    Moving on and growing up

For the last 10 years, this school has grown my two children and provided the safest and most accommodating educational facility for a single working mom! Not only are the prices affordable but the hours of operation allow flexibility and give me a peace of mind when my children are with the teachers and staff, knowing they are in good hands! Thank you to everyone over the last decade!

My daughter Harper attended Hand-in-Hand for an entire year. There were multiple times she would come home with diaper rash, Harper is very sensitive on her private area, if pee or poop sits too long in her diaper she'll get a really painful rash. Which happened several times. Harper is in the potty-training stage, when she is at home, she does very well telling us she has to go potty, but somehow when she went to school she backtracked. Harper is very active and likes to run around, she would fall multiple times and come home with "owwies", now I will agree Harper is very active and likes to run around, but it seemed like every other day something happened. And they don't "pick the kids up and console them, it's more of a "you're ok, it's ok" type of response- what was told to us after she fell pretty bad. There were two recent incidents that upset me and my husband. The first incident at Hand-In-Hand, Harper fell into a wooden cubby and had a really big knot and a scrape crossed her forehead. The school called to notify us of the incident. After seeing her knot/scrape we wanted to see the video of this incident (the cameras is one of their selling points) however, it took them a week to show us the incident because they had to wait on the Director to be present. When we finally saw the video (a week later) Harper was running around like they said, but the other children in the class responded to check on Harper first. We don't even know how long it took her teachers to attend to her because the director ended the video right after the children approached her. The second time Harper got a rug burn on her head, no one notified me or my husband, the imagine my surprise when I arrive to pick my daughter up and there is a huge scrape on her face. Harper will come home singing every nursery rhyme ever written, but didn't know her numbers, letters, shapes or colors, so I am confused on what is actually being taught?! To top it off, on Harper's last day of school, my mom picked her up and said she smelled poop while driving home. When she got Harper home, there was dried up feces all over her butt and diaper, her private area was extremely irritated and red, my mom had to rinse her in a warm bath. I was out of town for this incident, but it was the last straw, so I am now writing this review. Hand-In-Hand didn't have one parent-teacher conference with us, or outside school activities like picture day, trunk-or-treat, etc (which can be a fun activity to bonding with friends, teachers and parents). I understand a lot can happen quickly, and Harper's past teachers were very kind, however there were too many accidents and not enough learning. I knew there were better institutions around us, so I did some research and school visits, and Harper is no longer with Hand-In-Hand. She now attends Goddard. Harper is a completely new child in just a week's time. She doesn't wear diapers at all, because they really want the children to learn independence and become potty-trained. Of course she's had a couple of accidents, but the fact that she is going to the restroom is a huge step! Goddard also has an app in which they send daily logs, upcoming school events and pictures of Harper's day. They have teacher/parent conferences to update parents on how their children are doing/improving, spirit weeks-to encourage students to express themselves and have fun at school. There is also picture day twice a year- allowing parents to see their child's growth (physically). After Harper's first day, when we were leaving Harper asked for a hug and her new teacher said "whenever you come and go, you can give me a big hug!". So that made me happy, because students feel loved on. Ms Uli, the director at Goddard, is always present and knows every child's name. We see her at pick-up and drop-off. These are just things I've noticed in a week!

Juliana is amazing, she took her time and answered all our questions. She continues to be a great communicator and we love working with her. It was a bit rough at first, as this was a brand new thing to him, but it's been about 7 weeks now and everyday goes very well. Hands down, we can't thank Ms. Roshni enough for making this transition possible. She has put our minds at ease and I can see that the way she cares for our baby is something special. She is just amazing at her job and it's very obvious she really cares for these kids. Sooner than I thought, the drop offs got easier and he got more comfortable. Our son really likes her as well as the other teachers. She is the reason I can go to work each morning and not worry about my son. One of the teachers does come across as a bit firm in her approach, but my son seems to respond well to her and seems to like her. You can check in on 2 cameras; 10 minute sessions, 10 times per day, per user. The cameras are not great, 1 is terrible, but it does put your mind at ease to have that capability, and eventually, you stop checking in so much. I'm not too crazy about the food provided, but it is all included in the price which makes things very convenient, and you can bring in your own food if you want to. Communication is great, prices are fair, staff and teachers are friendly, all in all, we would recommend this location and plan on having our son attend for the long haul. Thank you for taking such great care of our baby!

