This tour was a wonderful way to learn about the history of Halifax and see the city in a unique way. Our tour guide was very personable and knew a lot about the city and our driver/captain sang songs for us. Going in the water was really cool and was a unique experience. Highly recommend this as a great way to learn about and see the sights in Halifax.

Great way to enjoy Halifax by land and sea. The tour uses refurbished and repurchased Vietnam War amphibious boats. It is really a lot of fun. The best part is splashing into the bay. The Captain and narrator do an excellent job at telling the history of Halifax. Unfortunately, most of it is pretty grim. In 1918 there was a blast from a ship that exploded because it was carrying explosives and collided with another ship. Anyone that was outside during the blast was blinded. That was a good portion of the town. The tour travels on a hill that was a burial ground. Also, the Titanic sunk off the shores of the city. Viewing the Halifax from the harbor gives you a whole new perspective. It was fun, especially when the other Harbor Hopper boat passed us. The boats fit many people. I would wear a mask even though you are outside. You are all cramped together. My husband came back from Canada with Covid-19. It may have been from the Harbor Hopper. Also, wear a hat and sunscreen. Thanks so much for a great time!

Looks strange but is a great tour

Fun, exciting and definitely different than any of the other harbour tours. You go from land to water - all the time being entertained by the first mate give a constant ant narration of history and other local tidbits. Will definitely take this tour again on my next visit.

Very informative and a lot of fun. Good way to see the highlights of the city by land and water. Our guide knew the city!! Good value for the time spent.

Amphibious tour bus... Nuff said To be honest I'm not a fan of tour buses. I prefer to use Yelp as my tour guide. That being said I decided to try this out because I don't get the opportunity to ride amphibious vehicles very often. Dress accordingly and prepare to get wet. Engine is loud at the back. So move to the front if you want to listen to the tour guide. Kudos to her. It was an entertaining and informative tour. I got to learn about Halifax history, breweries, and lunch spots. Needless to say I was on a strict diet of fish & chips and Alexander Keith for a while. Ribbit ribbit, mutha frogger!

Our amazing tour guide, Abigail, who stood the entire tour even though she had a broken ankle in a cast.

It was a cold, rainy, and basically all-around misery of a day. We had walked around Halifax for a couple of hours and were soaked straight through but still wanted to go on the duck tour we had reserved a few days prior. And we're so glad we did! We learned a few very important things on this tour by our 12-year old tour guide Annabelle: 1. Waving to Citadel Hill is not considered crazy. It's what the locals do (and do as the locals do or else the tour guide gets tetchy!). 2. Don't run up Citadel Hill in the dark. You may fall into the "Pit of Death" and sprain your ankle. 3. The locals have lunch with live music in a park in the summers, which is accompanied by an also live cannon punctuating noon. There's nothing like a little firepower to charge up ones lunch hour. 4. You are toured down a street that 30,000 people walk down daily, but do not get to hit any of them. 5. It felt like The Captain drove into the water at full speed. No kidding, this was not a "wading" experience. Loved it. 6. And last but not least, It's not a duck tour, it's an "amphibious LARC V" vehicle tour, which is much MUCH better than a duck tour. For one thing, they bought American! Another thing Is you get to luxuriate in a million dollar vehicle for your tour. For another thing... You'll have to take it to find out the rest! Thank you very much to our driver/captain and our tour guide Annabelle. Just kidding Abigail! See we Hawaiians on your chilly Harbour Hopper tour were paying attention (even though we didn't wave at Citadel Hill. She was sleeping and we thought it would be rude to wake her). We loved your tour and know that your Mom (Hi Mom!) would be proud of you. Abigail is an educational and very entertaining tour guide! P.S. If this is your one and only lifetime trip to Halifax, you may want to bring your own flag. If Abigail is your tour guide, you'll find out why!

I'd always seen the HH driving about town and wondered why people would do something so touristy... But I did get a free ticket from a friend to go so thought I would give it a whirl. It was actually very educational, even for a Haligonian and I learnt a lot of things about the city I didn't know before (ie Brunswick street used to be called "knock 'em down alley", who knew? It was nice that it was both a water and land tour since it gives you perspective of the city from every angle. The tour guide was super enthusiastic and good at her job. She clearly knows a lot about the noisy and was wager to share, I'd definitely recommend this to anyone whether you're from Halifax or just visiting.

They also have paddle boarding, paddle nights and a slew of other activities (kayaking is a different day and there is a small fee). I'd recommend this to anyone, I've seen young children on paddle boards and siblings canoeing alone - unless you're acting a fool it's definitely a safe environment! I just discovered the weekly Wednesday evening paddle, where, for just $10, anyone can enjoy an evening exploring the waters of the Northwest Arm. The program only runs until the end of September, but will start again in spring when - hopefully - the troublesome pollution issues in the harbour will be resolved. The kayaking staff are really friendly, knowledgeable, and safety-conscious and offer beginners a full instruction session before letting them loose on the water! St. Mary's also has three asphalt tennis courts and a lawn-bowling facitlity, in addition to the clubhouse itself, which can be rented for banquets, receptions and other events.
