The produce here is especially fresh and the variety of baked goods and deli items as well as the quality of the meats and cheeses that are pre-cut this supermarket apart from the other ones in town. I'm adding this review late because of a second recent incident. About a year ago my wife went into the store to shop while I stayed out with the dog. When my wife came out she was in tears and extremely upset. My wife is about 5' tall and Vietnamese. She speaks English well and is friendly to everyone. It took some coaxing but I discovered she went to the 14 items lane and apparently actually had 16 items . The woman who had been extremely friendly to the previous shopper became extremely rude and even hostile for the crime of 2 extremely small items over the max that my wife missed because of how they had stacked in the cart. When my wife left said woman became extra nice to the shopper behind her. We have had many good experiences and many of the workers are friendly and show no signs of bias. We reported this incident to the store and no idea if there was action taken within. The second incident happened today and mirrors that of another Asian shopper who also left a comment. We will pay that review separately. It's experienced like these that will drive us from shopping at a store. If the store were to take a proactive approach to improving their inclusivity training and address biased employees we might consider returning. read more

I am consistently underwhelmed with Hannaford. It doesn't seem to matter which store I go to either. Every time I go, there is something that causes me to say, "I've got to stop going to Hanafords." One time it was dozens of moldy lemons in the produce department. Another time, I bought a bag of muscles from the fish guy and when I got them home, only four of them were alive. The last time we went, every package of raspberries I picked up had mold in it. I stopped and told the produce guy. He said, oh yeah, I saw that earlier, thank you." but didn't clean them up. With plenty of grocery stores around, there is no need to go to Hannaford. read more

My office is only 10 minutes away from this store so I used to come here every week for groceries shopping, sometimes even twice a week. It would be my favorite store until the staffs showed the racism towards Asian people and that stopped me from spending any more money with them. First time they mistreated me was a while ago and I don't want to mention it here. The second times was two day ago when I went there to get some groceries, normally I would do self check out to save time but i had quite many stuffs in my cart that day, also my hand got hurt, so I decided to wait on the check out line with the bagging helper. Before me, there was a white man with a handful of items and there was a woman with long blonde and straight hair helping him out with putting stuffs in the bag. When it was my turn, she immediately walked away and started chitchatting with other employees so I would have to do the bag myself. I was struggling to put my groceries inside my bags without any help, even from the cashier at the checkout who already done scanning. I looked around and saw that blonde woman was looking at me and she laughed. To make it worst, the cashier even pushed me to pay quickly so she could serve the next customer. I felt so ashamed when I walked out of the store. After I left, i saw that blonde hair woman came back and helped out the white couple after me, with only a handful of item again. Ive always being nice and friendly to everyone no matter where they came from, because that is how I respect them and want to be treated the same. Really sick of going to Hannaford in W.Leb and trying to get something on sale only to find they don't have it. This time it was frozen turkey .I asked the butcher and they didn't know anything and all he could do is shrug his shoulders. 1. Stock the shelves after closing or before opening. I've been in at times and can barely shop because of the stocking of shelves...people and their products blocking the aisles. 2. Hire more baggers. 9 times out of 10 I'm bagging my own stuff. 3. Rewards program is a joke. Spent $240 and saved a whopping 35 cents. 4. The meat department is disgraceful. Hannaford is an excellent grocery to buy your food. They typically have a broad range of quality choices. Their produce department is excellent and consistently carry many items not available in other local chains. They also have an excellent bakery, deli and meat department. The meats are fresh and their team is happy to help with a special cut or to place an order for you (e.g. standing rib roast for the holidays). They also have a variety of fresh fish and seafood, both wild caught as well as farm raised. Missilery, tuna, pollock, lobster, you name it. And last but not least, their staff is friendly and helpful. Keep up your great work Hannaford! read more

I'm writing this review real time as I checked in so you know I'm not making this up. Two issues: Number 1: This place is likely racist. There are store workers who help customers bag their grocery items at the end of the checkout lanes. Giving benefit of the doubt, granted there are more checkout lanes than workers who help bagging, I still feel that they selectively help white customers. I'm an asian female who weighs 110 lbs so it is fair to say that I'm far from the most muscular customer of the store. However, over the past 2.5 years I have shopped here (each time I buy 1-2 weeks' worth of groceries, including milk and other liquids), I have only been helped twice. Today, for example, I bought more than $100 groceries including milk yogurt and soda. When I was in line for checkout, the white couple in front of me, who were both bigger than me, who looked very young (grad students or college students with college hoodies on) received help bagging (of all their grocery items) from a white male store staff. However when it was my turn, the white male store staff walked away to the next isle to help another young white couple. This to me felt intentional and malicious. Problem Number 2: even after the bird flu and the egg prices all over the country already dropped, their cheapest dozen eggs was more than 6 dollars. I mean.... Come on... a dozen of organic eggs at Whole Foods market is less than five dollars now. I feel like they took advantage of the bird flu and jacked up the egg price and refuse to let it come down to normal. How unethical! read more