We can't say enough good things about the staff and communication. As a new mom, I was nervous to send my then-18mo old into a daycare but the teachers alleviated my concerns. I still remember the first day when we dropped him off, I received a video of him *not crying* and singing with his new classmates, within 15 minutes. The teachers work hard to take care of the children and I can feel the love they pour into each student. The staff are extremely patient. We have a picky eater and Ms. Chrissy and the teachers worked to get him to eat and really encouraged him to try new things. The teachers make every effort to get kids to engage and get along. They address all my concerns and work diligently to prepare my pre-k student for kindergarten. I love to see his writing progress and his vocabulary explode! We love all the updates and newsletters. We especially love the pictures and videos the teachers send. I love the app we use to communicate and receive updates for the kids throughout the day. While this location is small, I also think it adds to the family feel and all the teachers know the children/parents. I feel safe sending my kids to this school and do not hesitate to recommend them to future families. The Teachers and Staff members are so welcoming and genuinely care about each and every child that walks through the front door. My son is in the Pre-K class with Ms. Faith. And let me tell you, she is such a wonderful teacher who always goes ABOVE and BEYOND for the students in her class. Not only is my son learning Spanish and sign-language in her class, but he is now reading better than my 6yo who attends 1st grade at a CCSD elementary school. A year ago, my son was struggling with his speech, expressing himself, and was socially awkward. Not anymore. Thanks to his teacher, he is very self-expressive and has so many friends throughout the facility! Ms. Faith finds fun and cool ways to incorporate STEM learning into their everyday curriculum. She also ensures to teach and celebrate a wide range of cultures and holidays such as Black History Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, and Lunar New Year! The classroom is filled with a diverse group of children so it is important to her that she does something special every month to celebrate them! My 6yo attends the facility on days that CCSD schools are out (holidays, spring/summer breaks). She has grown close with other children there and when I pick her up at the end of the day, she tells me she had an "Awesome day!" The summer break camp for the older kids is great because they have field trips planned out every week. The front desk staff are by far the best group of people, who are always willing to assist families if needed. More specifically, Ms. Kelsey and Ms. Kristen have truly been very helpful and supportive! The quality of care at CLA is top notch. Thank you CLA for everything you've done for my family!

Whenever I dropped her off or picked her up, she was in great spirits because I truly think she had a great time there. The staff is extremely willing to work with you and they do the best they can to help each family individually. I unfortunately Had to pull my daughter on Friday 8/7 Due to some major health and safety concerns. On Saturday My daughter was admitted to the PICU at 6 AM. I had to take her to the ER because her oxygen dropped to 88% and was fluctuating between 88%- 94% Even after breathing treatments and repositioning. She was diagnosed with Mycoplasma pneumoniae and she will be in the PICU for a minimum of 3 days. I had noticed there was a child who was extremely Sick and was having severe coughing fits. I brought my concerns up to the director, and as you can see in the message, she did acknowledge that the child was coughing but only made a courtesy call to let the mother know her child was still sick. I believe that child should've been sent home for the simple fact that the teachers were unable to stop this child from coughing on other children, Wiping her nose and then touching other children and toys,& really just maintaining basic health standards. I understand that children get sick and I understand that the staff is not able to have their eye on the children 24/7. However, this poses a major health concern If they're still going to allow sick children to be there. When I addressed my concerns, I was hit with the pretty generic corporate response and told to refer to the policy. As you can see (photo attached) -- the policy is quite vague and leaves a lot of room for interpretation. I've highlighted the section that I feel would've qualified that child to be sent home. The director stated multiple times that she is not a doctor And doesn't have much medical knowledge. I, however, am a health professional, and I do have the medical knowledge. I knew that the wet, productive cough, loud breathing & severe crying, we're all signs and symptoms of more than just a common cold. So, In this case, they weren't even following their own policy. There were approximately 20 babies who were exposed to Mycoplasma pneumoniae because of their negligence. I think it's in the best interest of the facility to review their sick policy and make some changes to avoid anything like this happening in the future. They're inability to follow their own policy, Has left me with an extremely sick child, PICU bills & a week of lost income. If you do choose to sign your child up, I suggest that you look over the policies extremely closely & DO NOT let them downplay your concerns like they did with me. If you have a child that is more susceptible to illness I would suggest looking elsewhere. The staff was very kind throughout this entire process (even when I had a sever attitude w/ them out of frustration) but that does not negate their negligence to this serious situation. I will be attempting to meet with the director on Monday to go over her policy so they can make proper changes to avoid this happening w/ other children. But, for me my trust in the facility is completely tarnished
