I had an adult issue and I needed to solve in like an adult. By having someone else fix it. I know my strengths. I'm not very handy and I don't have the wherewithal to sit, watch, digest, and replicate YouTube videos. So, without much else to go on than knowing my need, I went on to the Jelps to look for a plumber. I found Tommy. I sent him an email and detailed my issue. He got back to me promptly, identified the issue, sent me an estimate, and a time he could show up to fix the problem. Easy. He showed up at exactly the time he said he would, introduced himself, went through the general niceties, and got to work in the kitchen. The problem was what he thought it was and he had the tools and replacement parts at the ready. It made it easy that parts, labor, time, etc. were all inclusive in the estimate. There were no surprise costs even when/if the problem could take a bit longer to fix than necessary. Tommy got me back to where I needed to be with a new part, reminder to send in the warranty, and a sink that was fully functional. He cleaned up all his mess and took it with him (rather than have me deal with the detritus. Years later, his card is still on top of my desk. I don't want to ever lose his contact.

His crew used a mechanical trenching machine that broke my sewer line, and rather than informing me, they covered it up with bricks, gravel, and dirt, leading to major plumbing failures over time. Upon further investigation, I discovered that The Nashville Handyman is not licensed to perform this type of work, which is illegal in Tennessee under T.C.A. § 62-6-503. The law states that unlicensed contractors may be held liable for treble damages--triple the actual repair costs. Even after being presented with undeniable evidence, they refused to fully take responsibility for the damages they caused. If you care about your home and finances, avoid this company. Always hire a licensed and reputable contractor instead.
