We completed an attic addition (master bedroom, closet, bathroom, and office) and kitchen renovation on our Inglewood home. We couldn't be more pleased with the results. We have worked with a variety of contractors and Stratton exceeds them all. Are they the cheapest in town? No. But we have learned that a cheap quote doesn't equal the pain and strife of dealing with a whole lot of issues along the way. Stratton is professional, responsive, and quality. They always did what the said they would and let us know if there are delays and issues. We did go over budget and timeframe, but that's hard not to do when you are renovating in 2021. Special shout-out to Scott the Project Manager who is the easiest person to communicate with and an all around pleasant person. Terrible experience with this company - Irresponsible, Dishonest, Unprofessional! I usually don't write a review but I made up my mind to share our experience building a home with Stratton to protect other customers. It was our biggest regret choosing this company and we are still having issues with our new construction home after a year after moving in. - Dishonest: when they get our home building contract, they invited us to the office with wine and foods saying "yes sir, yes sir" and trying to please us. A few months later, Shane didn't even get involved in the process at all and the contractor didn't have any plan in advance, we had to ask what's the next step and what we need to do all the time. The contractor told us week by week and mostly we needed to buy things from Home depot (cheap stuff) not ordering ones we would like to actually put in our house. They put dirts and chemicals in a brand new bathtub for several months even though we pointed them to possibly clean to avoid stains. Of course, they didn't do anything for several months and there was nasty stains inside the tub. They never replace it. - The contractor who had worked with us for 10+ months suddenly left right before we moved in. We had to change and push our moving in dates three times. After he left, the new contractor asked us for more contractor fee to take care of the same remaining work the first contractor didn't complete. They failed plumbing inspections 2-3 times with poor work. Their plumber installed dishwasher incorrectly and damaged the hardwood floor. They never fixed it. After we moved in, we asked the remaining issues, Shane and the new contractor admitted to fix, but never happened. They didn't follow up any remaining work at all and told us to contact subcontractor directly. Almost a year after we moved in this new home, we still have to deal with problems here and there. The remaining work such as drafty windows, incomplete finance (no refund) and they just didn't respond to us. Our experience to communicate was terrible and their email response was very short and rude, which was totally different from the first day they tried to get the contract. - We found the floor tilted from one side to the other (about 2-3 inches difference at the entrance and the half of the first floor) after all the floor was finished. They never noticed (How can't?) until we told them so. We couldn't redo the entire first floor as we had to redo all the house again after almost 8+ months of work. Terrible work in a brand new home. - Their finance person got replaced and the next person asked us to hold any invoices for a few months. We didn't get the refund of kitchen faucets (around $900+) as they couldn't find any document from Ferguson. Even the new finance person admitted that she couldn't know anything as the previous person just left. She never got back to us for the refund. When I emailed several times, they never responded; when I called them, the office manager put me on hold of 15+ minutes and I had to hung up. she didn't get back to me. We still didn't get the money back. A few points I wrote here was only a tip of the iceberg. The list will be endless. I just decided to report here so that contractors like this company shouldn't take advantage of any more innocent customers like us. We are still suffering to deal with problems in the house we had dreamed to build after long years of preparation. read more

AVOID THIS BUSINESS They do not answer phone calls. They do not return voicemails. They do not respond to email queries. After weeks of trying to contact them regarding doors, the office manager eventually responded. Upon asking about doors (their website directly states they sell doors and have many different door products available), the office manager stated they do not sell doors. Clearly the office manager is someone who chooses not to work, and is someone who has zero interest in acquiring customers or sales. The biggest mistake that I've ever had in my life was hiring Stratton Exteriors to rebuild our tornado ravaged home. After agreeing to repair our home for what the insurance company said they would pay, Stratton overcharged by twice as much on some work for slow, shoddy work by low skilled workers. The roof they put on leaked doing serious damage to the interior. Shane Stratton bragged to his office workers how he was taking advantage of elderly gullible victims of the tornado. When I called to ask him a few questions about the job, he cussed me out and hung up. He also refused to meet me in person. One of the project managers also flat out lied to us. I've never dealt with a more unscrupulous company. Do yourself a favor, AVOID THIS COMPANY!!! read more

I should have read more reviews before contacting this company. We paid $250 for a consultation that amounted to nothing more than a visit to our home to take yard measurements. Then to be told what "he" was going to build - which was not even close to what we had discussed over the phone. The nerve to take a customer's money, show up at their property and tell them what "you" are going to build & not even be willing to discuss what they want. It was bait and switch. We hired Stratton Exteriors for a fairly major, relatively expensive, and mostly interior residential project. From the quoting process to final completion, the project was fraught with issues---computation error in original bid, staff member who executed the contract mystifyingly left the company at the onset of our project, major delays, shoddy workmanship, and total lack of professionalism, to name a few. Assuming the best, I would say that Shane is simply out of his league when it comes to things beyond decks and siding repair (although even the siding work that happened on our house had issues). It seems to me that he also lacks the critical thought to manage a business smoothly and in times of intense customer need. Though I'd love to run through a litany of grievances I have, I'll simply say this---save yourself the migraine of a headache, and avoid using Stratton Exteriors at all costs. For anything. Period. Had a very positive experience having Stratton do a one room addition for me. In spite of the job being relatively small, it was difficult because it was to be a seamless addition to an old 1930 house. The job also required the addition of a masonry wood burning fireplace which is a bit unusual. I worked with Corey, the project manager, and he handled any issue that arose with a calm reassurance that everything would be fine. The sub work was all done expertly and the only reason I haven't given Stratton five stars is that the work was completed a little over the anticipated date. I don't blame Stratton totally for this as getting the subs during the holidays to this rather small job was not easy, I'm certain. At any rate, yes, I am a fan. read more

