i decided i needed a quick getaway over on this side of the mitten. was really looking forward to this. anyways.. i got my room key & rode the elevator up to my room. this room's pullout couch had what appeared to be a white substance (leftover children?)... i was horrified. then i turned around & the walls were worn down so much it looked like our walls when grandpa ate our walls last thanksgiving eve. the walls are worn down to metal!!!! and don't even get me started with the mariot station on the tv. what is that?! next time i'll be better off sleeping in one of the storage units in the parking lot.

    Found in bed. Pretzel

Ok, first thing that upset me was driving in circles trying to find the entrance to this place. The hotel is set off the main highway and you drive through the Olive Garden. They have the worlds smallest sign by the road. So small I could not read Fairfield until I exited my car to take the picture. Hey Marriott??? Put a sign up a human can read. I love Fairfield brand and beds with great pillows. That is why I stay here. But After reading some past reviews of bugs in bed I decided I will inspect my bed before going to sleep. I was in room 333 corner room with two Queen beds. I pull back the covers to look closely. Pillows and head area look find. Then as I pull back more I find a piece of a pretzel in the bed, along with some hairs and other items I could not identify. Nothing crawling but I moved on to the other bed. 2nd bed looked fine. So I write this off as bad housekeeping. Someone was in that bed and sheets never changed. Never thought I would see that in a Marriott chain hotel.

I had a really nice time during my one night stay here. The decor is very new and modern with bright colors and the staff was very attentive and nice. The king suite was not as big as embassy suites, but larger then say a comfort inn. When I checked in they said they needed to charge an extra $20 and with a debit card it take a little longer to get that back after our stay. I was unaware - and not prepared so offered to pay the 20 in cash. They accommodated me and ended up not making me pay that at all which was convenient. They allowed me to check in early - and the bed was comfortable! They also call when you get up and ask if everything is okay, which is a true five star must! So great job! Will return!

I am a Marriott/SPG Elite member and was hoping this was a renovated, clean hotel based on photos. Unfortunately it's a bit old and out dated. Lobby is nice but rooms are not. I also found a bug in my room which is never a good sign... checked out after I found the 2nd one in bed. I would suggest some updates to rooms (carpet, linens, curtains) and insect control.

This is a report from Ecolab showing no signs of bed bugs during our stay in room 103 on 7/28/16
    Shannon S.

Regarding Bed Bugs: I stayed in room 103 the night of July 28th. The next morning I woke up, and found some bites around my ankles. I had been out the night before in sandals, so they must have been mosquito bites that I hadn't noticed until the next morning. I am positive my stay at Fairfield Inn and Suites in Grand Rapids was free of bed bugs. Once I returned home, Friday evening, I saw the yelp review from a 6/2/16 showing the room on the third floor had had bed bugs. This made me really nervous, as at this point I wasn't sure where my bites had come from. I called the Marriot customer service line, explained my concerns, and they put me in touch with a supervisor at their corporate offices who assured me they took bed bugs seriously. The corporate office explained that they hold their franchises, such as this Fairfield Inn, to the same standards as any Marriot and that they would ensure proper resolve if bed bugs were found. As soon as I told the Fairfield Inn I had stayed at that I suspected bed bugs, they shut down the room I had stayed in until a full investigation was done to show the room was clear. On the following Monday, I got a call from Joe H., the General Manager. I can assure you he is as thorough with customer concerns in-person as he is in responding to yelpers online. He explained to me that they had Ecolab come out immediately after bed bugs were found on the third floor in late-May/early-June. He explained that once they find bed bugs, Ecolab treats the room, the rooms next to it, and rooms on the floor below. They also come back (I think he said once a month) periodically to inspect other areas of the hotel to ensure that no bugs have spread to new areas of the hotel. In our case, Ecolab came out Monday, and I was told they were conducting a two-fold inspection with dogs (?) and by checking for a chemical released by the bugs. Joe and his maintenance team also did their own preliminary check for signs of bugs. I have attached in the photos an image of the Ecolab report. It's not written very clearly, the report indicates that absolutely NO BED BUGS were found. Yay! I appreciated that Joe took my concerns seriously enough to shut down the room for 3 days, bring in Ecolab, and because of the stress of the whole ordeal (including some other extraneous customer service issues that had ensued) he even refunded the room for us. I have mixed feelings about causing a false alarm, but the best thing I can do in this situation is to share with you that this General Manager is clearly in-control of the situation, that you can rest assured that this room is proven to be clear, and that this hotel is active in ensuring a comfortable, bed-bug free stay. Bed bugs are scary. Joe validated that, and was professional and expedient in alleviating my concerns. Thank you, Joe!

