Listen, I hate taxes more than anything, and I go through this every year. It's a long story, but…read morethe guy who did my taxes for years since moving back isn't doing them this year so my mom and I had to find a new person to do it. The gentleman (Alan) who does the taxes here bases his prices off how complicated they are. He has an MBA from Harvard and is super cool to deal with, along with being reasonably competitive with his pricing compared to other accountants. My mom and I went together and he took us at 7PM on a Friday night. He had mine done (the easier of the two) in 15 minutes and my moms (who's more complicated) in about 30 minutes. We both sat with him separately to go through each item and things went smoothly. We both paid by check, as I don't believe he takes any other form of payment. You can ask, but that's what it is. Overall, he filed it electronically and he said I should get my refund in about two weeks. For me, I spent about $225 for everything, and my mom's was $390. Most places we called were a flat fee of $400 to $450, so this pricing is fabulous compared to what's out there. Alan's located in downtown Berkley and I do recommend him!

This was my first time "on my own" for my taxes - my dad and I have been seeing the same accountant for 10+ years now, but he's rather expensive and I wanted something less expensive this year. I tried Turbo Tax but it was going to be $190 with their insurance, so for that price I figured I should have my taxes professionally done. Ruth is very personable, and I was there for about 1.5 hours and then my taxes were e-filed by her! Quick and easy, despite the fact that I have both my regular job income plus my business income (blog + affiliate marketing). You do have to pay while at your appointment, which I wasn't aware of, but they take cash, checks, and credit cards, so that was fine. There's also free parking behind the building, on 14 Mile. Definitely will be back next year, I paid about $425 less (!) than my previous accountant, and Ruth did a good job on my taxes. Plus I live about five minutes down the street so the location is great.
