I was getting kind of hangry and saw Happy Taco along the roadside. There was a banner hanging that said Taco Tuesday, three tacos for $5, since it was Tuesday we went ahead and stopped. We were greeted as soon as we walked in. We got our soft drinks and menus and looked them over and ordered. One $5 Tuesday special and one chimichanga. The food wasn't bad. Not great, but not bad. Chips and salsa were served, the salsa was okay, again not bad, but not great. The tacos and chimichanga fall into that category, too, thus the three star rating. I have to comment that the prices on soft drinks and a side of queso must be pretty hefty as the bill was $30 for the two of us. The servings were not that large, either. Just an observation, I didn't complain. I won't be in a hurry to go back - but it did resolve my hanger problem! read more

Today was my first time ever stopping by this place, and i do not regret stopping by. Starting off, I love the atmosphere. It has that small roadside taco shop vibe with a local twist. I also love the fact that it's a local business and not a giant corporate chain which you can tell by their focus on the customer. The place is small so i can see it being hard to find a place to sit on a really busy day but they do offer take out service too. You self serve your drinks but they bring everything else to the table. My server, i believe his name is Ian but not sure, was great. He made suggestions, the beef rice bowl was amazing, and made me feel welcomed unlike so many big chains these days. The food! I mean what could I say about the food? AMAZING! That's what. The chips are made in house and are delicious. The salsa and queso are both great and flavorful. Not watered down like some places. I came on a Tuesday and their special was three tacos. I took mine crunchy and supreme. The shells are made in house, like the chips, and a very scrumptious. They crunchy but hold up well and do not get soggy. I wish i would of noticed the topping options before but what i got, the supreme toppings, was very delicious so i can not complain about having another reason to come back here to try them all. I also got the beef rice bowl with added grilled onions and peppers. It was also amazing and the serving size was bigger than expected, which is really nice because i get to take some home. The price is not bad, after all you get what you pay for. Well, not really here because i feel like you get more than you pay for compared to these other places. Based on the quality and service i believe the price to be really really fair. Overall, i could not recommend trying this place more because I literally have nothing bad to say about this place. I wanted to love this place. I love the idea of a small, locally-owned restaurant . And both the young men who've served me here have been so polite and helpful. But I've tried two times, ordered two different meals (tacos then nachos) and both were soggy messes. I'm not sure why. Maybe they don't drain the grease or broth from the meat. But both times I was only able to eat half of my food because the bottom was in a pool of something wet. Don't think I'll be back. read more

Finally had the pleasure of visiting the Happy Taco truck today. I ordered the Three Amigos Tacos with steak, supreme style (with tomatoes and sour cream). The steak was marinaded very well and grilled nicely with burnt ends. They loaded these puppies up with lettuce and cheese. Let's taco bout how happy my mouth was while eating it! I wish they had accoutrements such as, jalapeños, onion, and salsa. But, that's not a deal breaker for me. Definitely adding this into the rotation for take-out. read more

I visited Happy Taco's location on US-29 in Cantonment twice this past week. Certainly a step up from Taco Bell, although that is not intended as a slight against Happy Taco. Overall I enjoyed the experience and would return. I've tried the beef tacos and steak quesadilla. The tacos were good and reasonably priced, although the crunchy shells easily fell apart, I liked the taste of the tacos. The quesadilla was alright although it was not my favorite. At $10, it could have been better. When I tasted steak, it was flavored well. The sour cream drizzled in the top was more liquid than cream. The pico was good. The fried rice was flavored and cooked well. Chips and salsa are provided when seated, which is nice to begin the meal. The salsa was quite mild. Workers were friendly and attentive. read more

