Here's the deal..... I didn't actually use Handyman Joe for the work that I needed done in my home but we did communicate back and forth over a two day period that left me appreciating the customer service provided. I had closet shelving that had fallen and I needed it fixed asap. I spoke with Joe and even though he was pretty booked up he was going to try to come by and see what he could do. We scheduled a time but due to another job he had that he couldn't get away from called me in advance to let me know we'd have to reschedule. I had to go with someone else since I needed it done asap but I appreciated the phone call nonetheless. He even followed up a few days later to see if I still needed the job done since he hadn't heard back from me. I'm really not a fan of leaving bad reviews, especially when the person you're reviewing has your home address but this one is earned. I initially hired Joe to make a larger opening for my closet to accommodate a reach-in organization system. His work is in the room would be 3-star status BUT he was only supposed to be working on one wall yet he managed to get some nonremovable white stuff on another wall, one that was my statement wall (dark gray with gold polka dots). This mistake cost me an additional $65 to buy paint to repaint the wall that he ruined. He acknowledged that he effed it up and even said that if I got the paint, he'd come paint it. Nice right? I opted to just buy the paint and paint the wall myself to avoid hassling him. I haven't purchased more polka dots for the wall yet but that'll be an additional $30. This is a part of the reason Handyman Joe is getting this one star review. Wall paint issue aside, I reached out to Joe a few weeks later in a message requesting the cost to remove the baseboards in three rooms and put them back at a later date. I requested this quote twice and he never responded back in writing. He called me and told me it'd be $100. I made sure I asked if that included him putting them back on and he told me again that the job would cost $100. He came over and removed the baseboards in less than an hour and I paid the $100 up front. When I asked for him to put them back on at his convenience, he introduced the idea that there would be a new price that was more expensive because "he would have to make cuts and nail it to the walls which takes longer to do" Uh what? I initially paid him about $500 to do something that took him like three days to do but now he thinks I'm Boo Boo the Fool and going to pay $100 for less than one hour of work? If his prices were written or justified prior, things would be understandable but his style of quoting is extremely unprofessional. He went back and forth with me via text briefly about five days ago but hasn't responded to the last message I sent leaving me having to find someone new to put back the baseboards he removed. It's all unfortunate really but I learned a valuable lesson. I will never take a phone quote again. Pros: 1. He's prompt in returning Yelp messages, but that's likely because businesses get docked points for keeping potential customers waiting. 2. He does decent work, not perfect but gets the job done. 3. He's nice and handsome to look at but that's pretty irrelevant huh? Cons: 1.He doesn't really come on time. With the exception of the first day we met, he was late as hell practically every time he was scheduled to come. There were times that if I didn't message him, he would've just kept me waiting instead of rescheduling. In addition, he had to leave early one day because he had prior obligations which ended up affecting my schedule because I had to arrange to be home when he was coming. 2. Lastly, the most important con is that he's just not a good businessman. He may be a decent "handyman" because he has tools but certain things are unforgivable. Come on time, be responsive to messages, honor your word, send invoices to cover your own butt. If he had the business part mastered, he would've sent me an invoice which stated "baseboard removal $100" and a simple discussion could've avoided any confusion. But now he just seems like someone trying to get extra money because he may have misquoted me for the original job. I planned to find a handyman/contractor that I could refer out to my real estate clients and use for other projects in my home but with Joe I just ended up disappointed. I would not recommend him for anything major. read more

Joe is a smart and friendly individual. I believe he has a thorough understanding of construction in all fields. However...I also feel its important to warn people that he is scattered, dishonest and poor at managing business. We contracted him on two occasions to work on our property. Each time we paid the 50% deposit and then waited for several weeks with excuse after excuse as to when he would start. When someone finally showed up it was late morning and they only worked for a few hours before leaving. On our second attempt to use Joe, he came back after starting the job saying the original bid would need to increase by 300% because 'it was taking too long'. I informed Joe that his guy did not start until 1030 and left at 130p. Of course its going to take a long time if you only work a 3-4 hour day. On top of this, Joe admitted the little work that was done was unacceptable. I gave Joe a second chance to complete the work. This time he came out himself, at 1130a...worked for 4 hours then left. The panels he glued to the wall all separated and will have to be redone...by a competent contractor. As of today, Joe refuses to refund our money for the work that will ALL have to be redone. Steer clear. You do not want to deal with the incompetence and lies, not to mention losing your deposit on shotty work. Sorry Joe...Shame on you the first time. Shame on me for giving you a second and third chance. read more

In all honesty, this is a mixed, but mostly bad review. The Good: the quality of the work done by Joe himself was pretty good. The Bad: The quality of the work done by some of Joe's helpers, especially when he was not here supervising, was mediocre at best. More importantly though, Joe's promptness and communication were terrible. He started the job promptly and the first day and a half went pretty well. After that, he did not follow up for WEEKS. When we communicated with him, on at least two occasions he said he would definitely be here to finish the job, only to NO SHOW and NO CALL. read more

As a business owner, I understand that mistakes or miscommunication happens so I always give another chance. Joe was very prompt in returning our calls and quick on estimating projects. He'd did a good job with the punch list of items we had around the house. Does very good with Sheetrock repairs and blending in patterned walls and ceilings. Would hire again if needed. read more

Joey came n fixed my porch. He apologized for not getting to it sooner but he was out if town on a hotel renovation. But he came out n cut some more off to avoid the trees and also reinforced it . Joe, the owner, is amazing. He is very knowledgeable, patient and courteous. I asked him a ton of questions about a bathroom shower semi-remodel and he always responded quickly without missing a beat. He explained all options to me and in detail. I really appreciated that. Although I decided to hold off on the remodel for now, I will definitely call Joe to do it when I'm ready. I also had him do lots of random things around the house that had been on the to do list for quite some time. He is truly a jack of all trades. He worked for hours and kept up a good pace. His work is stellar and his pricing is fair. I definitely recommend him. read more

Joe is a great handyman. He has a wide range of skills and is very reasonably priced. He's willing to work around your schedule and while he's on the job, he works hard. Joe is sort of a perfectionist, which caused each of the two jobs he did to run over the scheduled time, but he did what was needed to finish and didn't charge extra. Highly recommended! read more
