Strong Credentials but Major Shortfalls in Patient Care and Communication - A Cautionary Tale…read more I have waited an entire year since my surgery to post this review so that I could express my experience accurately in a rational and non-accusatory manner. I selected Dr. Farooq for a complex hemorrhoidectomy based on a straightforward routine colonoscopy he performed earlier, which went smoothly, and his website's clear self-pay rates that eliminated financial uncertainty. These were genuine positives that drew me in. However, my subsequent experience with him for this more involved procedure highlighted significant gaps in personalized care, empathy, and follow-through, which ultimately impacted my recovery. I'm sharing this to alert others--especially those facing colorectal issues--to prioritize surgeons who invest in thorough, compassionate interactions beyond the initial consult. Dr. Farooq and his wife have produced YouTube videos where he comes across as genuinely cordial, informative and compassionate, but my in-person interactions bore no resemblance to that persona. The office environment seemed more oriented toward upselling cosmetic procedures and his fiber supplements than delivering focused colorectal care. The pre-surgery process felt impersonal from the start. After a two-minute initial consultation, I had no further in-person meetings with Dr. Farooq. My pre-op was handled entirely by the nurse practitioner, who performed the anoscopy and, I assume, shared findings with him. On surgery morning, he briefly checked in, and when I mentioned my many questions but expressed trust in his expertise, his visible relief suggested a preference for minimal engagement. I was informed he'd decide intraoperatively on any additional procedures, which added to the uncertainty. Post-op, the lack of clarity persisted. In recovery, the nurse couldn't detail what was done, and it was evident from her response that a follow-up visit from the doctor wasn't planned. I had to insist the staff track him down so I could get answers. My recovery was painful but expected, and a three-month check-in was routine. Then, about a month later, constipation led to a fissure in my rectal scar tissue, causing excruciating pain. That's when things deteriorated sharply. In severe distress, I explicitly asked for a gentle exam. Instead, he inserted the anoscope forcefully, triggering the worst pain I've ever endured--I screamed, sweated profusely, and nearly passed out. There was zero acknowledgment of my agony: no apology, no reassurance, just a curt dismissal. When I could barely speak but managed to ask about pain relief, his response was, "No, only time will heal this. And you need to get off the stool softeners." This advice was not only unhelpful but counterproductive, as it ignored standard protocols for fissure management. Frustrated and in ongoing pain, I sought care elsewhere. A different colorectal surgeon promptly prescribed a healing ointment and confirmed I should continue stool softeners to prevent straining--advice that aligned with what I'd researched and brought relief. Dr. Farooq has the technical skills for routine cases, but for complex ones requiring emotional support and detailed guidance, this approach falls short. Colorectal surgery is intimate and vulnerable; patients deserve more than efficiency. I recommend seeking providers with robust patient reviews on communication and bedside manner, and always advocating for yourself by preparing questions in advance. Transparency on costs is commendable, but it shouldn't come at the expense of holistic care. Proceed with eyes wide open.

After suffering with hemroids for several years and being afraid of going to a doctor to get almost the less painful exam of my rear end and being told that surgery is not the answer for most hemorrhoids and not only can it be taken care of this Dr. Shiraz Farooq, proctologist located on Violet Street in Tampa, Fl. For years I was completey scared to death that the worst pain was trying to get rid of the hemorrhoids using gels, suppositories, every thing that came on line to try and get rid of them only to be disappointed again while the fear and the only knowledge I knew of would be surgery and Dr Farooq was the doctor that I saw and was there to assure me of the treatment. Anyone, who has suffered from these, I encourage you to seek out Dr. Shiraz Farooq and get on with life Again, I will leave the address so you can search and find his office at 2313 W. Dr Moenning had me sit on this device and then did an examination on the table and after a talk ( a good talk about diet, meds etc ), Dr Moenning announced that in his opinion there was something wrong other than what I had come in for ( hemmoroids ) and made it sound like it could be something attached to my spine or other part of my body. I didn't take it seriously at that time which was a big mistake on my part. Here I am 1 1/2 years later, 7 treatments under anestisia with one guy in port charlotte and another in venice and finally as neither one of these experts even had an opinion, I went to a world renowned hospital where they, after a barrage of tests concluded that I may have pelvic floor disorder and absolutely not hemeroids. Had I just listened to Dr Moenning to begin with, I probably would have been able to avoid most if not all of the.........expertice these local port charlotte/venice docs bestowed on me . If Dr Moenning tells you something.......don't be like I was, listen and follow his directions. He knows what he is talking about. I wish I was close enough to see him but if you are anywhere near him, you should strongly consider seeing him for your medical issues.

