Honestly, I'm surprised some of the people in the reviews were so unhappy with Happy Buffet. Every time my husband and I have gone there we've walked out with full bellies and happy with how little we've had to spend. These days we'd have spent double at a McDonalds. We've gone for date nights and have gone with our two kids for family nights. My daughter loves their "spaghetti" (really, it's lo mein), my son loves the sweet and sour chicken, and I love their coconut chicken. We've always gotten refills and have been checked on multiple times to make sure we didn't need anything. We usually get to pick our own table, and the kids love greeting their little cat decoration up front. We'll continue to pick this spot as a quiet little haven where we don't have to cook at home and not break the bank. Last time I went the food wasn't great, and there were not enough options for what was charged. Unless they changed things up a bit since then I would choose a different Chinese restaurant in the area over this. Went here before with my girlfriend for my birthday, the food is amazing. However, the owner is TERRIBLE. I've read previous reviews and apparently this is not the first time that they were unfriendly. They kicked my girlfriend out today for telling the owner that there was RAW CHICKEN in the orange chicken and she threw up. She even apologized for throwing up! I entered Happy Buffet at 7:15pm on a Wednesday evening. I was surprised to find it nearly deserted. I went and had a look at the buffet to decide whether or not to stay. Things looked pretty good, and there was a pretty good variety of dishes in spite of what I had read in other reviews, so I decided to stay. The first bowl I picked up for soup was dirty. Not off to a good start. I later discovered the pepper shaker was quite sticky. I was not impressed with the level of cleanliness. I was looking forward to trying the peanut butter chicken as I had read positive comments about it. I was informed that it is a lunch only item. I ordered ice water for my drink, then was surprised to find they had no lemons. I was also disappointed to find they had no spring rolls. They did have egg rolls, but the wrappers had an odd texture-chewy, not crispy. On the positive side, they did have more beef than I usually see on a Chinese buffet. The price was fair for the food, and the quality was mostly decent. I probably won't visit again, but it certainly wasn't the worst I've ever had. read more

Every kid in our house gets to pick where they want to eat on their birthday. Our oldest son really wanted a Chinese buffet and I really didn't want to drive out to Boardman. We decided on Happy Buffet because most of the reviews were pretty good and it wasn't too far away. We arrived around 7:30 on a Tuesday. From the outside it didn't look very sizable, but once you step in you see that's not the case. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and shown to a table. As a party of six, they had to put two tables together for us, but it was done very quickly. There was only one other table of diners when we arrived. I sent all of the children to wash their hands and went myself. I found the ladies room to be clean and well stocked. That's always a plus. I'm leary of dining in places with dirty restrooms. Then we all got our food. While there were certainly several dishes, I found the size of the buffet to be lacking. The only "vegetarian" dish was a pan of green beans. I had hoped for an all veggie dish and even those yummy mushrooms you can often get elsewhere. The birthday boy had wanted some broccoli, but the only dish you could get it in was with chicken. That wasn't a deal breaker for him though. He likes chicken well enough. I was the last to join my party at the table so asked how it was. My husband's first response was that the flavor was good, but nothing was hot. He was right. Everything we had with the exception of the Egg Drop soup was only warmish. Even the items that were refilled while we were there were not hot. Two of my sons got the salmon and it was very tough and hard to cut. We did let our server know, but I'm not sure she understood what we were trying to say. We didn't sample anything other than desserts from the cold bar. Other than the orange jello (everyone agreed it was awful), everything else got two thumbs up. The little cakes were moist and fresh. The puddings were nice and cold. My middle son enjoyed some ice cream. I didn't see the breakdown of the bill, but I know it was $45 for all six of us (we all had water). Overall, I didn't feel it was worth even that considering three of our diners were children. The server was very attentive and actually smiled at us numerous times. I don't know what it is about Chinese buffets, but usually the staff generally seems unhappy. That wasn't the case here. Everyone was pleasant. I gave them three stars because the staff was pleasant, the place was clean, and the food was flavorful even if it wasn't hot. I would probably not return here during a time I wouldn't expect them to be busy. I would probably consider coming back during a lunch rush when it's not as pricey and hopefully the food might actually be hot and fresh. read more

I went there with a friend and since she was paying she forced me to go here over my best judgement. We will NOT be repeating this mistake. The food in the buffet was cold and when we brought this to the attention of the attendant she said "oh, you have to stir it up to get the warm stuff". This Chinese buffet is one of the cleanest I have encountered. I have been to this restaurant three times, and each time the food has been hot and delicious. There is always an attendant at the buffet who quickly refills and empty or near empty pans. The dining room attendants are very attentive, and bring drink refills and remove used plates in a timely manner. This is by far the best dining option on Belmont Ave. yet each time I go there are only few customers. I highly recommend this place, and hope more people patronize this business because I would hate to see an excellent dining option fail. read more

The happy buffet on belmont and goldie rd in liberty plaza is my favorite chinese buffet restaurant! I mainly go for the lemon chicken, peanut chicken, japanese chicken, rose red chicken, pork fried rice, glazed peanuts, cream cheese wontons, pot stickers/dumplings and usual general tso's, sesame chicken and sweet and sour chicken for lunch and lobster dish, coconut shrimp for dinner and if i am not mistaken sometimes they served coconut chicken and lemon shrimp and all was so tasty. I would get happy buffet for lunch at 230-300pm then wait for dinner 330pm-4pm to take home buffet and most times i will go to happy buffet for lunch and then go to royal grill for lunch/dinner to get coconut chicken and shrimp, orange chicken, cream cheese wontons, lobster dish! I just got to have so much variety of it all.. I don't go to restaurants much so i get other things and go on diet sometimes and its not worth to just eat salads and fruit at restaurants when i can still get hungry and spent more money on food later. I am not the type to eat in by myself anymore, only with someone so i pay by the pound to take home, usually 4-6 pounds for 4-7 days worth of food with royal grill buffet of 4-6 pounds of food. When i don't or can't go out i do main moon chinese delivery. The most i gone eating chinese for long periods before i eat something else is about 2 weeks and mostly go without chinese for 3 months over all average before i eat it again for getting healthy reason's. I want to explore more of other chinese/ japanese restaurants but i stick with the usual! read more

This is the BEST Chinese buffet restaurant in the area! I have been search around the area for a Chinese restaurant for awhile. Tried a couple, but they were either overpriced or wasn't good. We came across this place and it's the best one. The food is always made fresh. It's not as busy as others, but that's a good thing. It has loyal customers. Most of the time we get take-out and it's worth the price! Pay about $8-9 for a box, but you can fill it up as much as you want, as long as the box closes. The employees are friendly and helpful.
