I never check Hampton ratings before staying at one. Huge mistake. Check in was very slow. Front desk computers out (apparently a usual thing here). She had to walk back and forth to the back office. Then she walked upstairs to check to see if my room was ready (yes there was a line of customers). She was aloof too. Zero greetings or communication about my stay. Elevator out. Read it's been out for weeks. Hall carpet nasty looking. Room furniture dated but functional. TV too. Bathroom OK, except sink drains very slowly. Ice bucket had no liner and was damp. Bed OK but more pillows needed for a king bed. Pulled the last Kleenex out of box. Looked and there was that usual bundle still at the bottom of the box, rolled up. But, tissues were white before and bundle below was blue? Never heard of that before. Hmmmm... It was quiet but I noticed people nearby were also older single guys on work stays like me. I only gave it a 2 as breakfast was decent. Afterwards, noted no email receipt. Checked Hilton Honors account. Said late cancellation! No. I was there. Already sent them a message on that. Even told them my room number. No receipt, so I might not get reimbursed now. Argh. I cannot believe Hilton allows their good name to be associated with this location. Nearly total fail. This is definitely not one of the nicer Hamptons. Ihave stayed in. I travel a ton for work. I stay in Hamptons about 75% of the time. They are typically well kept, clean and are stocked with modern amenities. This is NOT that. The digital keys don't work meaning you have to do a traditional check-in with a nice 15 minute wait while they play musical keys to try to get anything to work. The carpet looks like it needs ripped out. It's overall just dingy and a bit worn out. There are no USB plugs for devices. I am not sure why but I was charged over $200 a night. Online it said I could book for 168. And I am a Hilton Goldmember. So much for a discount. If you're thinking of staying here/ keep driving! read more

Aug. 6th, around 10pm. Got here late after driving all day from Rapid City South Dakota to Oshkosh Wisconsin then here. Guy at desk acted if I was a bother. I then asked if I could get a bottled water, he started to charge me and I asked if it was complementary because I have always received a bottle of water or two at every single Hilton property as a Silver member but now I am a Gold member. He proceeded to tell me that only Diamond members get free water when they check in, but he will hook me up and give me one for free. lol as if I don't know. I stay in hotels three days a week because I travel a lot, and everybody in my industry does too. Every Hilton property in this town that I have stayed at has been really nice to me. You would think that this place that is in serious need of a remodel would at least kill me with customer service, but the dirty place matches the dirty attitude completely. Breakfast was great and morning staff was cool though... but that night guy needed an attitude check. read more

Simple, cozy, style reminds me of the times I was in hotels when I was a kid. Some items have been modernized, there is a peloton bike in their complimentary gym. Pet/dog friendly (but costs 50 extra). There is also a pool, but don't expect anything extravagant here. It is good for the price and those looking for a place to stay. Lots of restaurants just off of the main road. read more

Overall, my stay was pleasant. The check in was easy and quick. The staff was very friendly. The location is "okay", right off the highway with a few restaurants in the area. The only issue I had with the hotel is the parking and the quality of the rooms. The parking is way too small, there are not enough spots. The quality of the rooms is far below my standards. They are very outdated, dark, and there is very little privacy. In terms of sound, you can hear everything. If you can get a cheap room, it's worth the stay. read more

Fragrance Sensitivity Warning: Room smelled like perfume due the cleaning products they use. Fortunately we were able to move to another room where the scent was faint. Also, they don't leave info in the room about restaurants that deliver to Hampton Inn so you have to go to the lobby to get a photo-copied sheet. The sheet lists a couple places that are permanently closed. It also shows some nearby restaurants as delivery but some of them you had to order through DoorDash, Uber Eats, or Grubhub. read more

I don't usually review hotels - but wanted to write a brief review for this particular Hampton Inn because the staff could not have been friendlier. Seriously. Above and beyond Disney-Level service. Family and I needed an overnight - late arrival, early departure, and the Hampton was a reasonably priced option. I'm Hilton-Loyal so that made me happy too. Nice hotel, typical Hampton Inn. But the staff is truly a different level. Kudos to the training team or manager or whoever it is that makes that culture stick - it's not easy to do, and it's working. read more

Great two night stay at the Hampton Inn. Excellent staff. Probably the best breakfast of any of the Hampton properties. Linda REALLY takes great care of the guests at the breakfast buffet. I am a Californian and was impressed by the quality of the fresh fruit they served. Hotel is just a stones throw away from I-65, so if you can, get a room on the West side of the property. Otherwise, the highway noise is a bit intrusive. WiFi is free if you join Hilton Honors. (which is free to join) Plenty of decent restaurants near by. Rooms have a microwave and a fridge. Super comfortable bed. I have family in NW Indiana and the Hampton will be my go-to hotel when I am in the region. read more

