I would never take any form of a doodle here. If you need a dog to get a haircut.... RUN to somewhere else. If there is even a little matting they will shave your dog and look at you like there was nothing they could do. Lazy lazy lazy and over booked (which is unbelievable) and whoever was good at grooming here has left. Been a dog owner for 30 years and this was the laziest joke of a dog salon I have visited. Trey is the man when it comes to dog grooming!! My dog has frequent baths to manage his allergies (and considers me giving him a bath pure torture), so I was incredibly stressed when our regular, super beloved groomer got injured and would be out for a few months. Trey to the rescue!! He is super easy to book with by phone and I loved that he had lots of availability that worked with our schedule. I get anxious when I drop my dog off somewhere new since he can be pretty nervy around other dogs and with baths. So I felt felt super relieved to see that dogs are kept separate in spacious crates when not being actively groomed, and having been 3 times now know that my dog is happy and chill and gets groomed properly while there!! Trey always makes sure pick ups are at the time he says the dog will be ready, and the location is super convenient if you are in the Brentwood area. (Is also a bit cheaper than our old groomer!) We also love that the store (Happy Retales) carries our favorite brand of treats (Bocce Bakery) and has friendly, helpful staff as well! I dont groom my dog often because his breed doesn't require regular trims, but I wanted to find a good groomer. I texted the salon this morning for a grooming appointment and they responded promptly. They even had a cancellation that morning and could squeeze me in! My parents are coming in town, so I wanted Carter spiffy clean. He's a pembroke welsh corgi and just needed a small trim. To me it doesn't seem hard to groom corgis, but I am impressed with the result. I was immediately greeted by one of the groomers who told me he'd been grooming dogs since he was 5. This January my family got our very first puppy! Boo is a fluffy Shih Tzu. Before bringing him home, we stopped by happy retales to snag a couple of essentials. We got a collar, retractable leash, toy, and food/water bowls. The staff is awesome, the employee helped us throughout every step and Boo loved all of the attention. Product selection is pretty good as well, they have everything from puppy preds jerseys to food to crates. Not just items for dogs, they have stuff for gerbils, cats, etc. Four stars due to pricing. My dog never gets groomed. He also has epilepsy. I was in town and needed him groomed quickly. The staff have owned and handled dogs with epilepsy before and really calmed my nerves about leaving him there. I'm not ashamed to admit that we spoil our 2 year old rescue, so we were happy to find Happy Retales where they offer quality brands that other places don't, like Orijen and Fromm. We feed our dog the adult or six fish formula from Orijen, but the staff was more than happy to help and give plenty of samples when we were deciding whether we wanted to switch. They always provide our pup with a treat when visiting, and have even helped me bring a 25lb of food to my car when I was without my husband to help. They also have a rewards program where you get your 12th bag of dog food for free. They really only offer top of the line foods and treats and we've been very pleased with the selection so far. We also regularly buy the earth animal no hide chews as a way to keep our dog busy- highly recommend this product as a great alternative to rawhide and a big plus is that we haven't seen any digestive problems yet! This store is located right next to Publix in Brentwood, and can be easy to miss if you're just driving by. Although it is a little far from where we live, the drive is absolutely worth it knowing that I'm giving my dog the very best while supporting a great cause. read more

Let me open by saying my husband is the least opinionated person I know (let's face it, there can only be room for one of us), but he insisted I give Happy Retales 2 stars and not 3. He said the only reason they even get 2 stars is because our dogs are still alive. I chuckled. I'm giving them 3 stars because I found their grooming prices reasonable and my interactions with one of the groomers when first texting to make an appointment was pleasant and he was accommodating, but that's where my positive experience ends. The reason I wouldn't come back; my dog's cut was the worst aesthetically that he's ever had. My husband says it looks unprofessional. I say it looks the same as the times my husband has clipped him when we are trying to save money in between grooming appointments. That's actually not what upset me the most, but the fact that I never received a call that my dogs were ready. After 4 hours I texted asking for an update (that's how they prefer you reach them for a status). After an hour of no response I call-it rings and goes to voicemail. By now I'm growing concerned and my mind is going cuckoo and I'm thinking one or both of my dogs died and they're too scared to tell me! I decide to just drive over there because I'd be shocked if they weren't ready and it's now been 5.5 hours later. Thankfully, they were alive and ready. The cashier was very dismissive when I let him know my disappointment about getting no phone call. He made excuses about them being really busy and perhaps their text not coming through on my phone. Wow, that's a stretch. It was too much for them to just own it, and for that exact reason they didn't earn my loyalty. read more

