In just 10 weeks of my dog being a patient here, this review went from a 5 star to a 1 star sadly, so I do hope you read this when considering choosing this vet. I do think they have great marketing tools to make you feel special and welcome upon your first visit...a personalized letter board, a savvy app and social media presence...it would be an amazing and fun vet if you only needed tune ups. That being said, I began by coming in because my dog wasn't eating and was getting dehydrated. During her exam, he mentioned she had gingival hyperplasia. That was all that was said about it and I assumed it was a deformity. I googled it at home and found out it needs to be surgically taken care of. He apologized for his lack of communication about it and we moved forward with scheduling the surgery. Dr. Billy suggested I have the small mass my dog has had for 5 years on her side removed while she was already going to be under anesthesia and with up to date blood work. I trusted his opinion and added that on to the cost (upwards of $1700 after procedure and blood work). The tech Ashley took my dog back without even allowing me to give her a proper goodbye and then asked me about a DNR. I asked why someone would choose to not resuscitate their dog as I've never experienced any big procedures like this, and I quote "we'd probably have to break her ribs doing CPR and then she'd probably just code again"....talk about pre-surgery etiquette. Her less than 1" mass turned into a 2 1/2" incision and was stitched up and her gums were operated on too. Their week 1 follow up (during business hours) was great which led to the weekend when her stitches started stretching open and was told "it looks fine, just go take her to an emergency vet...for peace of mind. It's ONLY A HUNDRED DOLLARS" and that's not the reality of many peoples budgets. So I waited until Monday and we were back first thing in the morning and lo and behold, I wasn't losing my mind and she needed 6 staples. I follow up a week later, and they weren't healed enough. So we follow up after another week and then they were too healed and removing the staples reopened her wound (and upon going through my invoices, I now see that Dr. Billy, nor any of his regular employees, is who removed her staples and had to then glue her incision because it was bleeding again). I also explained she still wasn't eating her meals and seemed in pain when chewing and was told "weird! Maybe she's playing you. You can schedule a consultation"???? Then that leads us to this week where it's still not healed and the incision is still bleeding. 29 days later. I understand it's a spot that movement just can't be 100% avoided, but was following every direction exactly as I was told to do. Again, I was told I can come in for "peace of mind" but would be charged a $47 exam fee. Absurd. While taking her vitals, they asked if she's eating and I said not really and that I can only get her to eat 1/2 of her meals and she STILL seems in pain...like I kept telling them after surgery. That being said, upon vocalizing my frustration with another exam fee when he still hasn't seen THIS procedure to the end, he waived the fee and then charged me $111 for an ointment and a prescription....THAT SHE NEEDS TO TAKE WITH FOOD...which just about summarizes their overall carelessness. I will NEVER be back and this is the first time in 7 years that I feel like I failed my dog. read more

Think twice about using HARBOR SPRINGS VET. We had to take our elderly dog to the vet yesterday due to sudden onset coughing and bleeding. They wanted to do a X-ray for $350. When we stated that we couldn't afford that, Dr Billy told us that we were getting a fair price because had we taken our dog to an emergency vet it would be minimum $1000. We elected to euthanize. We had another to have another older dog with oral cancer euthanized weeks earlier and they charged about 345.00. This time it was 385.00. We called to ask what the discrepancy was. They added an eXam charge. They charge 75% more for x rays than other vets. Please avoid FYI. My wife also wrote a review and Dr "Billy" called to argue with my grieving wife over 40 dollars. She is more upset than ever now. read more