Truly disgusted with my experience today as I was headed towards the 14 items or less isle (only one other lane open with a huge line) I head towards her and before she even really looks at my cart she says nope go over there you have too much stuff ( mind you my baby's car set is in my cart !!! I loved to shop at Hannaford with one exception: Hannaford is VERY week on organic dairy products, esp. if it comes to lactose free products. Actually, there is not a single organic lactose free product in the store, which means that one has to go somewhere else to find those products. As a result, I buy everything at the other store, usually the local coop in the Upper Valley, which is - together with Target - the only store that sells lactaid organic dairy products. As a result, I would say that ignoring lactose intolerant customers is not very customer friendly, apart from the fact that Hannaford misses a chance. read more

The people who work there are dismissive, and act like they really don't want to deal with customers. I overheard one guy tell a woman shopper that she was impatient and "tapping her fingernails" because he wasn't responding to her fast enough. She denied it, and I didn't see/hear her do anything except try to talk to him. Also, nite that if they are having a sale on something you want, get there ASAP or you won't get it (you still might not) and they don't give rainchecks like literally every other store in town. They just say well, it's covid. Except Shaw's and Price chopper both give rainchecks. I try to be nice to working people, but this store has gone downhill big time. I had the most wonderful experience at this store. My sister died unexpectedly and I was racing to find party platters and hors'oeurves for guests for her repast. Not a caterer in the area would help me without 24 hours notice. Most didn't call me back until right before we needed the food. I agree with H p.'s review of this store. While I haven't completed a full grocery shopping trip here, I've been to this store several times for those occasions when I've runs out of items here and there, as this is the closest grocery store to me (1.6 miles, to be exact). While I do prefer the local Co-Ops for my produce purchases, I tend to head to the local (West Lebanon) stores for the rest of my grocery purchases, as they're usually much less expensive. Hannaford does a good job (as far as I've seen) of keeping new and local products stocked. This is especially true of the Ben & Jerry's products. I would definitely steer clear of any of the non-food items, though, as they are indeed pricey. I noticed that this store is the only grocery store in the area to not participate in any type of "reward" system. The other grocery stores in West Lebanon offer gas discounts and the Co-Ops offer buy-in program which works a lot like buying stock in a company. Hannaford, however, doesn't offer anything, and their regular prices don't make up for this at all. One point I will make is that I've received great service at the customer service counter, which is always nice, and not always common. read more

This rating is relative to the other supermarkets in the area. There are usually good options for fresh veggies, the shelves are stocked, crowds aren't too bad. That said, prices for veggies are high. Buying organic is expensive. And this is coming from someone who lived in NYC for the last 5 years. The prices are good for the most part, although I always get a headache while shopping - something about the environment or smell, my senses are always too confused to determine what the issue is. They are probably the best supermarket in the area besides Co-Op but they are so expensesive you can't really stock up on things there. Hannafords selection is the best compared to Price Chopper and Shaws. The meats are ok probably the best in the area, that's not saying much because the selection and and quality every around is lousy. They always run out of veggies and fruits especially organic items but the other storesin the area also run out quickly. Not really sure why all the stores don't carry more organics. This grocery store is the bee's knees! I was disappointed that it wasn't a Trader Joe's, but I love this store nonetheless. Everything I buy on the reg. is cheaper than Price Chopper. Well, this being the Upper Valley where prices are artificially high for a place in the middle of NO WHERE, Hannaford is our main choice due to my husband's preference for groceries. I wish we had an Aldi or Super Walmart or some other store like Market Basket here but we don't and either deal with Hannaford or Price Chopper. Hannaford has a nice layout and large choice of cheeses, cooked foods, temping morsels for all if you have the money to pay for them. Their bakery is inferior to PriceChopper (can no one make bread properly in the UV? Price Chopper tries and wins over Hannaford but still...give me a decent bakery any day like back in suburban NY). Hannaford is okay for the area and their staff is very polite and well mannered. If you want to cherry pick you could go to Hannaford then PC. read more

This has become my go-to store for many items. The sushi is made fresh, and is good and reasonably priced (made by Sol, very nice guy). The prices generally are ok, but its up to each shopper to know what things should cost, and then decide if the price is good at that store, that day. Be informed! I abandoned Price Chopper because they went back to the old system of requiring you to clip store coupons (instead of giving you the discount simply by using your rewards card), and they also basically halved the gas rewards program. The other option is Shaws, which is just ok. The co-op is pricey, but necessary for certain items you cannot get elsewhere in the area. read more

Best in the Upper Valley for prices but frustrating to shop because of frequent out-of-stock situations. Quality of produce is marginal...better to stop at Stern's. On my last regular shopping adventure they were out of large sized L&P Worcestershire Sauce, King Arthur flour, Kellogg's Raisin Bran (all sizes), large sized Special K Red Berries, large sized Tropicana Grovestand OJ, Friendly's Coffee Ice Cream and Lotrimin ointment. Four days later, they were still out of OJ and coffee ice cream and I got the last box of raisin bran. I've raised my concerns about stocking levels to managers on multiple occasions and have received various excuses...store is too busy, manufacturers can't keep up with demand, vendors are responsible for stocking levels, etc. Finally, checkouts are frequently backed up with no help in sight.
