We hired Handy Husband to do several jobs in our bathroom. First the pros. They did a good job. Now the cons. They charge by the hour and our charges came out to be 30% more than the estimate we were given. I will never hire a company that charges by the hour again because you are at their mercy. I offered to send pictures in order to get the most accurate estimate possible but Lou assured me that pictures were not necessary. I am sure that Lou will say, "the job was more complicated than expected" and what can the home owner do?? Nothing. I should have known that his hourly estimate would not be accurate, I should have assumed that his charges would be 30% more than quoted (isn't that the rule of thumb when dealing with any home builder??) and I should have assumed that any job (as any wife knows) performed by a "Handy Husband" WILL be more complicated and more expensive than expected. read more

Shaun and Juan arrived early when they had a cancellation that day. They had a very busy schedule and had to reschedule a couple of times, so prepare to be flexible, with which I was OK. I had an interior vaulted ceiling sheetrock repair, several cracks in the sheetrock in the living room, an exterior doorframe that was rotting and needed to be repaired and resealed, a couple of areas in the exterior wood overhang that needed resealing and a ceiling fan that needed rebalancing. All work was done expeditiously and expertly and they were OK with my concerns and were accepting of my insistent oversight. Juan was a master at repairing the sheetrock as I cannot even tell where the repairs were done. The ceiling work was considerably high up and Juan had to maintain good balance to reach the repair area. I considered the charges reasonable; they worked about four hours and there were some additional material charges. I was charged by the hour as they advertised and there was no additional surcharge for a two-man team. I have additional work that needs to be done and I plan to use them again. read more

My handy man just left and I was very upset from the service I received. I had three things that needed to be fixed and it took him 4 hours!! 1) change a light fixture 2) cut out a piece of wood that was barley 3 feet long 3) anchor a loose shower rod It took him an hour and 15 minutes to do light fixture. It had no ceiling fan.. Just a light. He looked lost and confused as to how to do it. I wasn't sure if he had ever done one. Then with the shower rod. He ended up cutting into the drywall and plastering it so now I have to go get paint and paint over this wall. Another chore for me to do, great! If I had known it would take an hour and a half to anchor this rod, I would have said forget it! He had already started doing it without my knowledge. Finally he cut the piece of wood and it was just ok. Not even that perfect. At this point I just wanted him to leave. This is was not worth $360! Finally, he didn't really clean up the mess he made. I've known Lou for years and know him to be a man of integrity, but it's been about 10 years since I had last used The Handy Husband for any work. I have a very heavy 8' sliding glass door that is over 50 years old and needed someone to replace the wheels under the door. Kit came out and did an amazing job. He didn't charge me for the "learning curve" and once he was finished the door is working better than it has in the 32 years I have lived in this house! After reading some of the other reviews I echo Kunai G. Shaun repaired several items in my home, they were done quickly (1-hour) and professionally. However when I finally received the invoice it was double the amount I expected. When I emailed with Lou about it, while he did amend the invoice to a 1-hour charge, he was very unprofessional and rude and I too was told "I believed you short changed us. I have no qualms about firing what I consider a bad customer, which I believe you are. If Shaun said he was there for 2 hours and did quality work, I have no idea why you would question that. We did you a favor, a kind act to accommodate you on Saturday. We won't do it anymore for anyone now. You lost a company that reached out to you at every turn. Had an outstanding technician and worked on Saturday just for you. Call me rude, call me unprofessional for actually stating the obvious which you don't want to hear. Do not call us again". The guy was fast and finished the job in 1 hr, but after he left I noticed that the door knob screws were loose and it was not aligned properly. He came back after 2 days and fixed it. In the end everything was well done! But then I was charged for 1.5hrs, when I texted and emailed about the discrepancy they updated the invoice and charged me for 1 hr but in a very rude and unprofessional way.. I live in L.A. and am the administrator of an estate in Marietta and have recently needed some work done at the property. When you need repairs done and are looking for a reputable handyman it's kind of like looking for a plumber that won't rip you off . Kit, Shawn and Lou were all great to work with, polite and very professional Their prices and rates are very reasonable and are a pleasure to work with. I once gave them a laundry list of work that I needed done and when my tenant decided to give them additional unauthorized work to do, which I would have to pay for, they had the decency and integrity to call me beforehand to see if I wanted that work done. That speaks volume of character and integrity. In short I would highly recommend them. Thx guys! read more

