They took no care or caution to protect our furnishings, walls, appliances, or HVAC system before or during the 3+ week process. The finished floor is chipping and scratching with merely a fingernail--yet it was supposed to be resistant to "taking a hammer to it." This process was 3.5 weeks of hell, ruined my 2-week staycation, and caused re-injury to my newly operated-on knee due to the intense amount of physical cleanup necessary to live in our main level. After seeing the main level damage, the owner said over and over that he'd "send a white glove cleaning company" here on him to remedy the heavy dust damage and instead. What did he do? He sent a few of their young guys in to clean my house instead of a licensed, bonded, bonafide company with expertise in post-construction cleanup! To make matters worse, we will pay $800 for a duct cleaning just in April (we had the company inspect the furnace and duct system and share the results with the owner. They oversprayed stain onto the bases of our walls, which they claimed would come off, and it didn't. One of their workers used our garage as his personal tool storage/dumping ground x three weeks, and they all ignored our many requests to move them out until the very last day and which took three requests. They paid zero attention to detail and persistently ground and sanded the floors for days without cleaning up the layers of debris as they went along, causing it to waft through the air to the point we had to put on masks in the evenings or sit outside until the wee hours under our propane heater while it settled. Our beds, furnishing, walls, belongings...everything was coated, including our cats; so toxic. Our beds, furnishing, walls, belongings...all coated, including our cats. We are not happy with the end result and kept voicing this. They kept going over it to try and make it look decent. We knew after several attempts there was nothing that could be done and succumbed to the fact we must live with it until we could afford to get it fixed. The scratching and chipping happened the second we moved our furnishings back into place, despite using felt pads. With little effort, I can pick any random spot and scrape the "bulletproofing" off with my fingernail. The edges have awful coverage. The bid included painting and installing new baseboards, but they never got to the point of painting them. We didn't trust them to do it professionally, so we handled it ourselves. I painted 2000 linear feet, and my husband installed it--even that was a pain because of the hardened chunks of debris they left on the edges. Other companies have said they used the wrong machine to remove the old vinyl, glue, and paint and that they have $40,000 in equipment with teeth that would have torn through the old vinyl, glue, and paint in one day. That part was the holdup for the first two weeks...lack of proper equipment. I'm at a complete loss for where to go from here. The stress of fighting for a refund is daunting, and so is small claims court, and we can't possibly have them back. They won't respond, so we're out of money and more expense to rectify the damages. Having initially gotten a quotation from Empire, we had a bit of a sense of what to expect in the sales process. Overall, the company did install great carpet and LVP in my home and were quite quick to do so. The installers helped to confirm my LVP was being installed in the direction I wanted and worked quickly, completing the jobs in a few hours. The only reason I didn't provide a 5-star review was for the reasons below: 1) Our sales representative was fine overall, but wasn't the fastest in responding or when I inquired about potentially putting a different pattern of flooring (e.g., planks placed in herringbone), he mentioned he had seen it, but didn't really offer it as an option. 2) The installation team left quite a bit of dust/shoeprints throughout my main floor in getting to the basement. Most other contractors in my home always bring drop cloths to avoid this. 3) We had just had our other contractors complete painting of the walls the previous week and after the installation team we had quite a few marks/scratches on the walls, some spanning multiple feet. 4) When the LVP team showed up and realized they didn't have enough materials, they asked me where they should leave unfinished - I feel like I shouldn't have been involved in the process. I paid for a completely floored basement, I shouldn't be involved in picking which areas are left undone. Still, Tim, their installation manager, did reach out after I reported the issues and was very gracious and willing to either schedule teams to come out or compensate us for our trouble. While I was able to resolve the issues above myself fairly easily, so didn't take him up on his offer, the fact that the company offered it was something I very much appreciated as all contractors will eventually run into issues, but it's how they respond that really makes the difference. Overall, I would likely use America's Floor Source again when we have flooring needs.
