We thought the same things about the facility as the reviewer did and decided to enroll our baby. We kept in contact with the director - letting her know when our son was born and when we would be bringing him in to start his care there. When it was finally time for me to go back to work, we took our 9 week old baby in to Happy Hearts only to find that the director that we interviewed in February - the one with the degree in early childhood development - had SOLD the place a week previous and had failed to mention it. We were stunned, but thought we should give the new director a try while we look for alternate arrangements. After one week at Happy Hearts, my baby caught a virus that turned into viral meningitis. He had to be hospitalized for two days and I had to keep him at home for a week after that. When we called the center to let them know what had happened, the director said "well, kids get sick" and still wanted her money for the week he missed due to the crud he caught at her facility. After my baby recovered from the illness, we brought him back in. I started to notice that wherever the caretakers parked him in the morning was the same exact place he would be when I would come to get him in the afternoon. If they put him in a swing, he would be in that same swing hours later. His mood seemed different too - he's usually a vibrant, alert, happy baby and when he would get home from school, he would be lethargic and cranky. But the final nail was when they failed to change his diaper for an entire day. How do I know? It's simple. I brought him to school in a Pampers diaper, but only had Costco diapers in his bag for the day. When I picked him up SIX HOURS LATER, he was still wearing the Pampers diaper and it was super heavy and full of pee and poop. His poor bottom was red and irritated from being forced to sit in his own waste and he was in a horrible cranky mood. The worst part? They LIED about it on the infant log - said they changed his diaper three times that day. Even worse than that - the usual caretakers weren't there that day - instead, the director herself and an assistant were in charge of the babies - so, my son was neglected on the director's watch. So amazingly unacceptable. Thankfully, we've found him a better place to go, so, he will no longer have to suffer at Happy Hearts.

Our son attended for three years (now doing great in elementary school) and our daughter is in her third year and LOVES coming. The long-time staff here are highly professional; they know exactly how to do age-appropriate teaching while making it a joy for the kids. We love that the children get a lot of outside physical movement both on the playground and riding trikes on the slab. This is such a caring and creative environment, where we always feel we know what is going on and our entire family has made great friends. The church also provides wonderful support to the school. I would give this preschool 11 stars if I could. I highly recommend.

The entire staff is amazing and many I have become very close with. The classroom size is super small, so every child has special attention and love. The school frequently provides resources and training for parents, which has been so helpful. Our family has created lifelong friendships with this tight-knit community and we have tons of play dates. The school practices Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP) based learning and each teacher tailors lessons to the specific classroom. My daughter looks forward to "parent helper" days, where mommy gets to come spend the day with her in the classroom. They are very special to her. Finally after a MONTH of reaching out, they emailed back and said they wouldn't have space but would reach out when they did. It's been a year and they've never contacted me. Not that I would send my children here anyways, I'd prefer a daycare I can actually get in touch with if needed... Update: It appears the owner responds via Yelp much faster than their email. And also, even though they didn't officially confirm our spot during the tour, they gave no indication there would be an issue with the approximate start time we were desiring. They are open for long hours which is convenient for trying to balance school and work. The location is incredibly convenient with easy access from South Congress or I-35, Buda, South Austin, etc. They're flexible, recognizing and meeting specific needs of different personalities of the kids. For example on the mornings I have to drop off early for an early class, my daughter cries more, she's tired, and wants human contact. I often see one of the teachers pick her up to comfort her. My daughter is really learning so much there. I'm constantly amazed at how much she knows in terms of vocabulary, songs, motions, and she isn't even 2 yet. It means a lot to me that she is growing up hearing and learning to recognize English and Spanish as well. It seems they're always cooking something up when I get there and it smells great. I know my daughter is eating well there and everything is made with care. The owners even made a delicious brisket and sides from scratch for a Mother's Day luncheon. They're so thoughtful and help with the whole development of my child. I can't say enough good things about them.