I wanted to be able to write a better review, and some parts of the project deserve positive feedback, but unfortunately I can't recommend Handy Husband to other customers. They installed a new vanity and replaced bathroom tiles for us. The tiles and vanity look good. However, when the job was first "completed," the pipe under the sink was leaking, a section of drywall was not replaced (this was included in our original contract), the door to the bathroom was not replaced (it was left in another room of our home), the bathroom shades were not replaced (left on our bedroom floor), and tools and shards of broken tiles were left in our shower. To his credit, the worker returned to correct most of these issues. Unfortunately, the installed pipe continued to leak. By this point the worker seemed to be upset with us for needing to come back again, as though it was our fault that the pipes he installed continued to leak. On the third try it was fixed. Then we realized that there was no hot water. This was because they had left the hot water valve off. When turned on, water leaked from the back of the faucet down into the cabinet space. Again to his credit, the worker returned and told us the problem was a defective faucet. He kindly offered to reinstall the faucet if we got a new one. By the time it arrived they had already been paid, and now they are refusing to follow through on their offer to reinstall it. I don't even mind this so much...it wasn't their fault the faucet was defective...but there was such a tone of hostility and unprofessionalism in their refusal that I just felt disappointed in the end. Anyways, you may find their work to be adequate if everything goes smoothly, but I can't recommend them to friends or family. If you choose them, I hope your experience is better. read more

Handy Husband has done work for me before installing 2 vanities and a toilet (Kit a great job,) so I knew I could call them in for this job. From the beginning Home Depot did a very poor job helping me get the doors I ordered. Fast forward to me standing in Home Depot at 9pm the night before the job was to begin being told not ONLY did they not have the doors I ordered, but they were unavailable. I called Lou while still in Home Depot, fully expecting it to take weeks for the doors to arrive and Handy Husband to install. Instead Lou (and Shaun who was doing the actual work) immediately kicked into gear, found me doors THAT NIGHT, Shaun picked them up the next day and was at my house promptly to install. The installation itself had many twists and turns. Doorways wonky and Shaun had to do some interesting build outs to get the doors to fit my existing doorways. He was pleasant, and more importantly, kept me informed all the way so I knew what was happening. The price seemed reasonable to me and Lou has told me I will be able to order doors from their supplier in the future, saving some money in materials. The hourly rate for this job turned out to be around $65/hr, which was worth every penny. I overheard Shaun saying to the guy working with him, "We are going to make sure it's done right, so let's make sure we....." If you are looking for the lowest price you can find, they may not be your guys, but if you want the work done RIGHT, they most certainly are. If you pay for poor quality work, that's what you get and you won't save any money in the long run from having to get poor work redone. I say get it done right the first time. I can't say enough about Handy Husbands. I'll be getting 8 more interior doors installed soon and I'm already looking around to see what else I need done around the house! read more

The technician did a good job installing the 2 bathroom fans I'd purchased. However, I was disappointed with the cleanup, or lack there of, once he completed the job. It looked like no attempt was made at cleaning up after cutting the drywall in the bathroom and the insulation in the attic was pulled back during the install, but not put back when they finished. Again, the actual work seems to be fine, but the lack of cleanup just left me a little disappointed. read more

I own the unit but don't live in Atlanta anymore and he coordinated it all and found out it was not my unit causing the leak into the unit below. I called 3 companies for a recent job - Casteel and Aaron's charge a $39 fee and seemed very nice and were willing to come that morning. I spoke to the guy at Handy Husband and he was nice enough - answered the phone using my name - but they were fully booked and could only come the next day - I don't like that he told me that he thought competitors would charge me a $149 call out fee... he was quite surprised that it was $39 - my point is if you don't know then there is no need to say anything - just think about your own business... anyway horses for courses I am sure HH are great for the right person... read more

Handy Husband started out being very responsive. They created a plan for my home over the phone and ask I send pictures to give me a proper quote. After two days, they retracted everything we previous discussed with a "We're going to pass..." There was no visit to home before deciding they could not/would not perform the job. A more sincere rejection would have been more acceptable. Considering their reviews, I would have liked to use them in the future. I've used them for several small&medium jobs around the house- garbage disposal/toilet innards/install window unit (had to do some wood work for it as well) - and they've done great every time! Kit makes a point to teach me how/why certain things are being done and advice for how to do small repairs myself. Also, very patient and caring with the elderly couple, both with Alzheimer's, that I live with. He makes an effort to be sure they're comfortable with him being in the house and the work being done. The man he sent over was completely professional and did a great job. He asked for my input along the way, to make sure I agreed with the placement of wall decor and also to check his work on other items. He was fast and thorough. Their rates were reasonable too. They were very professional from the time I called to book am appointment until after my work was fixed. Price is fair for the market. I called to have a clogged sink fixed. I know. I know. Something so simple to fix. The handyman showed my how to make that simple fix myself. He fixed the issue in ten minutes. Since he had time left (they charge by the hour) I asked him some other questions and he gave me advice on how to get those issues corrected. I've used Handy Husband several times. The work is great, and the customer service is even better. I contacted them after an attempted break-in left me with a smashed back door and an unsecured house. Lou was able to get someone out the next day, and the repairman went above and beyond -- not only installing my new back door, but also repairing the security door (which had not been functional since I moved in). This is the only number I keep on hand for things around the house. I wouldn't dream of calling anyone else. read more
