Estimate given in writing and signed but then contractor wanted more money and left without speaking to me. I did not know if he was coming back so waited. Called company to ask and they said he would call me back but no call. Next day they said he was busy on another job and did I want someone to come and give me a new estimate. This company is deceitful. Avoid at all costs. Go to your local home depot for legitimate contractors. They provided no breakdown of how they conduct their estimates. read more

Well that was a fruitless effort. No fruit, no follow up or estimate. Initially the Handyman Connection craftsman called to say he couldn't make the appointment; car problems. Strange that; we had never spoken or agreed to an appointment. Ok no problem; we agreed on a date and time; the following Saturday. He arrived and viewed the work that I had requested; installing a banisher and hand rail to the downstairs TV room. (I sent pictures of what then job would entail.) The first indication that perhaps he wasn't the experienced craftsman that was advertised was that he didn't know which end of the spindles were to be counter sunk into the stairs. Second he didn't know that spindles come in two sizes; the one at the back of the stair is longer. And finally he struggled to figure out how to fix the newel posts to the top and bottom stairs. Of course my concern was in the red so I asked, "ah, how long do you think the job will take?" He bolted; up the stairs, down the hall and out the front door. Before closing the door he said over his shoulder, " I'll send an estimate". So one week passes then a second. I contacted the Handyman Connection to find out the status of my work request and the estimate and received the following reply: Our craftsman did report to the office that he felt uncomfortable at your home during the estimate appointment. He did not elaborate but said he would not be providing a cost for work. Unfortunately, we don't have another craftsman comfortable with the spindle aspect of your job. At this time we will be unable to help with your project. I do apologize for any inconvenience. After I calmed down and thought about what occurred during the visit he obviously felt uncomfortable working in my home because he didn't know how to do the job. Also I found "uncomfortable working in my home" insulting. Heavens to murgatroyds; we are retired professionals with a small dog. During the initial contact with Handyman Connection I listed several other jobs that I hoped they could undertake; repairs to the garage floor, replacement of a ceiling fan, resetting the front steps etc. Me thinks I'll look elsewhere... read more

Jennifer said that thay do not charge per hour, just buy the job, but she will never tell you that the minimum they charge is approx $135. It takes 5 min or less to replace kitchen faucet cartridge and I payed $152.55. The BIGGEST SCUM EVER!! Shocking truly shocking! It is a shame and disgrace to take financial advantage of hard working citizens to that extend!! This handyman try to explain that thay will make more money doing construction that the service call. So, looks like this is the reason why the citizens are being ripped off to the unprecedented level!!! NEVER EVER CALL THIS COMPANY, unless you do not respect your hard earned money. Terrible Company I would advise people not to use them. I needed some work done in my bathroom and two interior doors installed. I was supplying all materials so the quote was only for labour. I waited six weeks to receive the quote and probably would still be waiting if I hadn't finally called the company. The quote did not include all the work I had mentioned I needed done. I really truly believed it was a joke or the person did not want to do the job as the charge was $5003. I ended up going with a well known Company who did everything I required for $1554. They did it very very well and I was more than pleased. Since then I have heard of someone else with almost the identical situation as mine. Just because they call their Handymen "Craftsmen" they think they can overcharge everyone, including senior citizens. read more

Please be advised that this company charges over a 100.00 $ per/hr. They try and tell you that it is by the Job--but this is miss leading to say the least. Their workers are part time labor, that have little to no vetting. read more

I would never use them again and definitely not recommend them They are not interested in the quality of their work or in what they are expected to do .all they want is the money and they even charge for materials that was not used on the job. A very BAD experience read more

It took them a week to send the handyman to me and they wouldn't tell me anything about him beforehand (price, skill level etc). When he finally came, he couldn't start on the same day, as they had promised me. In the end, it was just as well, because he quoted me $880 for some very basic repairs (filling holes from pictures in the wall, replacing the shower curtain rail and similar) which he said would take "the best part of a day". Even if that were the case, his rate is still more than $100 per hour! I had all the materials already, and I didn't want to wait any longer, so I ended up doing almost all the tasks myself - and that took me 3 hours. Believe me, I'm not a handy person! I then hired an electrician for $60 who completed the final task. When I called to complain about the price, I was told "our Craftsmen don't quote by the hour" - as if giving a rate per day makes the ludicrous price more reasonable! Steer well clear of this company - get a recommendation from your friends instead. read more