I have stayed here 50+ nights in the last 10 years and I am sure I did a review but since Yelpnid saying I didn't, here goes. This is a decent Hampton is with a clean pool and modest workout area. It is probably 15 to 20 years old but still in good condition. The beds are comfy and the room was clean but the tv was smaller than what I'm used to (32"?) and the breakfast area is a little cramped. The breakfast here is free (WiFi too) and it is average. The omelette's they serve aren't my favorite and neither is the sausage but the scrambled eggs and bacon are good when they have those. There are muffins, bagels and breads too. Overall, this is one of the better hotels in Merrillville and I happened to have a mind blowing low rate off Priceline so I couldn't pass it up. I'll stay here again when the deal is right. Very friendly, enthusiastic, and accommodating staff both at late-night check-in and check-out the next day! We checked in well after midnight, and the hotel gave us a very generous late check-out so we could get a chance to recharge and not feel rushed out in the morning. The room was perfect--clean, comfy, and quiet. The breakfast blew me away. I'm used to bland scrambled eggs (that don't even look or taste like actual eggs) as the main entree, but here they had mini omelettes, sausage (good sausage, not those typical hotel sausage patties), and French toast. Also fresh cut fruit/melons and these mango Greek yogurt smoothies which were amazing. After my first serving, I went up again and got everything a second time, it was so good! read more

I really enjoyed my stay at Hampton Inn in Merrillville. Two things impressed me the most: 1) all the front desk staff were real nice and friendly. Lisa, Rachel and Jason were the main hotel staff with whom I interacted on different days/nights during my stay. They were all very thoughtful, efficient and accommodating. 2) beds were comfortable, and pillows, sheets and towels all looked very clean. The hotel is also conveniently located - close to restaurants, grocery stores, Walmart, Target, Costco, shopping malls - highly recommended! read more

This hotel goes out of its way to make you happy and comfortable. After a long day in Chicago we were ready to call it a night and this hotel was amazing! I loved the coffee bar that was available 24/7. It had coffee, teas, and hot chocolate. The breakfast was amazing and satisfying. Will stay there again while traveling through. read more

Just stayed at this location. Very clean. Excellent management. Frequently stay in Hampton for business and travel sports. Most hotels are ok acceptable. This location - eating area well kept. Coffee fresh and well stocked. Bathrooms very clean. Had an issue with loud and unruly kids running wild late night and management handled nicely - above and beyond. Much appreciated. You could see from the cleanliness of common areas - pool / lobby that this is a very well run location. Not often pleasantly surprised when traveling but this was a very pleasant and accommodating experience. read more

I frequently stay at Hampton Inn for business. The staff at this facility are very professional and kind. It is clear that this Hampton has been remodeled. Common rooms are clean and updated. While I am usually impressed with the size and look of the rooms, these feel a bit cramped. Some nonsmoking rooms still smell as if smoking is allowed. I'm not sure this really is a Hampton Inn or whether they stole a sign and are trying to pull off an impersonation. We stayed for 7 nights- I know I could have moved to a different hotel and probably should have. 1. The sheets didn't exactly fit the king bed. So by 1:00 or so in the morning the fitted sheet and mattress cover came off the top corners exposing the bare mattress. Every night, I felt like a burrito. I would wake up and stretch it back down just to have it come off again in a few hours. My husband was doing the same thing on his side too. 2. The dining room experience. The first time I went down for breakfast, every table was dirty. There were no guests around but there was an employee (the night shift clerk) sitting at one of the tables talking to the breakfast service employee. Pretty much every time we went down a clean table was a challenge. 3. No apple juice. 4. The pool had a closed sign posted by the health department from the day we checked in until after we left. 5. The bathroom door didn't have a working lock. 6. The bathroom light flickered like a bad horror movie. 7. They ran out of clean towels - how does a hotel run out of clean towels. I will say all the staff we encountered were very friendly, but that is only half the effort. read more

Horrible internet bandwidth and access point placement. I ALWAYS stay at Hampton inn and I never have dealt with speeds this bad. Also Don't go farther then the 2nd floor you will bearly get reception for wifi. I have tried connecting, releasing my IP, and even signing up for premium access ($5.00) the speed never changes. I looked into my wireless cards speed, 54 Mbps. They must be running 802.11g, the pipe is just too thin here. Stay somewhere else. Web surfing is bad bad bad. read more

The hotel itself was clean, inviting and had a really nice layout. I enjoyed all the little details and was pleased with their complimentary breakfast. They even gave me some snacks for the road!
