Think hard, don't lie to yourself... Does your child need a bit of support academically? Do you…read morethink they might? Do you want small class sizes? Are they on meds that need to be administered at school? Are they Neurodiverse (Dyslexic, Anxiety, ADHD, Autistic, Dyscalculia, etc.)? If you have answered yes to any of these questions, this school probably isn't for you. We really loved the school when the kid was younger. But, partway through the lower school, supports and amenities suddenly got a lot more scarce! The Middle School is even worse. Were the staff at fault? Usually not. Decisions were made and the kids that needed a bit of help paid the price. There isn't a school nurse. They have remodeled some of the specialist-type classrooms to convert them into classrooms. There has been quite a bit of staff leaving in the last 5 years. There isn't a real 9:1 kid to teacher ratio in practice, they use alternative accounting practices including counting staff members like the librarian (kids see the librarian for an hour or less per week while most teachers rush back to their rooms for preparation time leaving the librarian often alone with the kids). Teacher assistants in the lower school are not necessarily full time and are often pulled from class to cover teachers and things like playground duties. The administration is actively trying to add more students per class, and more classes overall, as all administrators are prone to do. In short, while it is a beautiful school, it isn't for everyone. Try not to be dazzled and ask the hard questions. See if this is right for your family. It is an expensive question to get wrong.

Trigger warning: inappropriate touch involving children…read more We ultimately decided to withdraw our child due to ongoing concerns with communication, consistency, classroom structure, and how sensitive situations involving children were handled. One of our biggest concerns was learning after the fact that inappropriate boundary related behavior had reportedly been occurring between children at the school. Administration disclosed this to us after incident with our child and stated it's been happening in the school but quickly minimized it as something that was "what difference would it have made if I told you before hand because it didn't not involve your child". Parents were not proactively informed that this had become an ongoing issue, which meant families were not given the opportunity to reinforce conversations about appropriate and inappropriate touch at home. I even gave them examples of how a close friends of mine school handled it when it was happening at their child's school. Our child later disclosed that another child had inappropriately touched them. We requested an incident report and expected the situation to be handled objectively, professionally, and with appropriate communication. We wanted it documented and our child moved out of that class. They were very hesitant on documenting it and dismissing the report before even investigating it. Even with it happening in the school before my child disclosed. Unfortunately, the way the situation was handled left us questioning whether it was impartial. This was especially concerning because we had previously received multiple reports of the same child hurting our child. There were also multiple occasions when our child did not want to attend school because of this child; something we had communicated to the school before we understood the full reason behind it. We also experienced ongoing staffing and classroom concerns. Teachers were frequently absent, children were regularly moved between classrooms, and the overall structure and consistency declined significantly. We genuinely believed in the program and even referred two families before the significant staffing changes. In our experience, things noticeably declined after administrator Hailey left. Another concern arose when we received our child's belongings after withdrawing them. We were told the school's policy was to clean and sanitize water bottles daily. Our child had only attended one day that week, yet the water bottle was returned in visibly poor condition and was missing the internal straw, making it unusable. We contacted the school about this and were disappointed by what we received back. There were teachers who genuinely cared for our child, and we are very grateful for those relationships. Miss Tiona, Miss Kyla, and Leianna were wonderful to our family and our child. Ultimately, the combination of poor communication, lack of consistency, staffing changes, and our concerns about how sensitive situations were handled caused us to lose trust in the program. For those reasons, we would not recommend this school.

Our kids are very athletic and we have one that is attending a D2 school on athletic scholarship and our other children are competing in sports and getting play time and those sports that LCA does not offer, like Lacrosse, they are able to play through our neighborhood high school. I've watched it decline more and more since I graduated. The grade level education does not meet the level of education at public schools and especially does not compete with other private schools. Many students who left Life Christian felt under prepared at other schools because of the gap in education. Math and science programs are purposely under funded. The nepotism, rampant misogyny and over sexualization of young women, and unhealthy power dynamics should send any parent running from this institution.

What we experienced instead was a pattern of dismissiveness, racial insensitivity, and unequal treatment that ultimately forced us to withdraw. From minimizing legitimate safety concerns, to racially harmful classroom experiences, to public humiliation of our child in front of the school, to incidents of racism in kindergarten that we were never informed about, we repeatedly watched the burden of accountability get placed on families instead of leadership. We also experienced clear boundary violations, including our child being posted publicly after we explicitly did not consent. When we raised concerns, the response escalated into what felt like surveillance and retaliatory treatment during our withdrawal process, creating an atmosphere that was tense, punitive, and heartbreaking for our children. No family should have to fight this hard to be heard, and no child should be made to feel monitored, mistrusted, or unsafe at school. I'm sharing this because families deserve transparency, and because schools that claim Christian values must demonstrate justice, dignity, and care in practice, not just in mission statements.

I can honestly say this school has been one of the biggest blessings for our family. The progress my daughter has made in reading, writing, confidence, and communication has been incredible. What stands out the most to me is how much the school truly focuses not only on the children, but also on the families. Even though there are several students in each classroom, the organization, education, and individual attention given to every child is phenomenal. The teachers and staff genuinely listen to the needs of each student and family, and that level of care is something very special and rare to find. As a mother who previously had a very negative experience with another school with my older child, finding Discovery completely changed my perspective and restored my trust in what a school community should feel like. Unfortunately, when I moved to this area, my older son was already too old to attend this school, and I truly wish he could have experienced the same environment my daughter has had here. One of the things I appreciate most is how they work hard to keep children active and involved, especially for families who may not have the resources for expensive extracurricular activities. The after-school activities, family events, flag football, choir practice, singing activities, and the way they bring families together create such a beautiful sense of community. The parents have gotten to know one another, the children create strong friendships, and the environment feels welcoming and supportive for everyone. My daughter is always happy to go to school, and at the same time, she is already sad knowing that next school year will be her last year here. That alone says so much about the love and connection this school creates for its students.
