These people are amazing! They truly care about the animals, and will do anything it takes to make sure you find the right pet for your home and family. The place is clean, of course it's going to smell like animals! The staff is friendly, welcoming, and warm. We adopted a puppy, the process was smooth and efficient. Went quickly. It felt very long since we were excited to bring our puppy home, but it was only a week. Very quick. We would go back and adopt another dog from them. They are truly amazing souls. read more

My boyfriend and I wanted to adopt a dog from here and the puppy we picked was stated as being a Belgian Malinois. When we asked to adopted the less than friendly woman at desk decided to talk down to me and say oh no u can't adopt this dog, this is a Belgian and only those that have had this breed before can handle a dog like this. To which I said I have owned Sheppards so I am aware of how high maintenance and energetic they are. She came back with Sheppards are a completely different breed and no comparison to the Belgian. I said I don't think they are that different but I am willing to research. Went home did my research found them very similar and called someone higher up in the rescue and explained I was aware of how to handle the breed and was told I was not allowed to adopt because I never owned a Belgian before. Well we finally got approved to adopt her and decided to do DNA....the results are in....shes 65% German shepherd and the rest Pit bull......am I worthy now since she isn't even a dam Belgian Malinois??? Uppity yuppy standards for unrealistic rescuers. No reason to deny and prolong a dog's adoption to a loving caring family like mine just cause of nasty arbitrary stringent standards. Me and my family are excellent caretakers. But because there's tiny clutter and no fenced yard we weren't "acceptable" adopters. ALL of my previous dogs were healthy, strong, never lost; lived til they passed, safe, of old age in our arms. This place needs to stop with their sh---y "need" standards and start looking at who is actually gonna take care of the adoptee pups. read more

The staff at this facility go out of their way ten fold to find the right pet for the right home and the right home for every pet. Adopt as so many loving animals need forever homes you could be lucky enough to be chosen by this group of wonderful people. Apparently if you need to give animal back that you fostered for over 4 months due to medical reasons, their response is fine we will euthanize her. She is a baby and their the response you get from a rescue would never ever do business with them. Apparently don't care about the animals at all it's a disgrace they want to euthanize a baby. I love what they do here. From rescuing animals and caring for them, to offering foster services to adoptions. They truly care for the well being of these animals. We recently adopted a puppy from there who they saved from an out of state kill shelter. Without their help we would not have our newest member of our family. Amazing place to adopt. I loved volunteering here. Most of the negative comments on here are just sad or one sided views because of entitlement. Almost home is not just like any rescue to give their animals to just anyone. They carefully consider who is a perfect fit for the ANIMAL. They make sure the animals go to who best fits the ANIMAL, not who YOU want. Just because you want a certain animal (dog for example) doesn't mean the dog you wanted is a good fit. It's not about you it's about the animal. Some people need to understand that. Both staff and volunteers work hard keeping the place as clean as possible as well. It's a rescue that houses animals that constantly are using the bathroom. It isn't going to smell like peaches and roses lol. And you can't use certain products to clean because it is harmful to the animals. I wish people would do more research before judging or acting out online because something didn't go the way they wanted it to. Also to any rumors, this is a non kill shelter. The ONLY time HUMANE euthanasia is used is if the veterinarian says the animal is too sick OR the animal has bitten multiple people and even with rehabilitation with a professional trainer, the animal has not progressed. Don't bash on a place that is filled with both Staff and volunteers that absolutely adore all the animals there‍‍ read more

It was my first time going to this Rescue and almost right away their first impressions were good. They were very nice and knowledgeable on what dogs they had there knew them all by names. Since their a smaller rescue their dogs get attention frequently by their staff which is good. They get puppy's often they just don't keep them at the rescue instead they stay in a foster home and if you want to see a pup I believe you setup an appointment. If you were coming to this rescue in search for a Bunny or Rabbit they don't take them in anymore. read more

Almost Home was amazing when we adopted our kitten Linus (renamed Elliot) back in May. They were very upfront with us about Elliot having feline herpes and even allowed us to place a non-monetary hold on him until we could talk to the vet and get more information about his condition before deciding to officially adopt him. They were super great at explaining his condition and how he ended up getting it. They also discovered he had an upper respiratory infection and gave us a full weeks supply of antibiotics to make sure he got better as well as giving us a months supply of lysine gel to help manage the herpes. They also covered his first vet visit and the rest of his shots. Dawn was phenomenal to work with and made the process of bringing Elliot home so much easier. She made sure he had a ton of toys to bring home as well as food he was used to eating. She genuinely cares about the animals at her shelter and I could not be happier working with them. Elliot is now a healthy and happy 6 month old kitty who loves to cuddle and play read more

