I live an hour and a half from the studio where my granddaughter and I painted together. Our projects are ready to be picked up, and I've been trying to find 3 hours to come get them. Alyssa to the rescue! My daughter offered to pick them up but since they're Christmas gifts, my granddaughter, who is 7, was pretty upset that her mom would see her gift. They could have wrapped everything in newsprint, tossed it in a box and said see ya later (which constitutes customer service at so many places). Instead, the two Christmas gifts will be in gift bags with tissue and ribbon and they can just put them under the tree! Do the world a favor and start another business teaching retail companies how to treat their customers! We won't ever paint anywhere else, it's worth the drive! read more

A friend and I went this past week and unfortunately read the appointment time wrong, but they were super understanding and accommodating! We felt so bad but they were super sweet about it! We had a blast painting pottery and it felt safe and clean. They had sanitized bottles and provided hand sanitizer and dividers between tables. Very great place and lovely people! read more

Hands On Pottery is great for everyone. I prefer this location to the one in Darien, it's a bit more open and I didn't feel as cramped. It can get pricey very fast, especially with lots of people but the end result is awesome. I work with kids and have had them make presents for theirs parents here numerous times and they are always a huge hit. The staff is always super accommodating and very friendly offering advice and tips. At this location and the Darien one all of the staff members I have encountered have been extremely patient and understanding with children with is a super plus. read more

What a great way for four kids ranging from 9 to 14 to all have a great time! They truly get to create and be inspired! The employees are professional, helpful and so patient. They make the kids feel great and give such good feedback to make sure they will be happy with their finished product. While somewhat pricey, studio time + cost of item chosen, and a 3-4 day wait to pick up your finished product, it was well worth the investment if money and time. The kids are delighted and all chose things they actually are using (NOT JUST BANKS!)--switch plates, mug, keepsake box and post it note holder this time...I have a great kitchen collection of napkin holder, spoon rests and salt/pepper shakers too! One and half years ago I attended Hands On Pottery in Fairfield and made a few items with my granddaughter, one of which was a Friends-type large coffee cup. One morning I was drinking coffee and the handle fell completely off causing the coffee to spill over my Macbook computer destroying it. Not a cheap machine. I had to replace it for $2,000. I took photos of a rug that was ruined, the cup and my computer and called the company. They hemmed and hawed and offered me a free sitting in their place and nothing more. The handle literally broke off from the cup in my hands in thin air. I didn't bump it or do anything to it. It was clearly too small for the size of the cup with the weight of some coffee or it wasn't attached properly. For sentimental reasons I kept the cup part and drink from it. I have put it through the dishwasher many times and it remains standing and just as solvent as day one. Oh, and btw, just got a jumbo coffee cup from Disney about the same size and the handle is about twice the size to accommodate the weight of the cup. read more

I'm not an artsy type but went here today with the gf and her cousin and we had a good experience. The staff was very helpful and professional, and it was a fun thing. Only knock I have is it seems expensive. Then again I'm not artsy like I said so maybe the masterpiece I created will one day be worth more than what we paid read more

I'm 43, and I thought this was a fantastic activity. The sky's the limit in terms of creativity potential, they play great music, and it's a relaxing atmosphere. I agree with one critic who said the brushes could use a little updating, but apart from that, it's a fabulous indoor activity. read more

We received a gift certificate for this place and thought it would be a great way for our two children to do some fun crafting on a cold wintery day. When we arrived it was very confusing, not much in the way of direction from anyone that worked there. They were having a birthday party in the back and clearly that was the priority. We wandered around with the rest of the clueless parents for someone to actually explain to us the way things work. After picking out the pottery we then went up to pick out paint colors, which was also very disorganized. There was no explanation of what was available to us, we had to wander around and find stencils and stamps only after seeing other people using them. All of the brushes have seen their day, and there were no new ones to be found. And then after cashing out we find out that not only do you pay for each pottery piece but there is an additional "studio fee" of $8 per person per hour, for a total of over $100.00. Although it is a great concept, I will not be back due to the lack of help from the staff and the cost. read more

This is tough because I love this concept, have mostly encountered nice people working here, and I once met the owner who was super friendly and had great energy, but recently I was there for a child's birthday party and one of the employees is clearly in the wrong business. She was in charge of running the party but I'm pretty sure she doesn't like kids. She didn't smile once, acted like everyone there was in her way, and rudely shushed the children when they were chanting in excitement over cake. Is this a library or an art studio that hosts child's bday parties?! I watched her be rude and unfriendly to outside customers picking up their pottery as well. After reading another review it seems the owners really need to be more careful with who they hire. If I were the paying mom of the party I would've been furious that that's who I got. Try being a little pleasant if you're going to take a job that interacts with kids. The second girl working may have been a nice girl but I can't say for sure, she stood silently waiting for something to do most of the time. Probably afraid to get in the way of the wicked witch. read more

So disappointed! I used to love Hands on Pottery, but just had the worst experience. The brushes were so old and frayed they would not paint properly and the squeeze tubes full of glopy paint. When mentioned to the two YOUNG girls working (more than once I might add), all they said was, "I'm sorry." Didn't even try to find me brushes that hadn't seen their prime MONTHS ago or put fresh paint in the bottles. I will NOT be back. A waste of almost $100. Too expensive for inferior quality. read more