After an endoscopy and then a colonoscopy, his findings saw nothing wrong. Surgery was scheduled but I couldn't wait. I went to the emergency room at St. Joseph's in Riverview, Florida and they suggeted gastroparesis. They sent me home. The next week i went to Advent Health Emergency in Riverview . They did an endoscopy and couldn't see because so much blood clouded the view. By this time, I lost another 15 lbs and weighed 94 lbs. My hemoglobin dropped further to 6.0 or below. They drained the blood from my stomach and repeated the endoscopy 5 days later and found a duodenal ulcer so large that it blocked my stomach from emptying. It was so large and there was so much scar tissue thst it would never open again ,confirmed by one more endoscopy at a later date. I had surgery to cut a new hole in my stomach and connect to my intestines. After 17 days in the hospital, blood transfusions and a drain through my nose to my stomach, I am finally healing and still have my gallbladder. No more pain. I ended up having a Laparoscpic Gatrojejunosomy. Sorry two doctors and one emergency room found nothing. Thanks to my nurse practitioner, Alexis Scott, at Cooper Family Medical who followed my case diligently, i persisted to find the answer.

My insurance told me no deductibles, no copay, but Dr. Santiago's office insisted I pay $100 up front "just in case." I paid, believing they would be honest and return it. In the office, Dr. Santiago did a procedure and I had to pay extra for itbecause that was "not covered." She then told me I needed to go get my prostate checked and she would refer me to a colleague. (I didn't go, suspecting already that this was a money generating procedure.) After my colonoscopy, she told me she had found one small polyp that looked harmless and that she had removed it, and then told me to check back into her clinic in one month. I didn't understand why because this had not happened with my previous two procedures. Her office scheduled me and I showed up a month later and sat around waiting for a long time. An hour later, since I had a business appointment, I told the front desk to reschedule. They did, and I left. But then just before the next appointment, they called to reschedule again. I asked them to send me my screening results. "No, can't do that, have to meet with the doctor first." This was another first. I asked two separate times, but they said they would only give them to me if I went into the clinic again. This is highly unregular, and I suspected they would look for something else to charge me for. They still haven't returned my deposit of $100. My primary care physician was puzzled by this whole thing, and so he said he would request the results since I had paid for them and they legally belonged to me. I would not recommend anyone else subject themselves to this bizarre treatment. Be very suspect if they ask you for money up front when there should be no copay or deductible. And when they tell you the only way you can get what is legally yours is to book another appointment with them!

I told the guy there that no one told me of this so called upfront charge, he said he tells everyone, I told him, that you just told me. Any how I said I wasn't prepared to pay 125.00 and I left. I immediately called my insurance company, I also had my friend, who took the day off work to take me for this call the clinic, the insurance company asked them what was the procedure/ test called, they gave their billing code, while on the phone, I asked why they didn't mention this prior to me coming in, the guy said he did, I told him that he didn't and that if he did I would of been is the phone with my insurance company, like now. I was told that he wasn't going to argue with me. Once I hung up, the insurance company looked into the code and informed me that the test is covered and I again have zero deductable. They heard the conversation with me and the clinic and asked me about filing a grievance, which I said I would like to, that this company could of just followed thru with checking with my insurance company as I was filling out the paperwork and avoided this, but it seems as if these people are in it for taking unsuspecting patients for a ride.

Dr Weston is very thorough with his exams, and takes the time to talk and explain each course of action that he recommends. I've never felt rushed by him or his staff even though I'm usually one of his last patients of the day. As anyone knows who has to deal with doctors offices, the staff are the back bone of any medical practice. His medical assistants Savannah and Nicole are top shelf, and always get back with me the same day any time I've called them. So why write a review for a doctor?
