This is my second encounter with Hanger. I'd hoped my first was an aberration. This time I was being measured for an ankle orthotic. I was told that I would be called before it was made and told how much my share of the cost would be, so I could decide if I wanted it or not. The next call I received was to book an appointment for a fitting. Since I hadn't received the cost call, I erroneously assumed it was covered 100%. I set up an appointment for 6 days later. This morning, the day of my appointment, Hanger called to let me know I have a $650 "deductible." When I expressed my irritation at being told this so late in the process, the woman was a little too polished at dismissing my concerns, explaining that that was why she was calling before my appointment. I pointed out that THE DAY OF does not constitute calling me with any chance of halting the process. I am furious. Clearly this is standard practice for them. My orthopedist says I need this custom brace, but I really don't want to reward their perfidy. read more

Rick Garcia was a phenomenal help he made sure my brace was fit properly and I felt completely secure before walking out of the office he also made sure to move extremely slow and was ridiculously patient with me so I wouldn't experience any more pain than needed! I can only speak to our experience which was very positive. We took our son to the Hanger Clinic for a helmet because he had a pretty flat head. Over a couple months we saw significant improvement and the customer service / experience was great. read more

Hmmm after reading previous reviews I'm wondering what places these people have been visiting because it sure wasn't the Hanger office on Washington St. My first encounter was with what was an intern with a God complex and thankfully before I said anything they fired him. I've had nothing but excellent service since, not that the intern was out of line with me but his talents were definitely best suited elsewhere. Angela is a total sweetheart. She's very accommodating and greets you with a big smile and she puts on movies (that I like) while waiting to be called. Unlike other reviews, I'm usually called within 5 minutes of my appointment time if not sooner if I show up early. Sara(h) is another sweetheart and very accommodating as well. She doesn't have Angela's big smile but that doesn't take away from her being very customer service oriented and when things happen that are out of her control. She is very communicative and handles it like a champ. Now that I've given this glowing review there is 1 con.....the lil candy cup by the sign in sheet doesn't have enough butterscotch candy in it but that was like a 1/10th of a star deduction and I round up. :0P Thank you ladies for taking such good care of me! read more

I am a 71-year-old male with neuropathy and Charcot Marie Tooth syndrome and I need braces to walk. I am on a fixed income Social Security and Medicare. I am contacting you at this time in order to explain my point of view with ineffective braces, payments made to you by Medicare, and my paid deductible. My objective is to obtain an effective brace and not be billed again for yet another deductible. I purchased a brace from your company in 2001 and 2006 for my left foot. I now need braces for both feet. I have been trying to get two new braces from your company for the last three years! Please note that I have fallen several times with your inferior braces. Here is a recap of recent transactions: I paid you the deductible for the first set of braces which broke in three months. The brace company sent another design brace which also broke after a few weeks. The technician recommended a third set (left foot) which lasted a little longer and it also broke. I've had three different braces that you have recommended that have broken and caused me to fall. I believe Medicare has paid full price for two sets to your company ($2000+). I have paid deductible for one set, but I still do not have a set of effective braces that allow me to walk without falling. Your office is now requesting me to pay another deductible for the second set which I believe is inappropriate. All of these issues have been discussed with the Encinitas office, the technicians and the financial billing department. The billing department told they could do nothing about this and told me to take it up with the Encinitas office. By the way I found the same brace that you charged Medicare $1250 for on the Internet for $250.00. read more

I've been here at least a dozen times. The techs here have an issue in staying true to the client's time. Out of the dozen or so times I've been here, I can hardly remember being called back to be seen within a half an hour of my appointment time. This is aggravating and seemingly disrespectful. I have other things I need to be doing and waiting in an office lobby is not one of those things. I don't often take to the Internet to complain, but after missing each one of my appointments by a half an hour OR MORE due to office mismanagement, it has to be known. Don't set up appointments shortly after an appointment here. I've made that mistake more than once. The quality of work that is done here however, redeems them. When I have an issue with my prosthetic (AFO), the techs here are attentive, and they listen to your concerns. That's very nice when your mobility is limited, and the techs are committed to customer satisfaction and quality of life. read more

We went to visit Hanger Clinic on recommendation from our child's primary care physician due to her heads shape being a little off. ( Forgive me I don't have the exact medical term). We were able to work DR. Sarah Riddar she was awesome with working with our baby throughout the whole process and answered all questions and concerns whenever we had them. This is the worst place ever to answer the phone and have someone call you back. When I finally got through after leaving 4 messages and not getting a return call I told them that I may have to go with another company and they say said thats fine go with someone else. They are using cheaper materials and their prosthetocs break easily. I had a prosthetic made here once 20 years ago that lasted 18 years. I finally went in for an elavuation and they tell me that I have to get a new prosthetic because mine was an old design. So they make the new one and sure enough 8 months later it breaks. Then they tell me that it only has a 6 month warranty so I have to buy a new one. Again the "new" design and yes you guessed it this one broke also and just passed the 6 month warranty date. Now they want to charge me again to have a third one made. I understand a business needs to make money but to use such cheap material and poor craftsmanship on a prosthetic that people need to walk with is absurd. Taking advantage of people with disabilities! !!!! read more

Just to be clear. Hanger is in the business of custom prosthetics and orthotics. Often we can't quote a price over the phone until we see the patient. We are not simply handing over a brace. We must evaluate and treat the patient per the doctor's recommendations. Our patients are being seen by certified prosthetists and or orthotists. read more

Stay away! It has a been one nightmare after another dealing with these people. I got my referral letter in the mail and tried to make an appointment, even with the letter in my hand the lady on the phone told me I had no referral, that the information I was given her was wrong, that I needed to go back to my podiatrist to get a copy of his referral approval for them. I did all of it and I drove down to the office to get an appointment and the lady at the office was baffled as to what the original problem was, that there should have been no problem setting up my appointment. I get fitted with out problem thankfully and was given an appointment to come pick up my inserts 3 weeks later. The day of my appointment I received a call and when I called back I was told I they needed to reschedule my appointment. I was told I needed to turn in some paperwork (like A S. in a previous review) that there was a problem with my insurance. I told her there wasn't a problem I jumped through all these hoops trying to set up my original appointment so they have all the necessary paperwork. Then I was told my inserts haven't arrived yet. After 3 weeks? If it wasn't for the severe pain in my tendons from walking this would be kind of funny, this is a place to be avoided at all costs. If you get a referral to them ask the referrer to send you to a different place. If you are a walk in client run away as fast as you can. read more

Had 1st apt mid May. Jerked me around until July 2nd. Went in they said braces was in it wasn't. They had canceled order, but for some reason couldn't reorder. I had to remember which brace I was to get. Picked one I thought was it out of a manual. July 17th got brace. Hurt my foot after I left. On 7/21/14 returned brace. Went to different Hanger. Had cast made for new brace then found out Medicare had paid for returned brace. Can't get them to refund to Medicare. It's been 5 months and I can't get a new brace until Medicare is refunded. Many more things happened but this is everything pertinent. read more
