San Diego has taken a downturn in the last handful of years and it's no longer as clean/safe/lively as it once was. So taking it in from across the water in Coronado.. perfect! The park is a lovely way to enjoy Coronado -- away from the hype of the Del and away from the typical beach. I was able to witness a beautiful proposal in the park, and also saw lots of folks just enjoying a picnic, a photo sesh, a wander about, etc. The park is nestled near a small beach and also the buzz of the ferry landing with its restaurants and tourist shops. The park offers beautiful views of the San Diego skyline. Highly recommend a walk through if you're visiting Coronado. 2024: 45/100

We plopped down a blanket by the path under a palm tree, about 10 feet from the water. The weather was perfect. There was a steady flow of people on bikes, kayaks and paddle boards. We enjoyed it not being crowded at all. It was almost perfect. The only con was there were lots of prickly spiky seed pods and fire red ants in the sand. We moved the blanket but we wanted to be in the shade. We will come back when it's cooler and settle down closer to the water.

Built with probably age 7+ in mind but my toddler was able to enjoy everything easily. The slides were metal but it didn't burn anyone going down. I was happy there was a good amount of shade! Prices are not posted and I didn't have the heart to say nevermind and disappoint the kiddos. Great park!

This is more based on the dog park that's on the same lot as the Children's Park. This one uses…read moreturf, which i find has it's benefits on the days after a rainstorm since it doesn't get muddy. There are four big pine trees with separate retaining walls around three of them for owners to sit down. With it being so close to the bay, there's often a nice breeze that goes through the park. There's no divide between small dogs and big dogs, so it's best to just keep an eye on your dog, and many owners around here are usually respectful. The street parking immediately adjacent to the park is free, however, it has a limit of 30 minutes, and the parking meter workers are strict on it if they're around. I bring my dog here around lunch time because those who live/ work in the area tend to bring their dogs during their break time and my dog gets his socialization time. They close 8am-11am MWF for maintenance/ cleaning. Currently, both gates are broken so it's not as secure as it should be, and who knows when the city will actually fix it. There're a few agility structures and a water dispenser. The children's park itself looks pretty cool for kids with a lot of structures with slides and swings. There's also another separate area with fixed exercise equipment that looks well- maintained. The water feature in the park is a water feature, not a pool.

Nobody from Coronado refers to this park as Mathewson Park. We call it "Pomona" park…read more This was the best park for those kids growing up on the East Side of Coronado. Its gentle sloping sidewalk was perfect for skating or biking. The old corkscrew slide provided endless hours of entertainment ( as long as your brought your own wax paper). The large grass field was perfect for games of touch-football. The large palm tree palms were perfect for grabbing and swinging around.. The park hasn't changed much sine then, though they did get rid of the "unsafe" slide years ago. I guess the only major difference is all the weird traffic control the city installed along Pomona which is so bizarre. Safer? maybe.. Now my kids always want to play at Pomona park when we visit family... Its so nice to see that.

It's a nice place to hang out before the start of the race. It always look to be well maintained and a nice spot for kids to run around and play.

As the name suggests its a nice place to watch the sunset if the beaches are not for you. Or a place to dry off before you get back into your car. Parking can be at best tight. Its also heavily trafficked and it also serves as an entrance Naval Base Coronado so there can be a lot of vehicle and pedestrian traffic. It was clean and well maintained. However, beyond the large field, and a small play structure in the corner, there is not much else.

There's a small stretch of beach facing the bay with very calm waters for people to swim in. There's was a few Stand up paddle boarders and kayakers in the water. Easy to launch kayaks and SUP from the beach into the water. Very cute little park, clean and well maintained. Highly recommend.

After the SD Writers Festival and then grabbing a slice and a beer on the main strip, I strolled over here to enjoy the last rays of the day. It is just gorgeous and breathtaking. I sat far back today, sitting on some rocks, ear buds in listening to my favorite playlist and just meditating while Mother Nature put on her beautiful sunset show for us. Come out here and enjoy the fun shops and restaurants nearby and spend some time with nature. Your heart and mind will thank you later.

There are spots all along the strand with paid parking, but you can find some free parking too, and it is not that far of a walk. The beaches are pristine and the views are second to none. Great spot to take visiting family and friends who want to get a taste of San Diego. They also get to experience the Coronado Bridge if you are driving over there. Highly recommend visiting if you get a chance.
