Our toddler at the time was very shy, so her approach of play-based speech therapy was the ideal fit for a shy kiddo. He looked forward to sessions and didn't realize it was "work", but instead saw it as a fun activity where he was able to play with a variety of toys with an energetic playmate. I don't see how Mandy has the energy to play with the little ones all day, but she does--and really seems to enjoy it. The play/session environment is comfortable, welcoming, clean, and has a toy store's worth of different toys (and Mandy is always trying out new ones for the repertoire). Mandy immediately identified a structural issue that a previous formal evaluation from another speech therapist missed. Our child progressed wonderfully and is now outgoing, able to express himself clearly and with a range of vocabulary and sentence structures, and is doing advanced language and verbal work at school. Mandy has made an enormous difference in the life of my 9yo. My son has been in and out of various…read morespeech pathologist's offices since he was 4, and I could never hear or see a measurable difference in his speech until we found Mandy. The difference in a year with her is greater by far than the difference in 5 years with everyone else combined. I cannot say enough good things about our experience with her. She is incredibly effective as a speech pathologist, and the results are really clear. Even more than that, she is flexible, patient, adaptive and works with my son rather than at him. Her humor shines through steadily, and she is very kind, and my son can sense that and relaxes with her. She has specific, targeted exercises and games she goes through with him - he has only begun to figure out that the games are work - and gives us home practice in such a way that he knows what he needs to be doing and how to do it. My son can be a handful - so she works in movement breaks and tunes the games to his interests and approaches it with humor that makes him feel welcome. She gives prizes after so many stickers earned - set at a reasonable, attainable pace - and I noticed that, having figured out my son liked puzzles and stuffed animals, that the prizes being offered have quietly become things he enjoys. He vibrates for the opportunity to win them. Even the games have become quietly tuned to his needs and preferences; I've never seen so many games of Memory played. My son invented his own version of Go Fish with the articulation cards, and she went so far as to write down the rules so they could play it again. Seriously, she is *amazing*. As a note: my son went from throwing tantrums at the very idea of speech to cheerfully practicing at home and happily showing up to his speech therapy. Because she praises him for his effort and his progress and specifically what he is doing right, he can aim for that specific thing again and *believes her* when she tells him he's working and she can tell. I cannot tell you what a difference that has made. Most importantly, my son went, in less than a year, from being unintelligible unless someone had known him for years, to being a confident, talkative, outgoing kid with a lot to say. A few months in with Mandy, I stopped having to 'translate' for him. Months ago, he suddenly started talking non stop, because he could be understood and heard and participate. Before that, he only spoke that much with me, and he chose the most efficient script to short hand what he wanted to communicate, as speaking was tedious and hard work and he might have to repeat himself five times. Now, he is speaking happily and with assurance with his friends and with his teachers, and does not hesitate to step up and speak when called upon to do so. Mandy has made SUCH a difference in his life, and I am forever grateful. She is worth every penny and moment of time. I highly recommend her; you won't find a better speech pathologist.

They see a teacher in passing, wearing a mask, outdoors, for a few minutes and the kids are home two weeks and they want them in front of a screen instead of in person. No attempt to balance the benefits of in person learning and socialization against the truly minimal risk (according to leading scientific research) to children. We pulled ours out, would be a fool to go here. On the other hand, if you want to cower in a basement and wrap your kids in bubble wrap for years while everyone else goes about their normal life this is a great school for you.

However, I just have to give a warning for those of you out there who are HEALTHCARE professionals looking for a renewal class. DO NOT take this class at this school, especially with the instructor Cathy!! I am sure outside of class that Cathy is a nice enough lady, but she was the worst instructor I had ever had and I have been taking CPR for HC professionals for years in various locations. Her teaching style leaves a lot to be desired as she uses public humiliation to get her point across. Case in point, she makes every participant demonstrate in front of everyone until she is satisfied with your technique. And if you can't get it right, she will chastise you in front of your peers. Furthermore, her class is INCREDIBLY too long - we began at 830am sharp and I did not leave her class until after 130pm...and I was one of the first to be done with my written skills test. I am just sorry for those who took longer to complete the test! Adding to the incredibly long class, she took 45 minutes in the beginning of class for housekeeping....."signature here, signature there, wash your hands, let us all introduce us to each other, blah...blah" The class room is also in a very claustrophobic location, the ceiling was so low that I could touch it (I'm 5'4") and it has no windows. We also had no breaks aside from one 5 minute break for water and granola bars - which she provided, which was nice of her. But to top it off, she did not have us watch the usual video from the American Heart Association as she claimed the "machine was broken." When one of my fellow students offered up his laptop to show the DVD, she refused. I think she just wanted to hear herself drone on and on. This class took up almost my entire Saturday and went at a snail's pace for all of us who have taken the class before (i.e. renewers). I can't recommend this class as it was not a good example of a AHA sponsored class that usually takes 3 hours, tops! Avoid if possible.

