I love Hampton Inns. They're clean, the rooms are spacious, and everything well-kept. A little more expensive than some other properties, but you get what you pay for. Unfortunately, this Hampton Inn is none of those things. The staff was friendly at least, and one appreciates that a lot these days. But for a seemingly recently renovated place things are run down and everything seems to be in a state of deep attrition. Housekeeping is every other day, and if you miss your window you need to make an appeal. The couple in front of me at reception wanted their trash emptied and the front desk person offered them a trash bag since they weren't on the rotation that day. But the real cost-saving-at-the-customer's expense is in the room itself. Pillows feel like if you took your early winter puffer jacket and folded it over once. Towels are like the 80 grit sandpaper in your wood working class when your teacher knew you wouldn't bother to make your mini-bookshelf that smooth. The room itself was cramped compared to all other Hampton Inns I've been to--the king bed takes up most of the space between the walls it sits in. The room rates were not too bad, but considering this property sits in the middle of the West Bloomfield Speedway, maybe not. This has nothing to do with the business, but driving in this area is pretty unpleasant, with roundabouts and U-turns at every... turn. It's just strip malls and pickup trucks aggressively exceeding all posted speed limits around here, but again that's not the hotel's fault, more a consideration for people who are looking to stay here. Anyway, I suppose I'd give it 2.5 stars because of the friendly staff, but that's not available here... You can see from other reviews I'm not alone on the issues of housekeeping, bedding, and general disrepair of this place. read more

This Hampton is a newer property, probably under 10 years old, and looks pretty good! The rate seemed quite reasonable, and parking was free. There is an indoor pool, which may be where the slightly musty smell in the lobby was coming from. There's also a fitness room, and business center. This hotel is pet friendly and there is a small grassy area outside one of the side doors, but all three boxes of waste bags were empty. There was also no toilet paper in room, not even a partial roll on the holder, and we found someone had left some condiments and beverage mix packets in the drawers. The bed was comfortable and the pillows were nice. The location is near another hotel off a busy road. There was a brunch restaurant that would be walkable, but otherwise it isn't a pedestrian-friendly location. I noticed a liquor store that would be walkable as well, but they were closed by 7 p.m. on a Friday. I would stay here again but if we were going out to dinner I'd probably look for a rideshare due to the weird Michigan traffic setup and amount of traffic. read more

Would have been 5 stars except parking is not great. We were in the area for a funeral, we got there about 2:30 and the young lady at the desk said it would be a short wait as our room wasn't ready yet. When she heard we were there for a funeral she called housekeeping and had them get a room ready right away. In the morning, breakfast was good with several choices and a pleasant woman to attend to our needs. The room was very clean as was the whole hotel. read more

Carpet is dirty and stained throughout the building on all 3 floors and in the rooms as well room worn out. Carpet square in my room was slightly lifted had the room had a musty odor. Miserable experience compounded by an invasion of privacy by the hotel staff. Never staying here again. I travel to the Detroit area frequently and will find a different hotel to stay at from now on. The hotel had petitioned Yelp to have my original review (copied above) removed. So I came back to make sure it stays alive with more details. The hotel staff barged into my room when the do not disturb sign was up after we had paid for an extra nights stay. This caused a serious problem for my girlfriend and was a despicable act by the hotel staff. If I could press charges I would unfortunately it's their property. The hotel is new and the staff is new and it shows. Terrible service and management wasn't helpful at all when we explained to them what happened. Please feel free to ask Yelp to remove this post to save your lousy ratings. I'll just repost it again and again and again. Learn to treat your customers better. read more

Bleh. I had three issues with this hotel, ranked here from probably most to least relevant for you: 1) The breakfast is -crap-. Normally I don't pay much attention to the hotel "breakfast" but this one was so lousy it was noticeable. Everything from the oatmeal to the waffle mix was some form of pre-packaged, and the cheapest possible, most artificial pre-packaged option at that. There was not really fresh fruit and no milk options. It was like what you would have if you were camping, and I don't mean car camping. Eating breakfast here just kind of made us sad for the whole rest of the morning. 2) They gave us - for our "suite" room at $179 per night mind you - exactly three tiny paper-thin bath towels that were approximately 11"x17" and washed in an entire bottle of fabric softener. Thus each towel had the capacity to absorb a maximum of two molecules of water. It was completely impossible to dry off after the shower. We just used our clothes to complete the job. If there is one thing a hotel could get right, it would be supplying you with towels, and towels are not a complicated technology - they just need to be large enough and not covered in a layer that repels water. 3) There is this strange design where a sliding door can close off either the bathroom OR the closet, but not both simultaneously. That probably doesn't matter, but it does if you have little kids! But the kicker is that I wouldn't have even necessarily written this Yelp review right now except the hotel sent me a survey where I responded with the points above, and then was actually contacted by the manager who claimed that all of the above are not his problem because they are "Hampton Inn standard." I've stayed at my share of Hampton Inns and I don't recall pillow cases LARPing as towels and weird ass sliding doors. So just for that bit of lying, here's a Yelp review. read more

