Davey tree Service trimming trees for Ameren along Laclede Station road in Webster Groves Missouri. I have never been more angry in my life. I understand there is nothing I can do about trees getting trimmed along wires, and understand that it needs to be done, but the utter destruction of the trees (many just being lopped off and not just trimmed along the street) is ridiculous. Along with dropping the tops of trees and destroying plants outside of the easement is unacceptable. After the March storms that passed through our area, we had a large Maple tree that was split and threatening to fall on our house. I just needed a few branches chopped off the tree but the individual and I chatted for a much longer time wandering the yard talking about trees and bushes to add in the future. I gave an open schedule (ie no set time or date) to come and knock out the small job. The crew showed up, masked up, and then proceeded with the job. When they were done there were no bits or branches laying around. If you didn't know the tree was trimmed you would never have guessed a crew was there. The communication through the whole process was good both with e-mail and calls. The bill could be paid by check or online (AND not need an account for a single bill!). This is a long story so I'll try to condense. I called for a bid. He came when I wasn't home from work. Gave me the info and it sounded good so I signed on. I asked if they could take some limbs that were next to the fence while they were here. He said Yes. He said he didn't know when they would come because they were going out of state to help with the floods. OK. Long wait. They finally gave me 2 dates that they were coming. I took off work. They didn't show. Weather was iffy. They didn't call. Then one icy day while I was at work my neighbor said they were there working. No call that they were coming. Another day the same thing. I was at work. No heads up. The limbs were not taken away by the fence. I called twice. Nothing. No return call. So, I never was able to actually talk to anyone in person so they could SHOW me what they were going to do. OK that was dead of winter. Now that the trees are green there are still some dead limbs hanging and the trees are still hanging over my roof. The roof was my main concern. Notes said take limbs 10 feet from roof. I thought that meant away from the roof not above the roof. Had I been able to speak with someone we could have had a discussion about it. So, I am wrong for trusting them to do what was best. That was a Hella lot of money for nothing really. No money left to do anything else. No communication from them at all. Way to take care of people. I will be sure to spread the word. If there was a way to give more than 5 stars this company deserves it. We had a huge pine tree leaning towards our neighbors house. We had used Daveys before and we immediately called them. The representative showed up quickly said the tree was pulling out of the ground and need to come down. He gave us a quote and said they could get it safe that afternoon. It had begun to split at the base. We were concerned the tree would fall in a heavy wind. We were convinced that the most affordable way to address it was to remove it. We contacted Davey Tree for removal of a dying, gall-infested large 60+ year old oak tree in our small South City backyard. It was a challenging job due to the size of the tree and the tight space to work in, but the tree was becoming a hazard and needed removal before any further property or people were harmed. Stephen quoted the job and was very upfront and informative about the removal process and the very manual nature of the job, again due to the tight work space. He patiently answered all my questions, and he also worked with me on the scheduling of the job, since we AND our neighbors would need power drops each day, and we wanted to wait until the weather cooled. Stephen took care of scheduling the daily power drops with Ameren as well. We scheduled the tree removal to begin on Oct. 9th, and Nick and his team arrived promptly that morning to begin the work. The entire removal took 6 days, and the team cleaned up as much as possible each day, with a full clean-up on the final day, removing as much of the resulting sawdust, etc. as could be reasonably expected (and there was A LOT...at one point it looked like it had snowed in the yard!). Nick and team also put all other yard items back where they found them in our and our neighbors yard, including fences they needed to take down to haul out the debris. In my opinion, these guys all went above and beyond to make this difficult and expensive process as painless as possible! They came out a few days later to fell the tree. The tree fell perfectly away from the house, wall, and pool into the creek behind the property. Davey tree service was cutting down a tree across the very narrow street from my house and parked, at 