My son and I went for a three-hour expedition on Captain Tom's 38-ft catamaran and we loved it. A couple miles out we cut the motor and never needed it again until we docked. We had asked to learn as much about sailing as we could, so we got to work crewing the boat, hoisting sails, tying knots, manning the rudder, and learning what "lower the boom" means. Under supervision, my son and I sailed all the way back, keeping the sails trimmed and the heading aligned with our waypoints. Great fun. It was wonderful to be out in the quiet where the only sounds are the hull slicing through the waves and the sheets in the wind. Saw lots of dolphins, too. The Captain is a character, friendly as all get out, and happy to explain anything that you might be curious about. He's passionate about conservation and the environment, and he knows the history of boating and the bay. I'm not sure where to begin. We had such a memorable time. I was hoping to see dolphins and roseate spoonbills and I was not disappointed! Captain Thomas was delightful and did a great job making sure we saw plenty of wildlife. We cruised close to a rookery and a large flock of roseate spoonbills took flight. It was a truly awe inspiring sight. I've seen other reviews complaining about the boat but I didn't book this sailing trip to pussyfoot around in a yacht. We all got to help with boat a little bit and we got fantastic photos. It was a super fun and relaxing excursion. read more

I booked with the HSYC for my partners 30th birthday. The captain had to reschedule us due to a booking mistake and we weren't able to do it on the actual birthday like I had planned. However, they compensated us for the inconvenience by giving us another hour on the boat, which we spent at a private island. The captain was very nice and knowledgeable, although his crew hand wasn't. He had to keep correcting him throughout our entire trip which made me nervous and uncomfortable , but in the end it was all good. I've lived in CC my whole life and had never experienced something like this. I would love to do it again. The boat was a bit old like the other reviews said, but it was such a SMOOTH ride. A wonderful getaway worth every penny. Highly recommend! read more

My family and I had a great time with Capt. Tom. The boat is older and the location could be more scenic, but for the money I was more than satified. If you are looking for pristine shores and a stunning yacht, you need to look elsewhere and bring a lot more money. Tom works hard to make sure everyone feels at ease and has a good time. I will definitely be back and highly recommend Handsome Sailor for anyone in the Port A area and want a cool little adventure for the family. If you bring kids, they will get some time at the helm. I've been on a few of Tom's charters and can say by far he gives you the best bang for the buck. Bring your own food , even drink if you like. Pilot the boat or just kick back and enjoy the trip.. very relaxing. Tom makes every effort possible to make it a safe, enjoyable trip. Why is it that anything that has to do with boating seems to always have a bob marley soundtrack???? This boat ride was at maximum o.k. the boat is a 15 year old catamarran. There is no shade save a couple of seats next to the captain and his wife. We were expecting to go out and sail along a barrier island and collect seashells but instead found the cruise would keep us within the bay and that we would be visiting an "island" that was also accessible to others by 4 wheel drive. We were expecting to be able to picnic on the beach and hang out but we couldn't and once we got to the beach we really didn't even want to stay on it, we wanted to get back on the boat and go home. The highlight of the ride was the toilet we found onshore amongst all the seashells. I suggest spending more money and going on a better boat. read more

The boat is definitely not a sailboat. It is a very old Hobie Cat rebuilt with 2x4 wooden planks. There is no shade on the boat so it makes for a very long, hot 3 hours. read more

If you have never been on a sailboat before, this may be "o.k.". Other than that, the capt. is an egomaniac that hates doctors (aka- his ex-wife), talks too much and is boorish. He hinted early on about tipping when the price of the trip is over-valued. He is pretty intolerant. I really feel sorry for the guy, but more especially his wife, who has to tolerate his motor-mouth and ascerbic comments. The good side-- the fajitas were tasty, they try to be nice, he does try to include the passengers in the sailing... but barely.. In a nutshell: the whole trip is emotionally tiring. read more