Why would it be like that anything helps I picked this one because a friend adopted a dog there and said they need all the help they can get. But it seems they have a set amount also I saw no pictures of current dogs up for adoption my friend found this by accident and Is very happy with her pet. But not a friendly environment. They have guinea pigs and rabbits that they neglect. They squeeze them in a small room and do not care for them daily. The smell is disgusting and the poor animals are forced to be there. Feces stuck on cages, urine dried on the wall and soaked into the carpet. I had to shower as soon as I got home because my hair smelled like poop. The flies in there were so nasty. I know 1st hand because I volunteered there for a short period of time. I stopped volunteering there after I was given a huge attitude when I asked the staff where the rabbit food was, none was there, and I told them they needed to get more. They had no concern that there was zero pellets, zero hay and zero greens for the rabbits. NO FOOD and they had the nerve to shrug their shoulders at me. I told them it was urgent, we need food today. This was after I brought in 60 pounds of Guinea pig food, x-pens, water bottles, (hay a few weeks prior), spray bottles, scrub brushes ... cant remember everything I donated, but they just expected it and never even said thank you. Told me they thought volunteers would bring the rabbit food pfft How much money are volunteers supposed to spend, its not our job to provide supplies, just care. And if I didn't volunteer that day and demand them to buy food then the animals just don't get any food?! Outrageous. They separate a mom and babies, they get the cheapest crap food when they get any at all, and the disrespect when they talk to you is uncalled for. They don't want to take advice from volunteers of a successful rabbit rescue. We've been saving and caring for rabbits for a long time, with much experience, continuing to educate ourselves and communicating with rabbit savvy vets. They're not willing to learn about proper care and do as they please. They happily keep taking more rabbits and Guinea pigs in even though they dont give them the care they need. I love volunteering but I will only go to places that are respectful and truly care about the animals above their egos. I see an Almost Home staff member at another place I volunteer for and she always gives me dirty looks. It's so unprofessional, really uncalled for and rude. I'm always nice to people, but I will call out animal neglect when I see it. K needs to learn how to be kind to animals and people. read more

Awesome place! So many dedicated volunteers! I volunteer here and I am so happy I do. They really go above and beyond for the animals in their care. Once an animal is rescued and becomes a part of Almost Home it will be checked by a vet, treated for any problems, and made sure it is healthy. The dogs will be walked, socialized and loved by the staff and volunteers. The cats are also well taken care of and loved by the staff and volunteers. Once adopted if it doesn't work out the animal is always welcomed back to Almost Home. They never allow them to go to another shelter, I think it is so awesome that once they are a part of the Almost Home family they always are. Such a great rescue! read more

I would give zero if I could. As a rescuer and volunteer when I first went into this place the walls and floors of their small critter room was caked with urine and piss on the floor. They had some rabbits in tiny cages and when I went to clean it found black mold. There person in charge of the critter room was extremely rude to all the people that came in to help set them up better and for the room to be cleaned. The smell was so bad that you had to leave the room every 10 minutes because of the urine stench. I even made a wishlist and took cute holiday photos but did they use them no. When they had 4 unfixed rabbits together in a small space and they started fight. Tried to advice that they can seriously injure each other. Did their person in charge listen no. Because that person refuses to listen to anyone else and has such a big ego she would rather all those animals to be mistreated then to accept help and advice from experienced people. Stick to cats and dogs. Maybe hire someone for the small critter room that actually cares and will do right by those rabbits. read more

Worst place to go, staff is very rude and the adoption process is rigged if they don't want the animal to go to you they find a way to make that happen even if it means lie to you!!! If I could give zero stars I would, they hold prejudice against people and half the animals in there are maltreated. This place needs to be shut down because they don't do what's best for the animals in there I reported them to the ASPCA, EEOC and the humane society!! I do not recommend going there.... read more

I've been in pre-process of adopting a cat from Almost home. Dawn, in the cattery, was very knowledgeable and open to all questions. Patient. Open. She was a great help in helping me figure out the best match. I was then introduced to Marissa, she has been amazing. With me every step of the process, always available and very helpful. Almost Home seems appropriately thorough, and they should be; the animals they have range from all types of needs and backgrounds and they've just been very helpful and kind. I look forward to proceeding with adoption process. I would recommend working them to anyone who is serious about taking on the responsibility of taking home an animal. They know who needs a bit more work before finding their 'forever home', and are very upfront and honest. Communication is great and they were extremely accommodating and professional.