7:30 am, directly behind my driveway with their big truck with equipment on it. I realized I couldn't get out of my driveway due the Daveys truck being parked where they were (and in front of the fire hydrant) so I hesitated pulling out of my driveway at which point the worker from Daveys motioned to me that I could pull out without hitting anything instead of getting in the truck to move it. I then hit my mailbox and scratched my car. I called Daveys and spoke to JOHN and explained what happened 10 DAYS ago and he said "let me call my crew and I will call you back." I finally decided to do something with 2 extremely large tree's in my backyard. Had several tree companies come out and give me a bid and I went with Davey. Big Mistake! I took off work that day since I wanted to watch them. They were also going to cut down the honeysuckle in my yard and raise the crown of a tulip tree in the front. They were to show up at 8am on Wednesday morning. Well, Wednesday they were no show/no call. I called the office at 9:30 am and Greg, the fellow who gave me the bid, said they wouldn't be out because it stormed over the weekend and they have other work to tend to. When I asked why he didn't let me know ahead of time, since I had to rearrange things at work to be off, he said "I didn't know it was going to storm". WTF? My experience was very good. The estimator was timely and efficient. The tree trimmers were delayed due to big storms (love ya STL!), but trimmed and cleaned up my large oak tree very nicely. I was concerned about changing the natural shape of the tree, and care was taken to trim it up and remove deadwood without taking unnecessary limbs. At the end of the service during clean up, I noticed some deadwood and a limb I wanted removed. Even though I know it was painful for the guys to take the time to reclimb the tree and remove the limbs, they did as I requested without any pushback. Unfortunately, this company quoted us one price and then billed us another to plant a few trees. The bill came in for 1000.00 instead of the quoted 400.00!!!!! When we asked them to explain, they told us we had to pay for their crew to warm up in the morning which took time (what?) and that we were responsible for the 2.5 hours it took their crew to find our trees at the nursery even though they refused to take our invoice number the day before when we told them the nursery needed that. (yes, it's true) What company bills their clients for their warm up time and circumstances out of our control. So disappointed! We settled for 600.00 to get this off our plate which was 200 way too much. Holy cow.....I guess they can get lost for a few hours and bill you??? I guess they can say there was an accident and it took them an extra two hours to get to the job? They will do it....they did it to us. Shameful. read more

I recently had a large limb from an Oak tree crash onto a nearby Dogwood tree in the middle of the night. Unfortunately the Dogwood Tree was completed destroyed. I contacted Davey Tree service very early the next morning and reached Karl Dryer. Within 30 minutes, Mr. Dreyer arrived at my house and gave me a very fair and reasonable estimate for the removal of the oak limb and the dogwood tree. I was hosting a party two days later so I wanted the limb and tree removed as quickly as possible. I left for work and when I returned that evening, the limb and Dogwood tree had been removed. The yard was pristine. Karl Dreyer and his crew did excellent work. While I was sorry to lose the Dogwood tree, I can not say enough about the good work done by Davey. They pruned the Oak tree where the limb had fallen and cleaned the yard of all debris. The snowstorm of March 24 laid a huge chunk of an evergreen tree on the roof. Got several recommendations on tree companies and called around. Ended up going with Davey Tree (good response on the phone & good Angie's list rating). Jen in the office was great - highly customer oriented and personable, even went to get the sales guy (Ross) when I called back (didn't just throw me into voicemail). Ross came to bid the job when he said he would, and did not keep me waiting. EJ and Jake did the tree work when I was told to expect them, and did an outstanding job. My concerns were people not showing up when they said they would, leaving a mess, and receiving an invoice that didn't match the bid. I actually am kind of surprised that I didn't have to worry about any of that. It's kind of rare in today's business world to receive top notch service from everyone in a company that I deal with, but all four were customer oriented, friendly, and did such a great job. The invoice was exactly what was stated on the bid. I was also struck by how Ross and EJ love trees. I've used other tree companies in the distant past, and I don't remember anyone admiring or taking such good care of the trees in the yard before (it was just a job to the other guys).
