We enjoyed the park here! It had more people than usual when we play at parks but it was downtime and comic con weekend. Great play structures. Built with probably age 7+ in mind but my toddler was able to enjoy everything easily. The slides were metal but it didn't burn anyone going down. I was happy there was a good amount of shade! Bring your own food and snacks. Prices are ridiculous. The ice cream truck was $6 for an ice cream sandwich. Prices are not posted and I didn't have the heart to say nevermind and disappoint the kiddos. Great park! read more

This is more based on the dog park that's on the same lot as the Children's Park. This one uses turf, which i find has it's benefits on the days after a rainstorm since it doesn't get muddy. There are four big pine trees with separate retaining walls around three of them for owners to sit down. With it being so close to the bay, there's often a nice breeze that goes through the park. There's no divide between small dogs and big dogs, so it's best to just keep an eye on your dog, and many owners around here are usually respectful. The street parking immediately adjacent to the park is free, however, it has a limit of 30 minutes, and the parking meter workers are strict on it if they're around. I bring my dog here around lunch time because those who live/ work in the area tend to bring their dogs during their break time and my dog gets his socialization time. They close 8am-11am MWF for maintenance/ cleaning. Currently, both gates are broken so it's not as secure as it should be, and who knows when the city will actually fix it. There're a few agility structures and a water dispenser. The children's park itself looks pretty cool for kids with a lot of structures with slides and swings. There's also another separate area with fixed exercise equipment that looks well- maintained. The water feature in the park is a water feature, not a pool. read more

We also enjoyed The Children's Park in Downtown, San Diego, CA. When you walk towards the Children's Park, you'll be going through a walkway surrounded by water and you'll see birds swimming. The park is gated and safe for kids. Our son loved the playground. The park is across from The Children's Museum. They also have public bathrooms available with security. The park was nice and clean. This is a great park for adults, kids, and dogs. Besides a nice fountain and grass area to hang out at, there is also a gym with several machines. There is also a huge playground, made of wood, themed as a pirate ship, where kids can play at. Right next to it is a fenced off leash dog park. This one is for small and large dogs. It's a good size park with plenty of shade and places to sit at. I just wish it wasn't turf. Overall, I'm so happy with the entire renovation. Several years ago, the place was covered with pine trees where the homeless people would stay at. Now, it's a wonderful common area that everyone can enjoy. read more

Nice park in downtown SD, across from the Children's Museum. Parking is a little challenging and most of it you'll have to pay. But if you live in downtown San Diego it is very convenient. As my kids grow up, we enjoy going to parks that grow with us. This park is definitely fun for kids up to 12 years old. It's a secure park with plenty to offer. On a weekday it's not too busy, but on a weekend it can get quite busy! We love that they have different minds of swings to enjoy. Outside of the play area there is a beautiful fountain to enjoy. There are also a few benches and tables. Oh and there's a dog park too! Restrooms are monitored by security guard who opens them for you. A beautiful park located next to the New Children's Museum. There's several options for children to enjoy. Whether it's climbing, jumping or running. It's clean and spacious and has a beautiful backdrop from any angle. Towering buildings or the Palm trees with the harbor in sight. I've been meaning to get here for awhile. My kids have a lot of energy and love to climb, so this playground was great. It's fenced in with a few benches for parents to sit. We went early on Saturday morning, so we had the place to ourselves for awhile. You have to pay for parking. We did 2hr street parking, but there's also a lot nearby. Our friends parked there and went into the Children's Museum, when it opened. The coolest park! My toddler loves it! The ground is squishy to protect from falls and there are a lot of things to do from swings and slides to climbing and spinning. Right next to it is a dog park which my daughter loves to have a snack while watching the dogs play (I enjoy this, too). There are a few picnic tables and a lot of benches right outside the enclosed playground and plenty of trashcans. There's a small green space where kids will play with their balls or cartwheel across. This park really is a gem to San Diego for visitors (like me) and I'm sure residents. This park has everything you need and is so fun with the variety of structures to climb and slide in the playground! My kids had a blast and loved how it had some new things you wouldn't find at a typical park, like a circular swing or one that's shaped like a long log. It looked secure as well as there's a gate that you need the enter to get in. With that being said... I lowered the rating not really because of the park itself, but rather my experience. On a Monday afternoon, it was BUSY and super crowded. On top of that, there were so many kids (some not so well behaved) running around unsupervised so the risk of injury for your kid can be high (eg kids standing at the bottom of slides, running behind swings, throwing straw from the floor around etc). It was chaotic to say the least. There are a lot of structures that spin... And I witnessed a kid throw up on the playground. Some of the kids were also hogging things like not getting off the circular swing after a long period. Overall, my kids had fun but going forward- I think there should be some signs around the park with some rules or guidelines to follow if you enter. read more