We went to Harbor Springs in Palm Harbor as my dog was having ear problems - crying, scratching and swollen. It took three trips to find out what's going on as they couldn't figure it out, but on the fourth trip they wanted to do a test (at this point we have already spent about $1400 for the ear issue and no improvement in the dogs condition. So I told the vet (Dr. Billy) that I was going to go to VCA for a second opinion before I spent another $600 now just to see if we're on the right track of treatment. So I took my dog, Jazzy to VCA, which is a lot farther north in Hudson and the first thing they said "You're trying to put medicine in an ear that is completely swollen closed, and you weren't given anything for the swelling?" which was no because Harbor Springs did not include any anti-inflammatories in Jazzy's treatment plan. So we got medicated ear drops and oral antibiotics, AS WELL AS, prednisone to decrease the swelling in her ear which within 2-3 weeks basically took care of the issue - no more crying, pain, scratching etc. It took 2 visits ($600) but this is why a second opinion is worth the price of the office visit instead of ongoing treatment with Dr. Billy that didn't make any difference - she had to improvement. I gave a month and half disability from Social Security in order to pay these ridiculous fees and then my pup is still sick? We had taken our cat, Fritz, to VCA for a physical and abnormal results came back from the urine test. So we contacted Harbor Springs Vet for a second opinion . The urine kit is free and the test is $64 as told by Harbor Springs Vet. I was also told by the front office desk that Dr Billy said that since I had taken Jazzy for a second opinion (VCA) Dr. Billy would no longer see any of our pets for any reason - sick or otherwise. This is what prompted this article. I was somewhat OK, even though my pets suffered, were never cured and we spent a ton of money (that we don't have) just to be told that Harbor Spring Vet would no longer take care of our pets. All of this is over a simple second opinion (which ended up curing the ear condition.) So 2 disability checks later I realized I was being used as a "cash cow", between x-rays and meds and laser treatment to the ear and office visit exams that are "required" at every visit at $66 a pop, and still my pets suffered for this. Never let a vet tell you that they are in their field because they love animals, when you know that there is minimal pet insurance out there, and the Vets charges are pretty much whatever fees he can get out of you. I was talking to my wife and she even said that a person in the ER (cold or sprain) that what we paid out far exceeded ER charges and still didn't help Jazzy. I understand that our fur babies need care and attention but vet charges are insane (I mean the estimate you get for the treatment plans includes everything but the kitchen sink.) Just because the vet and office staff are nice and p9olite that does NOT mean you are getting good care as evidenced by the above. Dr. Billy and staff was always nice and polite however we never walked out of the office without at least costing $400 - $600 dollars. I wouldn't be so upset spending money that isn't budgeted from my disability IF the pets actually IMPROVED. How do you feel after 3 visits/$1400 and the pet is still in pain and whimpering any time you go to touch the ear, you get a second opinion just to see what other treatment is out there, then your primary vet (Dr Billy) decides to NEVER see you again because his ego was bruised and another vet fixed the problem. Robert Citelli I remember that visit because I called to get a price and was told on phone it was 49 dollars that I would be in and out .Now when I get there the doctor walked in and looked at fritz I wondered why since it was just a rabies shot. Then after 4 minutes he walked out and the technician came back and said it would be 105 dollars? I said why, I was told 49 then this tech said to me in florida only doctors could give a rabies shot ( now this is the truth of what happened). so I said you know what forget the shot I dont have 105 dollars I had a 50 dollar bill. And yet I called ahead and was told 49 dollars and nothing that only a doctor can give a rabies shot. So I said I will pay you for the doctors time but forget about the shot I don't have the $ for it now And the tech when back to the doctor and he said don't wory about the charge, I still explained to him the old lady with gray hair told me the shot was 49 dollars if I was told a doctor had to do the shot and it was 105 I would not have wasted your time. SO YOU LIED ABOUT ME NOT PAYING, NICE TRY. Next the lady doctor in VCA knows all about jazzys condition because we lived NPR FL before moving down here and she said the inflammatory drug would not be a problem as she explained why giving ear drops if the ear is closed up, she said we need to open the ear for it to work .AGAIN U LIED read more

We love Dr. Kowalski! Our three animals have been seeing him for a few years now and we are very excited that he's opened a new clinic. One of our cats is very difficult to handle and he has worked over the years to gain his trust and treat him with lots of care and compassion. He also stated that he had many salaries to pay so no discounts would even be considered. Meanwhile our precious dog is in extreme respiratory distress. Taking many factors into consideration, we elected to euthanize her. So we are told in our grieving that it will be $343.64 (the exact same price we were given and paid for different dog less than a month ago). My husband signed on that amount. I look at my bank account today and they took $389.52. I called them with discrepancy and they stated extra was for exam charge that we were NEVER told about nor agreed to that amount. They are actively ripping off people!!! I also called a well known vet in the area who states they charge $200 for X-ray. Dr Billy showed no mercy or compassion and rips people off in their most sensitive times. A horrible horrible experience that I wish on no one!!! UPDATE: Dr Billy called me specifically today to fight me over his review!!! Imagine calling someone the day after their dog passes to fight with the owner??! read more

I'm profoundly disappointed with Dr. Billy and Harbor Springs Vet, who clearly put money ahead of animal care. Dr. Billy hasn't even been out of vet school for 10 years yet, and he clearly thinks like a guy who only cares about money. We have had both of our dogs to see him several times, and found out he charges as much as everyone else in town (i.e., a lot). When it was time for refills on heartworm medication, I used a licensed and reputable online pet pharmacy who said they'd contact my vet for authorization. I get a call from his assistant a few days later who tells me that for safety concerns, they will not authorize prescriptions to any pharmacy (including Chewy, Publix, and so on). I am astonished that they claim that places like Chewy and Publix would pose quality or safety concerns. She insists I order the medication through their office (obviously so they can get their cut). So she offers to put "Dr. Billy" on the phone. Dr. Billy tells a wildly different story. He doesn't say a word about quality or safety concerns. Rather, he rudely talks over me and insists it is his office's policy to not provide prescriptions via fax or phone to any brick and mortar or online pharmacy, and that he will write a paper prescription for a fee. Oh, and to make life difficult for you, even if you are willing to pay his fee, he makes you come in to his office in person to pick up the prescription. In a pandemic. For heartworm medication (not a painkiller or something odd). So, the truth comes out... He'll write you a prescription to anywhere so long as you pay extra. So much for the lies about quality control, and so forth. Keep in mind the dogs were current patients, both seen in the last few months. Seriously, I've spent about $1,000 with your practice over the course of a few months and you are so desperate for a few extra dollars you alienate a good customer by insisting I pay more for the same medication by purchasing it from you? Since Florida law requires vets to give you a paper prescription upon request, they couldn't say no but itstead want to charge me for it? And then to make life even harder during a pandemic, they want you to come in an pick-up the prescription? Like I have nothing better to do? Dr. Billy, you're so greedy you can't spring for the 58 cent stamp for the prescription? Money-hungry vets are disgusting. You're supposed to be a vet to help animals. You already charge a lot and make plenty of money. Avoid like the plague if you want a vet who puts put care first and foremost ahead of profits. read more