First off, a big shout-out to "Brett" at the front desk - I'd called ahead for a late arrival - and he very efficiently checked me in with an entire lobby filled with youth baseball players and their parents! My room was so immaculate - I had flashbacks to my early teens - back to when my dear Mother would spotlessly clean my bedroom. My accommodations at The Hampton were extremely spacious (much bigger than my room growing-up, that's for sure) and the walk-in shower was huge! The complimentary breakfast the next morning was ample and delicious - a great start to my next 100 miles of driving. Update to my previous review …read more... My third time staying here to visit sick family and each experience has been easy and wonderful! Thank you. Wonderful experience! From start to finish I had a great experience and it's in large part due to Parker, a front desk employee. He/him is professional and friendly and upbeat, a joy to interact with and very helpful. I have been coming to Grand Rapids from the Cincinnati area for the past three weeks and will be doing so for the unforeseeable future... I am in town to visit a sick family member and it's all very difficult so to walk into a hotel and to be greeted with genuine enthusiasm and kindness is everything in that moment. I went to my room with a smile after spending a day in tears... truly thank you for having such wonderful employees. Okay, as far as the hotel is concerned... loved my room and the shower was amazing! They had shampoo and condition and body soap on the wall full of decent products.... I had forgotten body soap and hate bars so I was very thankful for the body soap! Everything was just easy..... I am an early morning person so I was heading to the hospital early each day and completely forgot they have a free breakfast... family member's that had the breakfast said it was great- cousin grabbed oatmeal and berries I think she said each morning on the way to hospital.... Finally, one of the nights I was in the lobby with a cousin waiting for another family member and when we were all ready to leave for dinner I neglected to grab my purse from the chair.... So after about 30 minutes I realized it and was devastated, assuming it was gone for good...I started thinking about all my losses and the credit cards numbers I'd have to call and then I called Parker. He/him found my purse and we came and got it.... Again, such a wonderful and kind exchange. I had a big bag of Costco chocolates in my car I promised her and on my drive home I saw them in my rear view mirror-- Parker- they are headed your way next week... and genuinely, thank you for your amazing and kind service!

One downside was that the air conditioner was extremely loud, making it difficult to get a good night's sleep. I also discovered that while my room door locked, the deadbolt wasn't functioning, which was a safety concern. The hotel restaurant was okay, but I was disappointed that they weren't offering happy hour despite having signs advertising it. On the plus side, there are several bars and restaurants within walking distance, which made it easy to explore the area. We even stumbled upon a nearby concert while out walking, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. Overall, it was a decent stay with a few issues that, if addressed, would make the experience much better.

This is such a lovely hotel!…read more The only downside is that it was extremely busy, but we did come on a nice spring weekend in March to a busy area. There was a scrapbooking convention and a few sports teams, but I found that the accommodations were pretty quiet on the sixth floor. The host was able to change our room to a room that had not had a dog in it for over a month due to severe allergies (anaphylactic). The kickback meals were huge and delicious, and they had allergy friendly options for both of breakfast and the dinner for my big Allergy baby. There was a small fridge in the room that worked so well it froze a lot of our supplemental food we brought for those of us with allergies. The room was clean. We had laundry on our floor, which was incredibly helpful when my baby product exposed to an allergen. The front desk was able to take the cache I had and give me quarters for the machines. They had speed queen machines, which were efficient, but they definitely could've used a little bit of a cleaning. I didn't expect a lot since it was a hotel, laundry room but I was pleasantly surprised. If you don't have any allergies staying at a brewery, can save you so much money with all of the food choices. This is one of the best ones I've ever seen, and all of the staff was kind helpful, and communicated very well. Unfortunately, we didn't do the pool much just because of how packed and insane it was... the weight room could've definitely used a little spruce up. There were only three treadmills a recumbent bike and dumbbells up to 35 pounds. I was still able to get an OK workout in with the dumbbells, but a mat and inflating the ball would really go a long way. This hotel is an excellent area close to a target/Starbucks a Meijer 5 to 10 minutes from Cascades Park, which was perfect for my kids to get a little energy out after our travel day. There's also a Costco across the street which we are planning on refilling it before we leave.
