Last Spring during all the storms, a large (6ish foot long) dead branch fell on our (very expensive and very new) roof and punctured a hole into it. CRAP. We got it fixed and it made us decide to get the huge tree in our backyard that hangs over the house trimmed. There were several dead areas on it. We'd been thinking about it for awhile, but of course didn't do anything about it til it hurt our house. What does a girl do when she needs a tree trimmed? She checks Yelp! Very few tree services are reviewed. We called a four, including Happy Tree. Three called back and came out to give us estimates. The first one estimated $1800. Gulp. Happy Tree came out and gave us a $500 bid. SCORE! The third place bid $550. I learned that these estimates can vary a lot! I'm not the only one who this happened to. We were impressed that Happy Tree brought their insurance information with them and gave us a copy. It took a long time for them to get to us (6 weeks) but I don't blame them after the Spring we had. They came out and left our tree looking much healthier! Our only complaints are the wait time (we were worried that we'd have another storm and get more damage) and that the workers left trash (cups and food wrappers) on our property. Can't they carry a trash bag? Anyhow, not a big deal for $500! read more

These folks were 25% cheaper than two other bids. They showed up when they said they would. Took down the tree flawlessly and it was very complex. They had to use a bucket truck over our pool and fence. No damage to anything. They ground the stump out and cleaned up everything. Very professional and friendly. We had Happy Tree cut down three huge oak trees. We asked for all the wood to be left beside our driveway for the front tree and the backyard tree logs to be put behind the tree so we could cut it up. Came home and they put most of the thousand pound logs on our paver patio which now has sunken pavers and moved pavers. Had to fight with him to come remove them and now will be fighting about our damaged paver patio. I also had to call them twice to get them to remove the huge pieces they left in my neighbors yard. Luckily I have pics of the amount of weight they put on the patio and pictures of the damage they caused. Be cautious!!! read more

I signed a contract to have two trees cut down at my home. Happy Trees service had Missouri dig rite come out and mark my gas lines and I was told they would be out within 1-2 weeks. They no showed. I have since called twice and again was told they would come, and again they no showed each time. I am very disappointed. read more

If you had a tree service and had people scheduled out weeks in advance, wouldn't it make sense that if 4 days of rain had put you behind, that you weren't going to get to some of the other scheduled jobs on time because 4 days of work is a substantial amount to overcome to put you back on schedule? Maybe give those customers a call and ask if they would like to reschedule for when you can be sure to make it, INSTEAD of waiting until the customers second call, the day of the appointment, at 2:30 in the afternoon, to let them know how far you are behind and that you didn't have to burn a day of PTO because they can't get to your home until after 4:00 PM? SERIOUSLY?? I'll be fair with critiquing the actual service because it's not the crews fault the office can't keep their act together. UPDATE! The tree crew was OUTSTANDING! They did a GREAT job and were very concerned I was happy with the job. I will admit, based on what the individual told me they would do in "cleaning out the dead limbs" raised my expectation a bit too high and did not exactly sit well with the crew, but the did clean out all the dead limbs, even the small ones that made the tree look shabby. This company has dumped branches and dead limbs on our property and when called and asked to clean it up, the owner said that "he took all 15 guys who work for him and asked who dumped the branches and none of them said that they did it" and therefore assures me that it wasn't any of his guys. Despite the fact that a neighbor saw his truck doing this. The owner wanted to charge me to come and clean up what they dumped! read more

We hired Happy Tree to remove a mid sized tree that had grown into the power lines, as well as several large branches from other trees. The estimate was considerably less than 2 other companies' bids; Happy Tree arrived when they said they would; they did a fine job of trimming and removing without incident; they cleaned up thoroughly when finished. They also discouraged our removing a tree (which would have meant more income for them) because they felt the tree was not sick or dangerous. The workers were also all courteous. I was very disappointed with Happy Tree. I made an appointment for an estimate and made arrangements to remain at home for the entire 4 hour window I was given. Close to 4 p.m. (end of the window) I made a follow-up call and was advised he was "just running late". They never showed up or even called me. They did a great job trimming a large tree on our deck. They moved all the deck furniture and flower pots aside so nothing would potentially get damaged. They also did a great job after the job was over of cleaning up the deck (raked and blew off all small debris on the deck and the grass below and made sure that curbside by the wood chipper everything was cleaned up as well..I highly recommend Happy Tree Service. read more

We have now used happy tree service 3 times in as many years. First time was to remove 30 trees, second time was to remove a couple trees and dead wood some others. This past time was to remove an 80 foot pine and deadwood a huge oak. Pricing has always been fair, employees super nice and know their tree health, and their clean up impeccable. We had them cut most trees to fire burning length, always oblige. I can honestly say it's hard to know any tree work has been done because they leave our yard better than they found it. Happy Tree did provide me with a cheaper bid than other companies and the actual job of taking down the trees was done appropriately and looked nice. However, during the process they damaged our garage and broke the rocks/cement that were holding them in next to the stairs near the garage. Also, they did not call to have our electric turned back on, as agreed upon as standard procedure, which resulted in us losing half of a beef that was in our freezer. The job was completed mid-day and when the Ameren employee arrived at 8pm, after me calling to take care of their mess, the Ameren employee informed us that we were the 3rd home in a short period that had encountered this same issue. As for the damages, Happy Tree did finally come look at the damages of which we agree on deducting $25 for lab for us to fix the rocks ourselves and that materials would be deducted at the time of payment, along with an attached receipt to show proof. We fixed the rocks, and Happy Tree sent someone out to paint the garage with a sprayer, as we had done just a few months prior. After a week or two we had not received a bill and the damaged to the garage bled back thru the paint. Again, I contacted Happy Tree and they said they would send someone out. This time I never hear from anyone for over a month then I receive my bill. The day after I received my bill I called the number on the invoice regarding the unfixed damages and was told Jeremiah would call me back. I wait 3 day and hear nothing from Jeremiah so I send a trackable letter stating that once the damages are fixed I would be happy to pay the bil, but not until then will they receive any funds. Four days later I get a call from the repair man who sets up an appointment to come out the next day. He shows up and gets out his roller and paint pan. I informed him that the garage would have to be sprayed, as he had prior, and that you can not roll asbestos shingles that are grooved or it will not fill everything in, it will run and look horrible! The repair man calls Jeremiah to tell him I want the garage sprayed. Jeremiah was clearly saying "NO" because the repair man was telling him that it s our property and thats what we want done. I them speak with Jeremiah who tells me he will not spray the garage and that the repair man will leave and that he will see me in court. I told Jeremiah that was fine if thats what he felt he needed to do but that it is my home and I expect the damages to be fixed as they were before his crew arrived--I have no doubts that a judge would agree with replacing damaged items how they were found. I never tried to not pay this bill--even tho we did not have a signed contract, however I do expect my property to be in the condition it was in when they arrived. This has been going on since March 11, 2014---Jeremiah is a horrible business man who is unwilling to fix his damages properly and is not willing to own up to his mistakes, such as not contacting Ameren to reconnect the utility line!!! Although, they did do good tree work; I would NEVER recommend Happy Tree to anyone!!! Dealing with uneducated people of this sort is much more painful than paying a few extra dollars for a company that is reputable! read more
