Great selection of Vintage Science fiction paperbacks. Prices are fair. Definitely beats ordering single issues online . My issue is the large modern price stickers. Yes, easily removable on a gloss surface, generally. HOWEVER, direct-to-paper pricing stickers are a complete dealbreaker for 1960s-1980s matte paperbacks. Vintage paperbacks from publishers like Ace, DAW, and Ballantine used uncoated covers. Trying to peel them off with alcohol or ever a dryer ruin the book's value and is heartbreaking for lovers of old paperbacks. It's unfortunate. read more

Honestly the best bookstore I've ever been too... tons of great stuff, good prices on rare/antique/vintage books, and the most incredible customer service I could ask for. There was a small hiccup/misunderstanding with a large set of books I purchased from them (it was missing one volume out of 150) and the owner went out of his way to make it right. He ordered me the missing volume and had it mailed to my house since I live two hours away. This was my second trip to Blue Plate and I will always make sure to stop by whenever I'm in the area. read more

This book store seems to take up three units and they have about every kind of book you can think of for all ages. It's incredibly well maintained and the gentleman who runs the store was very kind. In addition the prices can't be beat. read more

Amazing place for any and every book you've ever wanted. You could get lost here for days. Loved their vintage and rare section too! And the different sections of subjects were the most organized I've ever seen! The guys working there are super helpful. It for 4/5 stars just because when selling books they give you hardly anything for them, which I could understand if the prices weren't as steep, but for mostly used books they're kinda expensive. I don't think I found one for under $8. But I'd still recommend checking it out! There's nothing else like it around! read more

I love going into vintage/used books stores and have done so across the country. I had the good fortune of stopping in yesterday, as I was in town on vacation. Without a doubt, this was the finest bookstore I have ever visited. It is clearly owned, managed and staffed by individuals who love books and are dedicated to providing excellent customer service. There are so many aspects to this shop that speak to its superiority, but I will list just a few. The collection is well organized, labeled and shelved (no piles to sort through here). There are numerous little nooks to visit and ample chairs, couches and step stools to sit on, inviting you to stay and read. The collection itself is comprehensive and so well organized that it can be searched by employees with a computer in the front, or easily by a customer who wishes to browse. If the prices seem just a bit high, please remember that you are paying for the expertise of someone to catalogue, price, label and shelve these books, as there is no "junk" here. Also, the store is inviting because it does not smell like mold or dust, a minor thing perhaps, but it certainly contributes to the overall environment of the store. Finally, as mentioned earlier, the customer service was phenomenal, as they were friendly and engaging! Thank you Blue Plate Books! I hope to have the joy of visiting again soon. read more

My husband and I stopped in one evening, just to look around. We ended up spending $250 on books. We brought home more than 40 books for the library. The paperbacks started at $4, and the hardcover were dependent on many different factors for their cost. But, most of ours were around $8. The lady we had helping us was an absolute delight to speak with. She knew her books, she knew the store layout very thoroughly, and she could not have been a nicer representation of the store. For all of those reasons, we'll be going back for years to come for our library needs/wants. read more

I really wanted to love this place, but the prices are too high, and the selection is average. You can't take a chance on books here. The paperbacks start at $8, most start at $10. Like so many places in the Winchester area, over priced and lacking in some good healthy competition. They have a monopoly in the area for used books that you'll be paying for. I love this place. My girlfriend and I go in here all the time. I wish I could remember the three main people that run this place. There are two gentleman and a lady, and they are the greatest. From the moment you walk in, they say hello and ask you to let them know if you need help finding something. This place is so much better than the local, joyless Books A Million. The book selection is pretty good. They have a little bit of everything. Poetry, Shakespeare, pulp Sci-Fi, WWII history, philosophy, Harry Potter, dense David Foster Wallace, HP Lovecraft, Pulitzer Prize Winners--you name it, there's a good chance you'll find it. The prices are very affordable, too. Books vary from $2-$15, and are very comparable to anything you'll find on Amazon--and $10-$25 cheaper than anything you'll find at that soulless, fart of a bookstore, Books A Million. When I popped into Blue Plate this afternoon, I was expecting the sort of bookstore that's casually run by someone nice who "likes books" in their free time. You know, a sort of well-meaning but not very impressive place that makes you feel a little bad for its impending closure. When I came through the door, I saw immediately just how wrong I'd been. Blue Plate apparently just moved into a new space just down from their old store, but it's filled with a wide variety of books and is quite comfy inside. The owner and staff clearly care about making the space a pleasant one, what with the neatly-organized shelves and well-curated subject sections. While they are a used book store, don't assume that most of their books are dusty, irrelevant things printed before your grandparents were even considering children. There are plenty of recent paperback bestsellers, beautiful rare books, and a truly wonderful selection of genres and authors. The staff are also friendly and pleased to be helpful, whether it's with an armful of books you've found or a specific title that they might seek out especially for you. The BEST book store I have ever been in (and I've been in quite a few, I'm a heavy reader). The selection is phenomenal, the customer service is exceptional, and the prices are beyond amazing. The owners were very patient and helped us find everything my mother and I were looking for. The range of what's available is limitless and there's sure to be something for everyone's taste. Great store on the whole. More for the "I must have a new looking used book" kinda people. I dont understand the reasoning for folks who dont get a book based on it being a bit wrinkled or whatever the case may be. Its not meant to be displayed to impress, but to read! So Blue Plate I think caters to the majority, those type of folks. Youll find that in abundance however. Books on everything basically. The staff is very friendly, and it is a comfortable store. I dont recommend selling books here, you wont get much if anything. And the prices on books are pricey. read more