The only reason I'm knocking off one star: the beds were super uncomfortable. In recent years, I've rarely said this about hotels, especially ones that are recently remodeled. However, this Hampton Inn had the hardest mattresses I've ever experienced in a hotel and I hated it. I was pretty uncomfortable the three nights we were here. The mattresses were clearly new and I really enjoyed the new linens and pillows (there were so many pillows!) but the mattresses were just super hard. I wasn't a fan and I was a little sore in the lower back because of them. Other than the mattresses, the hotel was great. The check-in staff were super friendly, we got up to our room immediately, and there was popcorn available in the lobby free of charge. Yum! They offer coffee and tea all day and it seems to always be full so you can utilize that if you need it. They have a little "market" to purchase snacks and microwaveable food if you want something more substantial than the free popcorn. This hotel is across the street from a strip mall with some restaurants and a pizza place in the shared parking lot so you have tons of food options. The rooms were fairly large, had a workspace plus flat screen TV. A lot of channels but many didn't work or were "not purchased" which was weird. There were a few armchairs so you could have a few people in the room to socialize if you wanted. There was a mini-fridge and a microwave plus a little coffee maker for the room. I just brought my own to-go cup downstairs for some fresh, hot coffee and that suited me just fine. The bathroom was spacious and they have a hair dryer, which is always convenient. There's a pool and a fitness center that are both open until midnight if you want to use either. No one seemed to be in them whenever we walked by so it seems like you'd have some decent privacy. Really, this hotel was really nice. Newly remodeled, friendly people and staff, even a pool and a fitness center. There's a small business center for printing and stuff if you need that. Parking lot was large and never seemed full at night. Really, just the mattresses were uncomfortable but some people are into that so I guess I can't complain too much. I would give in 0 stars if able. Usually a huge fan of all Hilton properties and I Have been an Honors members for years. This place, however, refused to honor the reservation (for connecting rooms) I made on the Hilton App 3 weeks ago. (As I have many, many time before without incident.) When asked why this occurred, they had no explanation. They further said it was my fault for using the app and not calling them directly to make the reservation. The hotel was fully booked so I was out of luck, they said. When I further explained true complications this would create (loud boys in one of the rooms) she informed they would call the cops and kick us out if they receive notice complaints. The front desk check in woman was the rudest, meanest, most threatening BULLY I have ever encountered in my adult life. Despite the error the hotel itself made for not honouring my reservation they refused to compensate one of the rooms. Hilton headquarters is going to hear an earful but please DO. NOT. STAY. We spent two nights at the Hampton Inn and were highly impressed with the service. Susan, in particular, was exceptional. My wife is allergic to feathers - so we requested pillows without feathers. Susan (at the front desk) made sure our room feather-free and follow up with us to ensure everything was fine. Her warm personality and customer service made my wife, daughter and me feel very welcome. Our room was pretty standard - but it was clean, nice and we had no issues. The rest of the staff was also very friendly. The hotel had continental breakfast, free wifi, a swimming pool, and a small fitness center. Overall, for the price and the location - we were pleased with our choice and will be visiting this hotel again. read more

A nice, new hotel. Everything was clean and the staff was friendly. Knocking them down one star because they're still working out some kinks. For example, the coffee ran out during peak breakfast rush and it took almost half an hour to replace it. But that's probably just growing pains for the staff of a new establishment. The location is central to West Bloomfield, Farmington Hills and Southfield. It's Metro Detroit (heavily suburban), so you will need a car. Lots of restaurants and shopping options up and down Orchard Lake Road and Northwestern Highway. If you need a place to stay in the area you would do well to stay here. read more

