The owner and staff are extremely dedicated to rescuing abandoned and stray cats and kittens, and finding them loving homes. The pair of cats that we fostered were actually found by the manager of the pet store in which the adoption center is located, who is also an avid animal rescuer. They were only 2-3 weeks old, underweight, and would have certainly died in the cold if they hadn't been taken in. After a few weeks of TLC and lots of milk and food, they were the as cute and playful as any kitten could ever be. Once they were ready to be adopted, we gave them back to LI Feline Adoption center, and within days, someone had the greatest Christmas present ever. The adoption center itself is located with the store Pet Supplies Plus (http://www.yelp.com/biz/pet-supplies-plus-smithtown) in the far back-right corner of the store. They have a great facility with big windows so you can even window shop if you want. Even if you do see that exact cat or kitten that you are looking for, go in and talk to the people running the center. They only have room for so many cats in the adoption center itself, the rest are in foster homes. Chances are that they can help you find a perfect pet for you. Also, as with any rescue or adoption center, is you know you're not just getting a great pet, but you've also saved a life.

At the end of the interview she said we would most likely be approved for the kittens and could have them The following Saturday. Saving animals is not easy for those who volunteer but is worth every minute when they can connect a needy pup with their forever home. Earlier this year we wanted to help out and adopt a pup that needed a home. So we filled out the RHR application and then went through an extensive phone and home video interview and inspection. Everyone involved in the vetting process was very professional. We were impressed at how detailed they were to make sure that if we were approved our home would be safe and welcoming to one of their charges. If every rescue did what RHR does there is no doubt in our minds that every dog placed would end up in great forever homes. Originally, we were interested in a dachshund/poodle mix but had to pass on her because we were not feeling well to bring her home. A few weeks later we went to a RHR foster home to meet a few potential pups. Our original intention was to adopt a similar pup to the one we had to pass on and decided to trial foster a totally different pup who is a chihuahua/rat terrier mix from Korea who was very shy and not very interested in us. From the moment we adopted Ozzy we kept in contact with RHR via multiple texts, photos and videos to keep everyone in the loop as he slowly came out of his shell. It took a few weeks for Ozzy to want to fully explore our home and fenced in yard. Then a few more weeks until he found his voice and proved to us, yes he can bark, especially when we were, in his mind, taking a bit too long to cook his eggs for breakfast. Now a few months later he is part of the family, enjoying playing with his brothers and sisters, keeping up with them and showing that he is truly one of the gang. So if you want to help a pup in need and support the gallant efforts of the RHR organization we would highly recommend that you do so. As a former board member of an Animal Rescue in Massachusetts I can say that this organization truly deserves the support of any animal lover who wants to make a difference by adopting one of their wonderful pups.

My veterinarian advised that spaying her this young was not safe and strongly recommended waiting until she was older. When I brought these concerns to the rescue, I was met with rude, dismissive, and intimidating responses. Rather than having a respectful discussion about my veterinarian's recommendations, I was repeatedly told I would be in breach of contract and would never have licensure of my puppy if I did not follow their timeline. The emails I received were hostile and unprofessional, especially considering I was simply trying to advocate for my puppy's health. I understand rescues have policies, but there should be room for reasonable consideration when a licensed veterinarian raises concerns. The way I was treated left me feeling disrespected and unsupported. I have adopted many puppies and animals from other rescues in the past and have never had an experience remotely close to this. I would encourage anyone considering adopting from this rescue to carefully review their requirements and be aware of how medical concerns and adoption procedures may be handled.

The new owners that call themselves the "Final Gift". They had made excuses for over 2 weeks of why we haven't received our ashes. Finally the general manager, Eric Hosley call to tell us that they gave our Lola's ashes to another family! Who happened to be the member family's name is Lola. Eric Horsley Promised to deliver our Lola's ashes personally by Monday 12/16. He made more excuses about the owners who can not bring Lola's ashes to the facility. Example: they had car trouble, they had to work late, It's now a month that we still don't have her ashes and they stopped calling us. No call no show. I submitted a claim to the Better Business Bureau We sent registered letters to the middle island and the corporate offices ! They did refund our monies. But Eric Hursey promised for us to pick out a glass etched memento of Lola's picture on it. Never called us again! Never fessed up to the mistake or never received our etched glass. Lies after lies. We are definitely going to contact channel 12 news and eyewitness news on your side. There are more reputable crematories on Long Island than theirs. After all the reviews I read, I will never EVER recommend that place to anyone.