I've passed by this place so many times but looking at the building, had assumed it couldn't be that great. Well, momma always said... don't judge a book by it's cover and this is why! Its small and quaint inside but it's clean. The owner and nice lady who cooks are super nice. Would be a lil better if their waiter got some training because while he's nice, he's definitely not a waiter. Now getting to the important part, the food is AWESOME! I have to start by saying that we actually ate in the New Happy Taco 2 on Fairfield. They don't have their Yelp site up yet...so this review is not for their food truck or the restaurant on Hwy 29. The manager and the one waitress we saw were extremely nice. Very cordial and eager to please. Unfortunately the food didn't match the service. The chips were ice cold and even though we purchased the premium side to go with the chips (which promises unlimited chips) we didn't get refills of chips. One of us ordered steak nachos...the steak was cold, gristly, and just not acceptable by any Mexican standards...we've never had bad steak at a Mexican restaurant before. Another of us ordered the grilled burrito. The person that ordered it said "It wasn't horrible"...but the ones he makes at home are way better. I ordered the puffy taco because they claimed it was the menu item that made them famous. If that's true the people that have ordered it had no taste! The shell was chewy, contents were slim and cool to the touch. There were about 10 little strings of cheese on it...Taco Bell does better than that! I'm allergic to cilantro so we asked if we could just have fresh diced tomatoes rather than salsa or pico...they said they had no fresh tomatoes in house. I asked how they made Pico without fresh tomatoes....in a few minutes fresh tomatoes showed up on table! After the puffy Taco I decided to try their cheese quesadilla. I had fresh tomatoes still so it made since. It came out actually hot and fresh from the kitchen! On the side was a one ounce cup (seriously!) of watered sour cream. Who waters down sour cream???? Now I was courteous so I ordered a side of rice and a side of refried beans. The beans were fine...the Mexican rice was awful! Crispy, dried out and not edible. (Stick with Taco Bell's rice...or any local Mexican restaurant but this one) . We asked about green sauce...which is classic...the owner told us it was too time consuming to make ( that in fact is BS if you've ever watched, Top Chef, Chopped, or Bobby Flay! It just takes 3 or 4 minutes and a blender to make delightful fresh green sauce. The owner told us as we left that he would be thinking about making some. It's possible that if they used real dishes rather than paper plates the food may have been warm...like in all the other Mexican restaurants. It's almost like they're trying to run a food truck out of brick and mortar! That is not going to work! They have no classic tasty Mexican entries...it's all fast food...disappointing fast food at that! No carne asada...no grilled chicken breast with beans, rice and salad...no hot plates or soups...I just don't think the concept will survive. He should have just bought three more food trucks if he wasn't skilled or committed enough to do full Mexican sit down. Sad!! I hope he makes changes before he loses his investment. I've never eaten from the food truck, however, I have tried the restaurant location in Cantonment twice and the one on Fairfield approximately five times now. So far every experience was good. I've had the chicken chimichangos, the best I've had so far. They only use dark meat so it's not dried out chicken breast, which I've had at other places. Also had the loaded nachos, which took three of us to eat, as well as the chicken soft taco with lettuce, cheese, cilantro and lime. Everytime, we've had fresh chips with salsa and queso, with free refills of chips. We love the chips, very thin, light and just right amount of salt. The cashiers have always been very nice and explained the menu items to me. So far, we haven't had a bad experience. I do hope the Fairfield location works out for them. It's not the best area of town, but it's the one close to my drive everyday. read more

This is a truck that needs to be a franchise restaurant. The food is amazing! The service is great! The first day we went there I ordered a combo fajita plate. It was delicious! Like nothing I've ever eaten before. Everything is made fresh to order, so you're going to wait, but it's worth it. The loaded queso fries are off the meter! I was very disappointed at this place. We wanted to go there and enjoy it. It's not a food truck but an actual restaurant. We sat down and I stood in line to order. I was in line 20-25 min before we left. First, they had nothing on while preparing food. No hairnets. No gloves. No masks. No aprons. Nothing. There were three ladies behind the front counter. One was taking a patrons order. It took a full 10-15 Min for her to get her order taken. Then she had to ring her up. The other two ladies were just standing there. One was drumming her hands on the counter. Then 10 min into my time she finally takes the next lady in line and asks her order and she pays. There's no more people ahead of me. Another ten min goes by. A lady is there to pick up a to go order. She placed the order while she was there. They call her name. She goes up and says "this was supposed to be to go". The person behind the counter argues with her and says "the lady who placed the order didn't say that" small argument goes on about. Then the person behind the counter says it doesn't matter and boxes it up. So it's just me and the guy behind me waiting now to order. Still two people available to take our order while the First Lady is still ringing up the woman in front of me. Some man from the back walks up close to the counter. Looks at me. Mouths something to one of the Ladies behind the counter. She laughs. Looks at me and I can see her mouth "which one" and look at me again. Phone rings. Same girl picks up the phone and takes an order. She can take a phone order but not help those standing in line. After she answers the phone, the lady who I assume was a manager or owner, mocks the way she answered the phone to a paying customer and says "That's the way I would have answered it". Then the girl asks her the difference between a burrito and a chimichanga. The other lady mocks her saying "You don't know the difference". Then she proceeds to, in a mocking tone, explain the difference to her. At this point, I was done. Rude to a paying customer. Not wearing any protective equipment while preparing food. Talking about patrons while they can see you. Mocking another employee. And just standing around when there were plenty of people to take orders. I'm not a fan of giving bad reviews and will actually take quite a lot but this was beyond unprofessional. I put down the menu and asked my family to leave. We hadn't even ordered yet. Our first visit was great! My kids loved it. So naturally my kids wanted to go again. Unfortunately this time we were all disappointed. The queso was so watery and it just slipped off the chip.
