Wow, we decided to outfit our new garage and this store has the mother load in tools, housewares, specialty tools, yard care, and more. We bought a terrific garage tool organizer with power outlet and light for $79! What?! We intended to buy 2 or 3, but the store only had one left. Very helpful employee let us know that they receive shipments twice each week and to check back. We also scored a phenomenal deal on a full swivel full tilt flat screen tv mount for over our fireplace, paid $39.99. Best Buy wanted $199 for the Rocketfish brand, we saved $160 by just getting the lesser known brand but literally exact same item (reviews show 5 stars across the board!). The store is in a nondescript strip of stores off of Capital Blvd, and the store itself is quite jam-packed with merchandise and a bit overwhelming. However, great deals abound! We will definitely be back to gather more garage shelving, tools, etc.! read more

At the end of the day, Harbor Freight sells cheap Chinese knockoff tools at low prices. If you're looking for some light duty tool to use as a weekend warrior, what they have might do the job. I've bought a fair amount of stuff there but my expectations are modest. While they're not quite throw away, they're generally not far from it. I have a HF hand sledge hammer ("drillers hammer") that is a favorite. There's no two surfaces on the hammer that are in the same plane as the other surface.... but to balance that out, the handle hole was drilled off-center . It's so ridiculously bad, it funny...but hey, it's something to smash other things with so it OK for the low price. The floor help is hard to find and the store smells like cheap Chinese goods. That's because it's full of cheap Chinese goods. Be realistic with your selections and you'll be OK. They're not SnapOn--- or Cornwell.... or S-K, or Craftsman but they may be OK for what you're needing it for , and if you don't place any value in pride of ownership. PS: I know some of those brands are now made in China too. I buy older tools made in US whenever possible). read more

Let me tell you about these wonderful people. My fiance and I went in this morning and they were having a huge labor day sale. Super busy. We were buying a trailer and already knew that they might not have it in stock. We had a coupon but didn't read the fine print that this coupon didn't work on trailers. My fiance had gotten money from his parents for his birthday and that's all the money we had (things are pretty tight right now). Tonya, the cashier was super apologetic and we assured her it wasn't her fault. We went to look at the other trailers to see if a smaller one would fit our budget. Two minutes later, Don, the general manager asked if we needed any help (Tonya had called him without us asking) and he found us a coupon that saved us MORE money than we would have with our previous coupon. Not only did we get the trailer but Don and Tony both waited (even with the store being super busy, helping customers when they could) for us to bring our car up and they both helped my fiance put the trailer in our car. We are two very happy customers and they have wonderful customer service. I will call the toll free number as well because they all deserve recognition. This company provides an abundance of tools at fantastic prices. However, this particular location is poorly managed. Big ticket items are mislabeled and then can't be located in the back, employees are apathetic at best, lines are 6 people deep on a good day, and cashiers are incredibly slow. Even on a Tuesday afternoon, this location is worse than Walmart on Black Friday. read more

I went into the harbor freight on Capital Blvd to buy a hand truck tires. I was standing behind this elderly lady that was buying an item too. The woman manager rang her up. The elderly lady paid her item with a $100 bill. I watched her hand this rude ass manager the bill. When this manager gave the lady her change, it was short. So the elderly lady told this woman that she was short change because she gave her $100 bill. Without double checking her cash register. This stupid manager gave this elderly an attitude. Saying "you didn't give me no $100 bill you gave me $20 bill". When I heard the way she talk to this elderly lady, it got my blood boiled. I step in and told this stupid manger that I saw the elderly lady handed her a $100 bill. She got the nerve and tell me " I knew what I took and it ain't no $100 bill". She also said that the elderly was her first cash customer and she doesn't have $100 bill in her register. So I loudly told her to open the dam register and see if there is $100 bill in there. She also loudly told me that she will open the dam register to prove to me that there is no dam $100 bill in there. When she open it. She was speechless. So I asked her, WANT BILL DO YOU SEE IN THERE. Then she finally said I a low tone "$100". I told this manager that she owe this elderly lady an apology. This stupid manager ignore me and just give the elderly the correct change and that was it. Didn't admit it was her fault or nothing. What kind of person does that. Quality control/manufacturing unsatisfactory. I purchased a 10" compound miter saw online. The manual states that extension supports connect to sides of table and will be level with surface of saw. (For those of us who do fine woodworking and need accurate cutting, this is very important) As it was, the extensions are not level with the surface of the saw; the extensions are approx. 1/8" below the table surface and will adversely affect the cut. I contacted the company and they would not acknowledgement the problem. They said I could return it, shipping and restocking fees at my expense (which would be about half the price of the saw.) Since it's their design flaw, it should be their responsibility to fix it! We know where that's going to go. read more

