This hotel is located in busy area in Grand Rapids. Overall, it was a good stay. It was well kept and clean. It has a Starbucks inside the building. The hallways are a little bit on the dark side and kind of difficult to see at some point. Parking was easy and convenient attached to the hotel. Walking distance to many convenient locations.

Great room, great service and super convenient if you are coming to Grand Rapids to see an event at Van Andel. They have a sky bridge that takes you directly to the arena without being impacted by bad weather. We stay here every time we come back to GR. Love this place.

Come here for one night stay, just to get out of the house and get to see some Christmas decoration. Love the hotel and its location, especially during Christmas. We were checked in to room on 18th floor, love high floor as always! The room is nice, the front desk agent checked in us very efficiently too. He also offered to take photo for three of us in front of the Christmas tree which I really appreciate. Some minor things that I see in the room which need a bit more attention: 2 pieces of tape on the wall?!, a hair strand in the sink. Wish window is a bit cleaner because the view is so beautiful but with winter is here, that one is understandable. We have a lovely stay and can't wait to be back.

Overall: A decent JW that is showing its age definitely needs a renovation. And service was hit and miss. Arrival: arrived by taxi from the airport. Doormen ignored us completely. Check in: Younger Asian woman who was just doing the minimum. Struggled to pull up our reservation and then claimed the reservation was only for 1 night. I had to show her the printed confirmation showing 4 nights before she "found" the remaining nights in the system. Also, no concept of acknowledging status and no offer of bonus points or gift... Room: We had tried to use suite night upgrades but our request was not accepted. We asked for an upgraded room, and received a nice corner room 2204. Large, panoramic windows overlooking the Grand River. Carpet was stained, some walls had stains, furniture was old. Standard items in room- king size bed, mini-refrigerator, Keurig coffee maker, mid-sized LG TV, side chair, chaise lounge. In room safe was malfunctioning, constantly beeping. Had to call maintenance, and all he could do was silence the safe by taking out the internal batteries. Bed: Mediocre worn bed, flattened pillows, middle of the road linens. Bathroom: Horrible lighting but nice soaking tub with separate shower. Concierge lounge: Amazingly even during the COVID-19 pandemic, the lounge was serving evening hors d'oeuvres but wit zero social distancing and crowded. Was too dangerous from a COVID-19 perspective for us to take advantage of the evening snacks. Lounge provided free water and sodas. In the mornings, we visited the lounge for coffee, and we noticed it was not well cared for. Leftovers from the night before were strewn about, trash not emptied, coffee machine out of milk... Restaurants on site: (1) Little French place in the lobby (see separate review of Margaux). $20 voucher for breakfast if you have status. Nearly all breakfast items are at $20 on the menu. (2) Starbucks. Overall service: appeared short-staffed and personnel were a bit stressed and not providing normal levels of service for a JW Marriott. Gym and pool: Very small gym and pool. Steam room is broken and being eliminated. Tips and other info: This JW is located centrally in downtown Grand Rapids. (1) Uber/Taxi from the airport runs $40-55. (2) There's a little basement liquor store across the street (cash only). (3) Plenty of restaurants within walking distance. (4) DeVoss concert hall is an easy walk if you want to take in a performance. If you do, go to the will call window to purchase tickets without Ticketmaster processing fees. We enjoyed a nice symphony and tickets were only $18 per person purchased directly at the window. About my review: I base my reviews on actual experience not what could be. And I base my reviews on having travelled extensively having seen the spectrum from superb to dismal.

We ended our road trip around Lake Michigan and enjoyed our time at the JW Marriott. As a platinum member, we were greeted with 1k bonus Bonvoy points, waived parking fees, access to the lounge, early check-in and upgraded room to a river view. If you are a Bonvoy member, call ahead and see if they have any upgrades available. Breakfast buffet at the restaurant was delicious and accommodating to our family's needs. Unlimited refreshments, coffee beverages, appetizers, desserts in the lounge during schedules times. Main lobby has plenty of lounge space and the design and architecture of the room makes you feel like you are truly in unique boutique hotel. Lounge is spacious and allows for a quiet workspace or a cocktail with a gorgeous view. Staff were extremely friendly and felt like we were accommodated in every way. Highly recommend this hotel for work or leisure if you want to experience this small city.

I love this hotel it's super classy. The restaurant inside is yummy and has a great breakfast bar in the morning. Love the ambiance. I also really like the executive lounge was lovely to work remotely in it. Had access to snacks, appetizers, desserts etc. Great experience overall and beautiful views.

Nice JW Marriott, they keep it clean, well maintained, offer comfortable bed, nice water view, and a short walk to everything around here. As good as you can get for a hotel in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Nice Margaux French restaurant down in the lobby too. They got a nice gym as well. It's a good hotel for hosting a corporate event or special occasion.

There are several treadmills, a few ellipticals (my favorite), a whole area dedicated to free weights, and lots of other equipment. The fitness center is a rectangular glass box that faces both the pickleball courts and the pool, so you get an interesting view no matter where you're working out. Yes, this hotel has pickleball courts. It's $35 per hour to book a court. When we were there, there were Pickleball Players with a capital P tearing up the courts, so I'm thinking this isn't a place to bring your toddler to throw balls. These pickleball courts are for people who want to really play. Our hotel room was just fine. It was a little small for a two-queen-bed room, and the window faced the back of another building. But it was clean, and the shower worked, and the beds were comfy. One thing that I love is that housekeeping will automatically refresh your room, and you don't even have to beg. The hotel is huge, and there were a couple of big conferences going on while we were there, so there were lots of people milling about, but it never felt overly crowded. The first floor of the hotel feels like an indoor mall: there's a coffee shop, two restaurants, a wine shop and a gift shop. If you go up to the 27th floor, you'll find MDRD, a modern Spanish restaurant with a rooftop bar that overlooks the Grand River. This is not the place to take kids -- this feels like an adult-only space. They also have a dress code: smart casual. The adults in our party enjoyed a couple of drinks (wine and beer and bourbon) at the bar, and it was cool to just sit and watch the traffic on the Grand River bridge crawl by like ants. Parking is valet or a parking garage that's around the corner. I try to avoid valet when I can, for personal reasons, so we did self-park, which was no big deal.

