so I don't feel like Norman Bates is going to jump out of the hallways strewn with floor trim and pictures/mirrors off the walls. It was kind of creepy. But again, my room was ok and very clean. read more