I bought a Cycle Tree Compast Bike Storage online after seeing a friends. Thought it solved my bike storage issues really well. Paid $40 plus $6 in shipping. The rack arrived in a huge cardboard box, that was partially taped shut, with parts sticking out the top, a smaller box taped up inside with some of the hardware, no invoice and anybodies guess on how to assemble. While I understand accidents happen with Fed EX, what I dont understand, is all over HF web site it states to call this 800 for replacement parts. When I called I was asked to email my request, I hit zero a bunch of times and got a customer noservice rep in the UK. I was told I would have to 5 to 7 days for parts, after the request was made which would take 3 to 4 days. When I requested a copy of the invoice I was told that could not be done until the next day, in actuality it took 3 days to arrive in my email. I sent a email to Eric Smidt president of HF, with no repsonce to their horrible customer service. When I called today which is the 9th day I was given a tracking # which showed the parts not arriving for another 3 to 4 more days. End results: I would not buy online from this company, there is no support system in place should you have problems. read more

Haven't been here very much but today I witnessed a poor customer service interaction that left me feeling frustrated. The store was busy and an elderly man was attempting to buy an air hose and a tire and use two coupons. The total was $99. He was hard of hearing and the girl behind the counter wasn't speaking up. Something occurred with the stores system and the man who was hard of hearing didn't understand what was happening. Instead of calling for authorization and re-ringing the guys purchases he reluctantly agreed to come back another day and make his purchases. The manager gave the cashier permission to do the transaction as long as it was below $100 without calling for authorization and she didn't. She cancelled out his order and he left empty handed. We were next in line (3 lines with at least 7 people in each line) and she's still trying to go through the marketing prompts (email, phone, do you get our catalogue) and I'm standing there thinking, 'You have the time to collect the name of my unborn and the first three digits of my aunt's sister's phone number, then you could have re-rung that man's purchases.' It just made me so ill. She was obviously flustered and needed to be trained on managing large crowds of customers. Don't come here on the weekend if you want to avoid the crowd. The store was clean and the floor employees were helpful so that's a plus. read more

Plan on only buying tools here that you will use for a few months. I bought their 18 volt cordless combo pack and got a small circular saw, cordless drill, reciprocating saw, and a flash light. It came in a nice plastic carrying case with a charger and two batteries. Problem was the battery charger was garbage, they do warn you not to leave in the charger for more than two hours and I forgot as I am used to chargers shutting down after the battery is charged. The second battery did not last much longer. I needed to use these tools so I called to order two new batteries and was told they do not make them anymore and was out of luck. I called to find out if I would be able to connect the propane weed torch to a smaller than 20 lbs tank since I have a bad back and would not be able to lug the tank around while torching weeds. I was transferred to three people and the consensus was yes I could. I live a good 45 minute drive from this store. The next day I drove to Raleigh and on the box it said I could only attach a 20 lb propane tank to the device. An employee verified this as well. This is very disappointing since anyone could have looked at the box when I called to tell me this and save me my time, gas and afternoon! Not Happy. read more
