Apparently there is an associated book club that meets monthly. Note the hours; the library is closed all day on Sunday and Wednesday. This library is so charming. Besides it being nestled into downtown Berkeley Springs, the library building is filled with character. It used to be a home and was built in 1870. The original lot owner signed the Declaration of Independence! If you love public libraries, or if you are unfamiliar, you will find a library home here.

This review is specifically for the one on Washington Street across from the court. This was a great little library. Centrally located with easy parking and in a very cute part of town. Staff was relatively helpful. I had some issues reserving a room, but the librarian on duty was very accommodating when the system wasn't quite working right. The wifi works well and there are a number of cozy places to sit and read or do work. While there was only one conference room you could realistically have a call or meeting in, there is also a nice study corner (pictured with the glass) that was a very productive place for me to work. All in all the library is well laid out, with a separate children's section away from the more quiet study and work areas. Note that the study/conference room is right next to the children's area. But the door is relatively insulated and the fact that children might be noisy nearby makes one less likely to feel bad about having an animated phone call or meeting.

It is very nice to look at; functionally it didn't have as much seating as I would have liked and the ability to find a workspace that met my teleworking needs was not ideal. The outlets I tried to plug into did not work. The front door was also a little janky; they ended up propping it open. I don't have much use for printed materials but this is an actual library that does have books and magazines, and people were walking out with DVDs. It is a great resource for the community but it did seem from my experience that it needed a little update/maintenance.

Yes, easily removable on a gloss surface, generally. HOWEVER, direct-to-paper pricing stickers are a complete dealbreaker for 1960s-1980s matte paperbacks. Vintage paperbacks from publishers like Ace, DAW, and Ballantine used uncoated covers. Trying to peel them off with alcohol or ever a dryer ruin the book's value and is heartbreaking for lovers of old paperbacks. It's unfortunate.

The variety of books and media are extensive. I especially love some of the newly released books that they have at all of the libraries. We recently went to the Point of Rocks library to use the Memory Lab (which is a very nice service that the library offers) to use the equipment and digitize some videos. The librarians and the volunteer who helped us went above and beyond to make sure that everything worked well. We really appreciate everything that FCPL has to offer!!

There are popular reading groups for adults and kids, and summer reading programs. For a small fee, they provide fax services, both incoming and outgoing. Oh, and they have a notary on the staff too. I could go on and on!