I cannot recommend Stratton Exteriors for any construction project until it--or its owner, Shane Stratton (who is the entire company, as far as I can tell)--work to improve in five areas. I shall provide an example of each area, but there are more examples that I could describe. 1. COMMUNICATION WITH CLIENTS & WORKERS: When the concrete men were almost finished pouring the concrete, my wife & I discovered that they hadn't followed the diagram that we had given to Stratton two weeks before. They had followed it partly, but they thought that they were already finished. We caught them in the nick of time, brought out our original drawing, showed them what we wanted, talked it over with them, and got--more or less--the concrete that we wanted for both the garage and the sidewalk around it while also preventing them from blocking the conduits for the plumbing and the electricity between the house and the garage. When we initially went over the entire project with Stratton, he told us that he would make sure that the concrete men, the plumber, and electrician would stay in communication, but the concrete men didn't know about the electrician's needs and the electrician didn't know when the concrete would be poured. Another example of Stratton's poor communication skills: We frequently asked for a calendar so as to know which workmen would show up when, to know when we could expect different parts of the project to be completed, to know when we should move our cars onto the lawn, and to know on which days we would be awakened at 7:00 with requests to get into the house. Stratton never gave us a calendar. Indeed, he seldom even gave us twelve hours' notice of the arrival of workmen--such notice came, the few times that it did--by text, without any explanation of what these workmen would need from us. Stratton told us that he didn't provide a calendar, because his clients "shouldn't expect hand-holding". 2. RESPONSIBILITY: Every time that we had to call Stratton about some of the work, such as the failed inspection or the three weeks when the garage sat half-finished, it was never his fault. It was always someone else's fault. The garage failed inspection, because the door hadn't been installed. Why did he schedule an inspection contingent on the garage door before it had even arrived? We're still wondering, but he never took any responsibility. Indeed, he blamed us for ordering too "special" a door and then asked for an advance on the payment due after a passed inspection. If you do make the mistake of hiring Stratton, then do not hold your breath waiting for an "I'm sorry" or "It's my fault. I'll be right on it". Such words never pass his lips, and you will die of asphyxiation. He will then step over your body and blame you for being in the way of his project--and then demand another payment. 3. FOLLOW-THROUGH: A small matter but telling: When the garage was almost done, Stratton asked us where we wanted the pull-down ladder for the small loft. We decided on the side away from the human-door. Stratton said, "No problem". Four days later, he sent us a text: Unfortunately, the electrician had run the wiring on that side so the pull-down would be on the side near the human-door. He had pretended to supply what we requested but hadn't bothered to inform the electrician. 4. ATTENTION TO DETAIL: Before Stratton had even completed the job, we received a bill for final payment. When we pointed out that the amount demanded on the final bill was incorrect by $400, and that all specifications in the contract had not been met, Stratton insisted that the amount was correct and that the job was complete. (He then began calling every five minutes for a solid hour, but that's another story.) We pointed out both some of the specifications still lacking and the amount that we actually owed. Stratton did some of the work and changed the bill, but referred to both of these matters as "surprises". They weren't surprises. They were in the contract. 5. HONESTY: All of the above incidents and many more show a problem of honesty. As one of my students said, "Well, honesty runs through the whole thing, doesn't it?" Stratton left us a garage floor covered in sheared nails and claimed that he had performed a clean-up. When I told him that the final payment would not be ready at the precise moment when he wanted it, he began shouting about lawyers and telling us that he still had keys to our garage. When I asked for an explanation of his promised "lifetime workmanship warranty", he refused to supply one. We could "trust him". I'm afraid that I cannot trust him, and I cannot recommend that anyone else do so. It is evident that Stratton's acquaintance with the truth is more of a passing acquaintance. Until Stratton Exteriors improves significantly in these five areas, I cannot advise anyone to hire this company. read more

We had our wood soffits covered by Shane in June. He was very pleasant to work with and responsive, particularly via email and text, which I prefer. The job was completed quicker than he expected and was cheaper than the first estimate we got from another company. We have an enormous amount of landscaping they had to work around. A small bit of tiny debris remained here and there, but 99% was left just like it was before they began. I expected to have at least one broken bush or something, but all was good. Residential renovation projects are not always the most glamorous projects, but they are usually the most challenging. Our exterior project was exactly that. Shane and the his subcontractors at Stratton Exteriors did a wonderful job coordinating multiple projects to the exterior of our home. Our project consisted of demo and replacement of 30 yr old front porch columns, replacing numerous exterior fascia boards and trim pieces, new gutters, window repair and painting of the entire story floor which was done approximately 25 feet in the air at all times. This was not the easiest project a residential company could undertake, but Stratton Exteriors completed the project in a timely and professional manor with a high level of quality. Hats off as well for Shane's constant communication. I was kept well informed of daily activities and any changes that needed to take place. Recently I took the plunge and had 'face lift' on my home's exterior. I choose Stratton . to perform the upgrades which included: remove and replace siding with insulated siding, remove and install new windows, install new gutters, garage door and entry door. Also, the back porch (partial screened) was rebuilt and new columns/railing were installed on the front porch. I feel like I have a new house without the move. Shane was prompt, informative and helpful with material and color selection. Cory, the PM, was always in touch whether it be via in person, phone or text to communicate activities or answer my questions. He was courteous and patient with me as I always have questions (cannot help it). Also, he was very good with explanations of 'why' things were done a certain way. All the above mentioned work was competed within a month. My house looks awesome! I have received many many compliments. If your home has siding and windows approaching 30 years old... I highly recommend replacing with Alside and using Stratton Exteriors to get the job done. read more
