In the past, I've learned French at Alliance Francaise where a lot of instructors were young graduates from France who came to Toronto for some experience abroad and therefore were not necessarily trained and professional, but in contrast, the instructors at Goethe Institut were very well trained and professional. They genuinely care about your learning experience and want you to take the most out of the classes. Even when I was in a class of 10 or so people, I still felt that each of us received enough personal attention. The instructors also made themselves available for any questions before the course and during the break. As a whole, Goethe Institut helped me prepare as much as I can before I had to fly to Germany for my school at a reasonable price. I also loved that the courses are taught mostly in German, even the very beginner A1.1. This could be difficult and frustrating for any first-time learner, but from my experience in learning other foreign languages, this always works a lot better in long-term. The only reason I took one star off is that when I was buying my textbooks for A2.1, I only had a credit card, and I was told that the machine wasn't working that day and I had to pay with cash. You usually buy the textbooks on the first day of each course and by then, I had already paid the $595 course fees. I was expecting that they would still give me the books so that I can use it for my first class and note my name and class so that they could collect the textbook fees from me the next class, but I was surprised to hear that I will have to get the textbooks next time and take the first class without the books. It's not as if I would not show up next class when I've already paid for the course fees. I just thought that this wasn't necessarily fostering a good learning environment.

A instituição vende bilhetes para eventos de turismo, mas quando ocorrem problemas como comprei o bilhete para o jogo do Blue jays, a escola simplesmente diz para você procurar a empresa e que eles não podem fazer absolutamente nada, quando compramos os bilhetes dentro da escola e com funcionários da escola. Hola, Okay, let me…read morestart off by saying this is a great course for those who are disciplined and really willing to learn and don't need constant prodding or pressure to study. I took a couple of courses 2 years ago and wasn't really into it. I was very busy at work. However, what this school offers you is a tiered program and a lot of interaction with other students, so it's more of an immersion than studying. The other part is that they don't give you tests (which I respect, but is a total downside for me because if I don't have pressure, I don't do well, so I was more focused on the cute girls). So why should you take this course? -Price - only $255 for 10 week course -You are travelling somewhere in Latin America (this is Latin American Spanish not Spain Spanish, which I learned that there are quite a few differences) -You have good self-discipline and can/will practice at home. -You have co-workers from Latin America and want to impress them that you know a bit of Spanish Why you shouldn't attend here -you want to know all the in's and out's of Spanish history -you are too busy at work or school to concentrate and practice at home. -you need tests to get you to study -you need to write professional business letters in Spanish -you want professionally trained teachers (most of these people are part-time) All this being said, the only reason I didn't learn a lot was because I wasn't totally into it and all my travel seemed to coincide with the key classes. So that is MY FAULT!. So I think if paid attention, studied, I would have learned a lot more and would give it four stars. The only problem is that from beginner level to intermediate level is a huge jump and don't warn you of that leap. When I went to the intermediate level, the director of the school called out 5-6 people in class to hang back and tell them they weren't ready. I was one of those. However, I found this extremely embarrassing and turned me a bit off and that is why I am docking a star to 3 stars. He wasn't wrong, but could have done this so much more discreetly. Otherwise, take a few beginner courses and if you study, you'll definitely learn a bit. Adios

I was interested in learning some French before taking a trip to Montréal, so enrolled in a five…read moreweek on line course in their most basic class, Initiation A1.1. It was held via Zoom, and had ordered the required textbooks from Amazon. The schedule was for two hours, twice a week. The students were from all over the world; even the instructor was hosting the class from Acapulco, Mexico. The goal at the end of this session was to be able to both orally and in writing, introduce yourself in French. There were also various class projects based on cultural aspects of the French speaking world. Plenty of homework, but overall, it was a fun experience, especially coming from not knowing any French before. This class actually did come in handy in one instance. When I took a taxi from the airport to my hotel, the driver knew no English. Fortunately, he had a GPS and I knew how to say the address number in French. Now he understood and entered it in his GPS and my hotel came up on his screen and off we went!

Giving such last-minute notice left us with no alternatives and caused serious inconvenience. Canceling a course that was supposed to start on Monday at the very last moment shows a clear lack of professionalism. In addition, we paid from Turkey and incurred around $100 in bank transfer fees. This extra cost was completely wasted. The fact that this was not considered at all and the course was cancelled at the very last minute has significantly damaged our trust. This process has been very poorly managed, and the situation we experienced is unacceptable.

ARIA ESL provides highly customized ESL lessons and are extremely responsive to all customer inquiries. The teacher we worked with, Farnaz, despite being young is a very dedicated professional with detailed lesson plans and who clearly has her student's best interests at heart. They focus on one-on-one (or some group) lessons, but provide the service at a cost equivalent to what the larger ESL schools would charge for a 10-15 person class with significantly less student/teacher individual interaction. ARIA currently does not have their own classroom, but they more than make up for this by being flexible in meeting in quiet, public areas. I would strongly recommend ARIA ESL Learning Services for any serious ESL student; we have booked them for nearly 100 hours worth of lessons, and will continue with ARIA ESL for the foreseeable future. We have seen significantly more improvement in our two months studying with ARIA ESL than we had in the four months prior with the larger language schools. Highly recommend!