San Diego, CA - what a great park in the middle of downtown San Diego! The playground is big and is next to a dog park where you can also see the dogs run wild. The wooden play structure looks pretty new, and there are a lot of different types of action for the kids, climbing, swinging, balancing, sliding, etc. It also felt pretty safe when I was there in the morning in the middle of the week; I didn't see anyone sketchy wandering around. There are also some cafes and shops nearby, good to grab a bite or a drink after a play session. And of course, the children's museum is just across the street! This is a great park for children and adults alike. People complain about homelessness but as compared to the parks in San Jose downtown where I never saw any kid because it was literally occupied with tents...this is an idyllic park across from the convention center, very modern and with cool amenities. What an amazing park! My family and I were staying at a hotel just down the street from this park - and I swear the kids wanted to come here more than the hotel pool! This park is large making it easy for kids to run around and not be over crowded. It is clean and the bathrooms also are not bad at all either. The pros of this park are the size and the fact that it's fenced off from the street traffic and unhoused population. The cons are the bathroom is out of the fenced off area and hidden, which makes it challenging to find. It could be it was extra busy due to comic con but some of the kids had no manners. And some of the parents didn't care or weren't watching their kids. Some kids would just push and walk over other kids or block the way so other kids couldn't go on the play structure. So if your kid was like 4 or younger not the best place when crowded. Located in Downtown San Diego right off Harbor drive lays The Children's park which is right across from the Children's Museum in the Marina district. This park has a small garden where you can learn about different herbs and plants. They have 3 swings in which one of them is for small kids that has a protective covering. They have these little twirlers where you swirl around and get extremely dizzy! The park has soft rubber matting which is good on the feet and if you fall you wont get all scabbed up. They have a long cement area where you can kick a ball or run around and let loose. Me personally I like to play hockey there where I can slap the ball against the wall and work my dynamic slap shot! The wall is also good for chalk use where you can express your artistic drawings on the cement or wall. Across from the wall they have a trapeze where you can climb really high and hang off the ropes and even have a chair on top where you can sit on top of the world and look down. Inside the fenced in area they have 2 benches and a water fountain as well. On the outer banks there is sand for the children to play in too. This park is newly remodeled and definitely in my top 5 for best parks for children! First of all, this is in the middle of downtown San Diego across from the convention center and also across from the New Children's Museum. There is a paid parking lot across the street, we paid $10 for all day parking but I'm sure this varies depending on what is going on in the area. This park is completely fenced in so no worrying about your child running off. One of my favorite features of this park and I've never seen anywhere else is that they have a security booth on site and I saw 2 security guards keeping watch, so you don't have to worry about homeless or sketchy people approaching you or your children. The playground is pretty large and high up so I would say beat for ages 5 and up. The metal slide is very high and goes fast! They have fun and unique swings and lots of rope bridges and plenty of places to climb. Did not use the restroom cause I try to avoid park bathrooms as much as possible but it was next to the security booth so i would think it would be somewhat clean? And Cafe 222 is super close where you will find the most delicious blueberry cornmeal waffle ever to exist! You will thank me later! Had a great time and would definitely go back! This is a quaint little park that was put in by The Redevelopment Agency of the City of San Diego under Mayor Susan Golding in 1995. The park is located in Martin Luther King Promenade across the San Diego Convention Center. It is not a very large park, but it is very nice and strategically located at the shadow of numerous condominiums . There are jungle gyms for children and a play area as well. I did not want to take any pictures of this part of the park because there were many children around. However, I did take some pictures of the part of park, where people go to relax, read, or simply hang out. I enjoy coming to this park on my walks with the dogs! It's a great park to come hang out or let your dog run up and down the mounds...my dog loves to do this. It's a great place to bring guests for a nice pic op, especially when the sun is shining and the fountains are running. There are usually ducks swimming around or bathing under the fountains. Some homeless are occasionally there, but they don't bother you...well they have never bothered me. My dog on the other hand has gone up to see if they have food to give, hahaha!!! Seems to be undergoing a renovation or just otherwise closed - unfortunately it seems to be a homeless encampment at this point. I am not local. I just came to visit San Diego and I was suppose to take care of two girlies. So I did little research and I find this Children's Park. Didn't really went into deeper research cause what could be wrong with the Children's Park. Any who, there was a lot of homeless people camping out there. Not that I am against them but being with 2 little girlies I didn't feel really comfortable and safe. Plus in some parts it was really stinky, which I don't know was it occurred by homeless or was it something else. It was OK to walk trough and see the water and fountains and take couple pictures but I wouldn't prefer this place to have a picnic. read more
