First of all, I want to thank my fellow Yelpers for helping us choose our roofer. That is what…read morewe're here for after all, right? Our roof was really a mess. (I wish I had a "before" picture. Boy, was it ugly!) My husband and I are terrible procrastinators, but we just couldn't put it off any longer. Rather than getting multiple quotes, I trusted all these 5-star ratings and hired Dalex. No regrets whatsoever. After Dimitriy made his inspection, he explained what we needed and made suggestions on improvements, then presented a detailed proposal. Everything was carried out exactly as outlined in the contract. The crew arrived first thing in the morning, big boss Alex stopped by in the afternoon to make sure everything was going well, and by 8 p.m. they were packed up and ready to pull out, leaving our driveway and yard even cleaner than it was before. To say nothing of that gorgeous new roof!

He wouldn't even look at my roof without charging me. His time may be valuable, but so is my hard earned cash, which his company clearly did not want. Happy to take my business elsewhere and not give thousands of dollars to someone who speaks so rudely to a potential customer.

Five Star Roofing was our fourth and final estimate for a full tear off. Rick came to our home as…read morescheduled, and inspected the roof as part of the estimate process. Approximately 7-10 days later, he made an appointment with us to stop by and review the quote with us. During this meeting, Rick did a thorough presentation and spent much of the time talking about what products would be used to replace our roof and specifically spent time discussing the roof vents/caps. He also spent a good amount of time talking about "old roofs" and where they "usually begin to leak." We were grateful we had NEVER had a leak but listened as he was explaining that on old roofs like ours, leaks are "almost always noted at the exhaust vents in a bathroom." Ironically, about 2 weeks later, after a rainstorm, we started to have a leak in our upstairs bathroom in the "exact spot" he mentioned. When my husband got up on the roof to see why we had a leak, it was clear that the shingles were torn off at the exhaust fan, allowing water to seep into our attic and consequently our bathroom. We also noted a leak via a recessed light in our bedroom. As you might imagine, the shingles were torn off above this spot as well - leaving an open gap in our roof. Pretty sure this was a "sales ploy," and it was expected that when the next rain occurred, we would call him in a panic to secure the roofing deal (proving him an "expert in leaks" in the exact spot he warned us about.) He also probably thought we would never note the shingles being torn off because he would be the one "fixing" the roof. Terrible way to get a sale - not sure how he rests his head at night! If possible, I would accompany him on your roof when he does his estimate. I cannot speak to the quality of the company's work, since we did NOT go with Five Star, but buyer beware. This type of damage does not just happen...

Ava had to come back to fix the issues we (as homeowners) uncovered, like: -used finishing nails instead of roofing nails in high wind areas -not tarring over exposed nails -had rippling of shingles in the back of the house -ridge vent didn't get added to the full roof -broke a beam and originally used a 2x4 on one side, didn't even notify me that this happened. -didn't cut soffits where they were supposed to -put feet through our ceiling in 2 areas and I discovered it on my own They fixed all these things properly and quickly, but only after I called to explain the same sub contractors they sent back originally, didn't do a good job fixing some of them. So then I asked for their actual internal installers to come out and fix. When they did that (sent Billy), the craftsmanship was much better. Now, 4 months after installation, my brand new bathroom vents are blowing air back in and not as strong anymore. We discover it's because of the way they installed the the roof vents. The grates are pushing up against the opening so they can't open fully. I'm beyond frustrated that poor installation caused all these issues to appear! Although Ava has come out each time, if I was an uneducated home owner, I would not necessarily be able to find these issues and push to get them fixed. If you choose to use them, make sure it's not a subcontractor doing the work and that they are using their internal team.