I just want to thank the manager, Sam for taking such great care of me. I finally left my abusive boyfriend's house and had to stay here while my family came in from Chicago to bring me and all my things home. For my protection he put my information in as a different name in case he called so he wouldn't know i was there. He asked to see a picture of him to make sure he didn't allow him in if he showed up. Nicest Hampton Inn ever! Extremely new. Front desk associates were very friendly. We had a king room with adjoining double queen room. The rooms were clean. The king room was spacious with a great bathroom. We took advantage of the wonderful amenities. The pool was so much fun. Breakfast was plentiful. The workout room was spotless. We get off the road after a 17 hour drive and make a reservation at this hotel. We get there at midnight and they tell us it's a water issue where we can't drink the water or brush our teeth. I came to this hotel after a very long day. So I was tired and ready to relax. I got my key and went to my room. I pulled back the sheets and noticed small hairs all over the sheets. I immediately went to ask for another room. The guy at the front desk apologized and gave me another room. I went to that room and this time pulled back the comforter on both beds and noticed the same thing. I went back downstairs to the front desk and told them my problem. They apologized profusely and looked embarrassed. I requested a refund and asked the manager to find me another hotel. He said that he could give me a refund but couldn't find another hotel for me. This left me scrambling to find a hotel in a sold out city. Finally an hour later I found a place using priceline but for more than what I would have paid. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. As I walked out of this hotel another couple was leaving due to cleanliness issues as well and wanted a refund. I will say that when you walk into this hotel it is the most beautiful Hampton Inn you've ever seen. Just don't sleep in the filthy beds. read more

Excellent hotel!!! We stayed in Dec for a week and the staff went above and beyond in every aspect. From a very warm welcome at check in with cookies and popcorn, quick service of a minor issue to cleaning the snow off our car during the winter storm. Amazing! We were in the process of a relocation and had just vacated our home - Mark and all the staff made us and our 4-year old daughter feel at home during a difficult time of transition for us. Great warm breakfast every morning, hot coffee throughout the day and very clean housekeeping. Prior to beginning a 6 hour drive, my family and I called the hotel to confirm our reservation had been in place for our arrival. Michelle, the front desk attendant, claimed that our reservation was set. Once arriving, we were informed that the hotel was overbooked and our reservation had not actually been acknowledged and was actually cancelled without notification. Fortunately, we were recommended a hotel nearby, but the front desk attendant working, failed to inform/provide us with a confirmation for our reservation they made at the nearby. I too am surprised by the negative reviews. I'll chalk it up to growing pains in a new property. I stayed there for a total of 7-8 nights in June while preparing to move to the area. I agree about too much bleach in the sheets. I had used the pool and initially thought I hadn't showered well enough before climbing into bed, but I later realized it was the bedding. I experienced outstanding service however, so bleachy-smelling sheets is the worst thing I can say about this hotel. The rooms, hallway, dining area and pool were very clean. The staff treated me like family. They went above and beyond expectations. Small gestures such as offering to melt cheese on my breakfast potatoes and making sure I grabbed a bagged breakfast when I was running late put them over the top IMO. read more

This is my first stay at a Hampton Inn. I checked in around 8:30 P.M. The check in went smooth, but, when I reached my room, I realized that my room did not have a bath tub. I called the front desk to reserve another room, the front desk placed me in another room, which did not have a tub, either. I inquired into this and stated that they did not have any rooms with a tub available. If I had known that the hotel only has stand up showers, I would not have made a reservation with this hotel. I ended up checking out within an hour of my check in time and requested my payment reimbursed. The front desk told me that I could not receive it, even though there were signs that stated that if I was unhappy, I could. I am not happy with the outcome of this and will never stay here again. Another thing, when I walked by the pool, there were 2 couples that were clearly having sex in the pool. It was completely disgusting. read more

I tried to stay here with my 2 year old. We had a over night flight so we slept the majority of the morning. The walls are paper thin I could hear conversations all around. As soon as my son woke up the front desk began calling complaining that we were to loud. My son was playing with his cars on the bed. He was not yelling or crying. The front desk continued to call 3 more times being very rude offering no solutions. So we packed our bags and left on New Years Eve. I told the lady at the front desk what happened and she said not to check out she would speak with a manager and take care of it. No apology nothing and I was still charged for my stay. After this horrible experiance and having to call back I have to say that Mark was really great! He listened to me and let me know how horrible he felt.
