I recently sought a second opinion after being diagnosed with a gastrointestinal condition by another practice. Dr. Hanan's office scheduled me within a week (we coordinated timing so my most recent test results were available). I came prepared with records, test results, and many questions. Rather than simply accepting the prior diagnosis, Dr. Hanan carefully reviewed my information and asked thoughtful questions about why I believed I had that condition. After evaluating everything, he explained that he was not convinced the original diagnosis was correct and outlined a more measured approach. He recommended a structured dietary plan (lean white meats and cooked vegetables/fruits, avoiding fried foods) and asked me to track my intake and symptoms. I've had four interactions with Dr. Hanan; one at the ER, one during a colonoscopy/endoscopy, and two office visits before and after my colonoscopy and endoscopy. Dr. Hanan is an intelligent doctor who is excellent at his job. Hes been practicing for over 30 years too. He's what I would classify as "old school." What I mean by "old school" is that he will tell you what he thinks and is very straightforward, which some may find off putting. I don't find find it off putting at all. I like that he doesn't mince words because he's diagnosing medically, which to me, is important. Lastly, I like that he's affiliated with Memorial Hospital. I prefer Memorial Hospital because the staff is friendly and wait times are non-existent (see my review on Memorial Hospital for more detail). If you're debating a GI doctor, have a consult with Dr. Hanan; I did, and I thought he did a great job. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Hanan for about a year, and consider him an excellent GI specialist. His office in South Tampa is relatively close to 275 and not hard to find. There is plenty of parking, though you may have to walk a bit to the main entrance. His office staff are courteous and helpful, and answer the phone promptly. Whenever I call to ask the doctor questions he returns my phone call the same day. I've had no issues with booking appointments for urgent matters or receiving prescriptions and refills. Dr. Hanan takes the time to research and thoroughly examine. My outpatient surgery went swimmingly. If you're experiencing major tummy troubles that your regular doctor can't seem to remedy, call doctor Dr. Hanan's office and book an appointment. I agree that this is one of the worst doctor experiences I have ever had! I am sitting in my car after leaving crying. This felt like an interrogation and not a doctors visit. I spent $125 dollars to be put down and walk out of the office crying. A doctor should never make a patient feel like that!! He wouldn't listen to me on how I had the problem before I stopped smoking and gained weight. He blamed it all on my weight. Google reviews show many comments of similar nature about his receptionist(s). Awful women that obviously hate their lives. I am a patient of Dr. Hanan's. Because he is excellent doctor, an expert diagnostician, and a very decent human being, I have remained his patient and still often recommend him to friends and family. Before I first visited his office nearly 30 years ago, I had been to several doctors to deal with an intestinal issue, but not one had treated my condition successfully. I had resorted to searching bookstores for answers and found a book that seemed to describe what I was experiencing. I mentioned it to Dr. Hanan. He asked to see the book and even took it home to read. I was pleased and flabbergasted: WHAT DOCTOR DOES THAT? Because he agreed with the suggested protocol, he urged me to try the dietary plan, and he prescribed the recommended medication. Two months into the treatment, my energy returned and my intestinal issue improved enough that I was free of symptoms. It is rare to find a dedicated and expert physician who truly listens and is open to trying something new. I highly recommend him. read more

This was one of the worst doctor/patient experiences I've ever had! Based on reviews I've read, Dr. Hanan seemed to be a stellar physician. I got stuck in traffic on the way there, so I called the office to tell them I might be 5-10 minutes late and they said no problem. When I arrived at Habana Ave (the street the office is on), I'm unable to find the office address, so I call the front desk again to ask for directions. At this point, I'm already 2 minutes late. I told the girl on the phone I was in a parking lot EXACTLY where DeLeon and Habana intersect. She couldn't figure out where I was and tried getting other girls in the office to "help". I repeated my location again, and this time, I'm told to "go back to Swann", then, "go back to Gomez". I had never been on either of those streets! They weren't listening to me and didn't care that they were making me even more late. I finally gave up and parked across the street in Hospital Parking, and got stuck walking through a construction site. Another doctor passing by saw I was lost and offered help. I asked him where Dr. Hanan's office was and he pointed to the building NEXT TO THE LOT I WAS FIRST PARKED IN. The office staff was too dense to realize I was parked in their office parking lot!! I make it to the office 20 minutes late. The girls behind the counter knew I was the one on the phone who had been upset. No apology was given, they didn't ask if I was ok or anything. Instead, I hear them making comments about me, "I don't appreciate people who act like that". The intake nurse wasn't any better. When she took my blood pressure, it read high because I was upset. I tried to explain this to her but she ignored me. When I finally saw the doctor, it got worse. He didn't shake my hand, spoke in a condescending tone, laughed at me if I answered a question "wrong", and said things to me like, "Let me rephrase this in a way you can understand". RUDE. Zero bedside manner! Dr. Hanan knows his trade on an intellectual level, he understands how the body works, but he and his unprofessional office staff know jack shit when it comes to treating the person. Dr Hanan personally returned my call twice. I've practiced has a retail pharmacist for almost 30 years in Tampa. Even professionally it's extremely difficult for me to speak with the dr's. About 15 years ago I choose Dr. Hanan after my sister and first cousin both were diagnosed with intestinal CA in their early 30's; also; because of all the GI doc's, I saw fewer mistakes and better follow thru from his office staff. Terry outshines other doctors liaisons in a more direct, friendly and efficient matter. That takes me to Dr. Hanan. He's on his A-game (no pun intended; he's a Alabama fan). Fair warning: at my first appointment he enquired if I had my previous medical records, of course I did not. The office visits are thorough, but what is so impressive is Dr. Hanan has grown my confidence level. His attention demonstrated by his follow-up calls and diagnostic skill makes him the GI doc I recommend. read more

Dr Hanan was recommended highly by quite a few of my peers. After I scheduled my initial consultation appointment, I received a packet in the mail with the forms I needed to fill out during my leisure. The staff included an index card in the packet with a check list of everything I needed to bring to the appointment so I could be prepared when I arrived. So easy. Kim and Dari at the reception area were very kind. Kim made a copy of my ID and insurance card. Nurse Terrie, led me to the back where I was weighed and had my blood pressure checked. Within minutes Dr Hanan came in and introduced himself and was very pleasant. He explained the colonoscopy procedure (my first time) in detail including a 3D model so I could see and understand what polyps looks like and how a polyp adhesion can become cancerous if left untreated. Dr Hanan answered all of my questions and gave me referrals for a couple other things that I needed. Upon checking out, Terrie once again checked in with me to make sure I had everything I needed to schedule my procedure and asked if I had any other questions. I felt so relieved that I was in good hands! I had a great experience and would recommend Dr Hanan to any of my peers. read more
