You can hunt around and find better prices on boots or hats, but otherwise this is the place, and those cheaper spots do not stand behind their boots and hats the way Handley's does. Good ole Handley's Western Wear in Folsom has been a mainstay for over 30 years. Back then, Folsom city development stopped at just two blocks up from the shop and the surrounding land was cattle pastures. Anyway, fast forward to present day.The shop is still in business. That's a testament to good quality brand products (Stetson, Carhartt, Ariat, Wrangler, Levi, Pendleton, Carolina, Tony Llama), pricing, and customer service. That is what keeps me coming back. They carry buckles, baseball caps, mens work boots, mens work wear clothes, womenswear, menswear, children clothes, belts, cowboy boots, and cowboy hats. The clothes include casual wear, work wear, dresses, and baby/toddler/kids size western wear. They even offer hat steaming and belt hole punching. The staff is always welcoming and helpful. The hubs bought a Tony Llama leather belt here last month. A few weeks later, he brought it back in to get an extra hole punched. They did it for free along with another belt that he did not buy from them. Great customer service as always. read more

This local family owned business has a great deal of heart, it's the kind of place that is best on a slow day when you can stop for a while and chat. That being said it is also very well organized and efficient. I'm impressed with their thoughtful details, such as a small box of socks for children trying on boots, a bin of toys next to the work wear, and the free hat cleaning while you shop. My husband has been shopping here since he was a kid and gets nostalgic for a time when there was fields instead of a traffic light, and school. This time we stopped for Carhartt pants. Somehow he has this ability to test the limits of clothing while doing the most mundane things, sure he has plenty of clothes that have been ruined during physical labor, but what's mind boggling is his ability to wreck an item of clothing doing seemingly nothing. For example one day I saw him accidentally put his thumb through a new shirt by simply pulling it on! You may not know this but not all shops still carry quality Carhartt, my dad ordered a pair online from a different vendor that shall not be named as a gift a couple years back and they were no where near as durable. You will not have this problem at Handley's the Carhartt here is just as durable as it has always been. read more

If you are a fan of good old American values, awesome western wear, and stylish merchandise thats a lot cooler than those "Bass Pro Shops" hats- Handley's is second to none. My family and I stopped in here on a whim while traveling and I'm sure glad we did. The store has a rich heritage that the owner, who was a complete delight, explained to us, and wow: this place is one of a kind. It's been family owned for 60 years and you can tell they still run it with the same amount of pride and proactive care for the customer as they would if they had opened their doors yesterday. My wife got me one of their branded sweatshirts and hats, and my brothers liked them so much we had to place an online order to get more. You can also tell they do not sacrifice product quality for margins like so many modern stores would- every item they sell is high quality. Went to Handley's Western Wear (hadn't been in, in like 20+ years) anyway, I went there because I have noticed how much better I feel wearing western wear vs "the baggy look " originally was going to get one new pair of boots. But when I walked in, I saw two pairs of boots that caught my eye (see picture). After about an hour (or so) & numerous looks of (have you decided yet) - just kidding. They were very helpful and insistent that I take my time finding the right pair in color and size. We've done special orders (COVID slows this down, but it's not their fault) as well. We've shopped here for Christmas and birthdays. Top quality merchandise. I have shirts that I bought here 10 years ago that look like I just pulled them off the shelf. I'm a big fan of pearl-snap shirts and can always find a good selection here. Handley's is a fixture here, in Folsom, for over 50 years. There's a reason this business has lasted so long as others have peter'd out. It's not because they price undercut the competition(they don't), but likely because of the quality of their top brand products and the outstanding level of service. I am willing to pay a little more to get great service, great product, and help support local small business. Western wear (for work or show) - hats, jackets, pants, shirts ... and fabulous boot options. It's the boots that brought me in most recently. I've been having a hard time finding the boot that my wife has been describing. I really didn't think that I'd find them at Handley's either. I was wrong. To make sure I was right (I am wrong, sometimes), I opted for a gift certificate for my wife, for her to come pick out the boots herself. Nailed it! It wasn't just about the boots. No hard sell or bagging before you decide ... the service was helpful, pleasant, loaded with smiles, and very welcoming. I knew enough of what she was looking for to ask what may be simple questions. When I stepped into Handley's it was at once familiar even thought this was the first time I ever was there; it instantly conjured up memories of some of the wonderful western shops I used to know that now only exist in my memory. I went out from Sacramento to visit the store, since it's been at least 20 years from my last visit. It was nice to see their still in business after so many years. They obviously have a great loyal customer base which had lead to their longevity. However I was a bit disappointed there was not even a hello or may I help you with anything. They're were not very busy and only one other customer in the store. I browsed the shirt racks, jackets and hats and still no greeting. Despite walking by one of the ladies that worked there. Perhaps it was a bad day and I left feeling what happened to good ole customer service. So I went to boot barn and got my shirts and jacket on sale. I'm not being overly sensitive but I do recognize customer service or not. So only one star today read more