Trey is the best with all the dogs I've ever have. He is very gentle with my dog and my dog loves him. I live in Antioch and drive all the way over to Brentwood because it's worth it to take my dog to Trey. The only thing I don't understand is no matter what time I drop him off it takes 5 or 6 hours before he's ready to go. Happy Retales is the retail shop for Happy Tales Humane, the no-kill animal shelter. Most of the proceeds for everything they sell go right back to help the animals. I buy all of my cat's supplies here just for that reason--he was once a stray too! You can find anything you need for your cat or dog here--from food and treats to clothes, collars, and cat litter. It's a smaller store, but packed full with merchandise. The sales folks are nice too, and can usually answer any question you throw at them! It's always nice knowing that when you buy something you need anyway, your money is going to help stray and unwanted animals as well. Much better than shopping at a big-box retailer! They're not friendly at all, I spend a lot of money every time I have come here ($50-$80 each time) and I'm not rude to them. I can be friendly but even when you're just asking about their day it's like they only want you to shut up and let them check you out so they can go back to talking amongst themselves. They rolled their eyes when I asked about some treats for my dog but I held my tongue because my dog really loves the variety of treats they have. The person who posted about the pure breeds thing was right-One of my dogs is a rescue and they were nice to my dog( again not to me) and they rolled their eyes when they asked about my new puppy that I brought in the last week. The first few times they did a fantastic job on my dog. Everyone can make a mistake now and then and this is why I did not rate them 1 star. Be warned! They do not comb even the smallest mat out of the dog's fur. They told me this the first time I dropped off my Chow. However, I really wish they would have taken the minute to call me before shaving off about a golf ball size area on my dogs tail. She did not have that size of a mat there. Then they snipped off the the fur on the end of her tail, to even up the look, they said. It has been over 6 months and my chow's tail is pretty goofy looking. Given the option, I would have said, "don't shave my dog's tail--I will comb it out myself" All other groomers work with a dog's fur when it is matted. My dog gets groomed regularly and her fur is never that matted. I only review this so others will be aware. My dog's tail was not bald, it was shaved down to maybe a 1/4 inch 2" diameter area. Her tail fur is about 2 to 3" long so this large of an area, may as well have been bald. The snipped tail fur at the end has still not grown normal. A Chow Chow's tail fur should never be trimmed. So niceness of the staff - 5 stars. Their prior grooming jobs - 5 stars. My dog's tail looking shabby for over 6 months - 1 star. Go at your own risk. read more

Retales is what I consider a hidden gem. Not only do they have a great location that is easily accessible, they are providing access to amazing pet products via an impeccable staff. Every thing 'pet' you could possibly need is available. Along with that comes a groomer that by far exceeds the abilities of any groomer I have ever met. My dog, Angel, and I, travel extensively. Roughly 90% of the year. When in a city often, I work to find a groomer that will be more permanent so as to have someone I can depend on when in that city. I have 'regular' groomers in Dallas, Houston, Boston, San Francisco, Washington DC, Miami, Salt Lake City, Denver, Nashville (Brentwood), and a few others. Each are very good at their job however none are remotely close to what Trey brings to the table. He is amazingly personable with a handshake every time. He connects with his clientele (pets) much like a great massage therapist does. Clearly he has a natural energy that's fuels his passion for what he does! My little girl has extreme separation anxiety however with him, you would never know the issue existed. It is very possible that you are having your dog groomed elsewhere, as well as very likely getting a good service for your money spent but I assure you that your experience, and your pets experience, is like a candle compared to the sun. read more

How can you not give 5 stars to a pet store that donates 100% of their profits to animal rescue? Happy Retales donates their profits to different pet related charities each year. The store is located in a strip mall in Brentwood. The store isn't a huge one, but is packed to the gills with items for your cat, dog & other little critters. I have two cats, therefore I'm more familiar with the cat section, but I do know that they have a LOT of dog stuff. I'd say that it's 65% dog stuff & 35% cat. They have a lot of different brands that you won't find in the regular, run of the mill pet stores. They also have a lot of different samples of food for you to try for your pet. We have gotten a few samples before to allow our picky eaters a try. The staff is always so friendly & helpful if you have any questions or concerns. This is a great place to spend your money on your furry friend. This is a fabulous store for pets, and humans who like to spoil their fur-babies. The reviews below are great, but I would like to add they also have a little grooming shop in the back of the store. Banjo, my pug, loved her bath, and they even gave her a cute little scarf as a parting gift. She looked adorable and was so soft! They gentleman who groomed her even saved me a little money. Was very kind, so I tipped extra. The staff in the store are so knowledgeable and friendly, and loved playing with Banjo. She has a sensitive tummy, so they recommended treats, and toys that would be easy on her. She loves everything we bring home. We also love to pop in for greeting cards and little gifts for dog / cat lovers. I got a cute pug cup, and there is a really cute painting I may have to get when I go back! Happy Retales, or "Pet Supplies" as it is signed in the Maryland Farms shopping strip, is the place for the organic, best for you pet, supplies. The people working here clearly love animals and it is clearly displayed that all proceeds are given to a non-profit that supports abandoned animals. On many of my visits, there are puppies in the store that have been abandoned in the community and they are working to get them adopted. Great people. The only subtraction of one star for this outlet is the slow service. You will spend more time in line even if you are the only person, due to their slow POS system.