I am the parent of eight children and have been using the services of Prep Matters for many, many…read moreyears. For all this time, I have been exceptionally pleased with the instruction and the results. I have, most recently utilized the services of Sunhee, an SAT tutor who has singlehandedly enabled my daughter to raise her SAT score by over 200 points. The experience of SAT test prep, which can be grueling, unpleasant and painful, has been actually enjoyable for my daughter. I think this has much to do with the relationship and rapport she has developed with Sunhee. From the first session to the last, he has been responsive, supportive, encouraging, and motivational. Sunhee is not the only tutor who has yielded exceptional results for my children. Both of my sons also used Prep Matters tutors, and I was equally and exceptionally pleased with the academic support and guidance they received. In all cases, my kids reached their target scores as a result of the instructional tips and strategies the tutors provided and were accepted into competitive colleges. I have also known Ned Johnson, the owner, for over two decades. He is an incredible person, dedicated to achieving success for all Prep Matter students. He has called me at home to discuss my kids' progress and has personally met with my kids when they have struggled academically or needed an extra boost of encouragement. He cares about each and every student who walks through his doors, remembering their names and stories long after they have graduated from high school and gone to college. Ned is an extraordinary man and the example he sets is on full display in the staff he employs. His tutors work hard to achieve results, embracing the same values inculcated by Ned. In many ways, Prep Matters feels like a family. This is a personal tutoring experience that adapts strategies specific to a child's needs. This daughter is my youngest and will close this chapter of my life. For quite a while, we've worked with math tutor Sharon Kim in the Bethesda office and absolutely LOVE her. She is really great about learning each kid's way of learning and then teaching effectively to that. Also, my son just really enjoys spending time with her and doing all the math they do. I'm super fond of her as well. We also worked very briefly with Moose in the Tenleytown office. He is a physics whiz and the brevity of our working relationship was only because my son had no teacher at school so needed guidance until one was hired. Moose was the perfect interim! I have recommended both him and Sharon many times. We have also worked with PM in the college counseling realm. Full disclosure- I have my own college counseling business, but my son and I didn't want to work together during his application process. So, we interviewed several companies and immediately chose to partner with PM's Maureen Delaney. She is wonderful, and my son loves working with her. Lastly, I'll note that Ned Johnson, founder and leader of PM, is a terrific human who is deeply committed to and knowledgeable about education, development, and adolescent. It's been a pleasure to get to know him, and I highly recommend the books he and Bill Stixrud have authored. The prices aren't low, but honestly, I feel great about paying such a caring, supportive group of people. Their help has been worth every penny!

I put my daughter on the wait list when I was 12 weeks pregnant. They had a spot for us 5 days…read moreafter she was born (timed well with a new room opening). My husband worked at the hospital so that increased our priority level. My daughter has gone from infant (age 0) to pre-toddler (age 1) to now a toddler classroom (age2). I have enjoyed all of her teachers and I feel they all truly care about her well-being. When my daughter was delayed in learning to crawl/walk, the staff was happy to practice the exercises from her physical therapists. Her pre-toddler teacher was able to make my daughter try things in order to get her out of her comfort zone. All classrooms give a daily handout of what your child eats, potty habits, how well she naps, etc. You will not receive daily photos on email as I've heard from other child cares. We have had pretty consistent teachers throughout nearly 2.5 years. If you're military, DoD, or a civilian employee with base access, you should strongly consider NSAB/CDC. The hours are changing from 5am to 7pm as of February 27. Overall I am very happy and I feel 100% comfortable leaving my daughter here.

I am a nurse case manager at WRNMMC, and my daughter (now 3) attends the CDC. I put her on the…read morewaiting list when she was a twenty week fetus, but she was unable to secure a spot until she was 18 months old. I am a contractor, so my priority was at the bottom of the list even though my husband was active duty at the time (he was stationed at Andrews AFB). With that being said, I have been very happy with the care that my daughter has received. She has always had loving providers that seem genuinely interested in her happiness and safety. Yes, the documentation for every fall, bite and bumped head is a little over the top, but I would much prefer that than having no communication at all. What I love about the CDC is that there is constant provider accountability. Your child will never be alone with any provider, there will always be a second provider in the room even if your child is the only one there. There are cameras EVERYWHERE! No one can come or go without an ID check. Even if you've been going to the CDC for 5 years and know everyone on a 1st name basis, they will still require that you show your ID before you can pass the front desk. I am a huge fan of security and accountability, and would never utilize a home daycare. I have a coworker (medical professional) who's child was being beaten in a home daycare setting for quite some time before an employee of the home daycare reported the abuse that she witnessed. It was so bad that it became a criminal case that was prosecuted by the state. The price of the care is unbeatable. I know people that are paying close to $2000 a month for daycare. I pay the max amount, which is about $670 a month. I get regular teacher conferences, review of milestone, recommendations, behavior updates etc. I have loved the teachers and providers that have taken care of my daughter. She had a teacher with a Masters in early childhood development who was incredibly creative with the lesson plans for the kids. I could go on and on about the love that has been poured on my child at that CDC. I will admit that my kid is fairly easy and one of those kids that is easy to love. However, she has had classmates that are disruptive and what I would consider difficult children. I've watched the way those kids were handled, and I've been impressed. The current director for the CDC is named Allison (I'm blanking on her last name). She is phenomenal. She is available, involved and knows all of the kids by name. I can't say enough about the service she has provided me and my child.

Most of the teachers have been there for years and they do a great job at retaining teachers year over year. My daughter absolutely loves the teachers and runs into the classroom when we drop her off. She talks about the teachers and friends at home often. My daughter's vocabulary, speaking ability, social interactions have improved so much since she joined TOTH. They also help with potty training from day 1 and at 2.5 my daughter is potty-trained and almost entirely independent with the bathroom. They also did an awesome job at navigating COVID and had minimal classroom closures and no major outbreaks in her classroom. TOTH also has an attached playground and they prioritize spending time outdoors, which my daughter loves. They go on long walks and do not use any carriers which is awesome because we can now go on short hikes or museums without a stroller. We couldn't ask for a better learning facility, TOTH is her home away from home.