I booked a room with (what I thought was) 2 queen beds for a stay with my mom. To our surprise, it actually had two bedrooms, one with 2 full beds and another with a single queen or king. Both had en suite bathrooms. Both had TVs. Plus we had our living/dining shared space. I needed to spend a bit of time during our stay working, and WiFi was strong and worked well in our room. Breakfast was better than expected, with a small hot foods bar, breads/bagels, fruit, yogurt, and lots of toppings and sauces (think jams, jellies, salsa, hot sauce, jalapeño slices, pickled red onion, etc). Simple selection of coffee, tea, and juice as well. Definitely did the trick. AC unit was on the louder side, and view out the window was a little odd (directly floor level with what seemed like an interior carpeted court? we were on 3rd level). But the plus side of this was no street noise in our room. Parking's a little on the expensive side, $38 per day in the adjacent public parking garage. It is nice to park directly in front of the hotel entrance though (3rd floor). This hotel was conveniently located, easy to find getting off the freeway and very walkable to shops, restaurants, etc. With the Hilton app, I was able to check in and check out on my phone, and use the app to use the elevators and unlock our room door.

Inconvenient when there's two people taking an Inconvenient when there's two people taking a shower. Also the showerhead and the position of the door was not in a good position. It would be better if the door was by the showerhead so you could open the door turn on the shower to get warm. I'd actually get sprayed every time because I had to step into the shower to reach the water. Also, in the lobby, most hotels have coffee available for their guests. There was an empty counter near the elevators that would be perfect. Sometimes it's just nice to offer free coffee to your guests that tastes better than the pods in the room. Many things need to be updated in this hotel; Newer smart TVs (only offers Netflix, Pandora and YouTube for streaming, remotes are cheap impossible to use, needs USB ports, and, toilet paper is cheap and thin, better linens needed, and better upkeep of in-room refrigerators (defrost the iceberg occasionally) so the fridge cools like it's suppose to. Some great perks; the restaurant, otherwise known as the "Bistro" has amazing staff and great food. Limited menu makes it always hot, fresh and enjoyable and then there's a staff nothing can be beat with crew. Deja is their hidden gem. This young lady deserves a promotion and possibly a different position/career path or position where her sparkling attitude, professionalism and strengths can be utilized to make any business shine! The pool is gorgeous and clean. Ensure to contact the hotel directly to ensure amenities are open & functional. As Bonvoy website, app, & other sites may not be updated appropriately The Marriott Courtyard lobby is clean and inviting. The front desk "seems" to attempt their best to accommodate and provide excellent service. I did over hear the front desk young lady call me "crazy". But, I'm okay with that - after all, who isn't? We stayed in the executive king suite on the 7th floor, was spacious & clean. Gorgeous view to the west. Housekeeping did an excellent job - going above & beyond our requests of extra linens, pillows, blankets & setting up our roll-away I can not emphasize enough to confirm with phone calls to the front desk because the Bonvoy website/app is not always accurate of what amenities, parking, promotions, and packages actually include. All can be quite confusing to someone who has not visited this hotel. Previously been in the industry for 20+ years. I see this as an opportunity for them to nickel and dime you to death. The Bonvoy website & app allows you to select 2 adults & 2 children (17 & under) for a room - yet, selecting the breakfast "package" only includes 2 adults & 2 kids (12 & under) .... My number one choice will always be the JW Marriot for a downtown GR hotel! Location is great, price is the same, the service is always above and beyond, and you never have to doubt the quality of the linens lol @Kylene G - it's spelled Melisa , not Melissa ** also, watch pending vs actual charges for your final cost - upon checkin there was a $45 per night (odd amount) deposit required .... There was a scrapbooking convention and a few sports teams, but I found that the accommodations were pretty quiet on the sixth floor. The kickback meals were huge and delicious, and they had allergy friendly options for both of breakfast and the dinner for my big Allergy baby. There was a small fridge in the room that worked so well it froze a lot of our supplemental food we brought for those of us with allergies. The room was clean. We had laundry on our floor, which was incredibly helpful when my baby product exposed to an allergen. The front desk was able to take the cache I had and give me quarters for the machines. They had speed queen machines, which were efficient, but they definitely could've used a little bit of a cleaning. I didn't expect a lot since it was a hotel, laundry room but I was pleasantly surprised. If you don't have any allergies staying at a brewery, can save you so much money with all of the food choices. This is one of the best ones I've ever seen, and all of the staff was kind helpful, and communicated very well. Unfortunately, we didn't do the pool much just because of how packed and insane it was... the weight room could've definitely used a little spruce up. But they are plugs not direct USB connections. Again older hotel I think. The breakfast was good. Pancakes, eggs, potatoes, sausage, oatmeal, waffles, a definite variety. The happy hour dinner is also decent. We really did not partake. But went to the happy hour 1 night and got our drinks. They were good and the bartender super nice. There were lots of family's eating. It was nice but they were mostly pigs and didn't clean up after themselves and left a giant mess. Not hotels fault.
