The instructor, Wayne, was so kind, helpful and encouraging! I'm sure it was more than obvious that it was my first time trying out Pilates , but Wayne was quick to assist, give directions and correct my form when needed. I do a lot of HIIT workouts which is the complete opposite of Pilates, so I was definitely out of my comfort zone while in this class, though I felt at ease the entire time, thanks Wayne! I came here for a private class with a group of ladies on Sunday. I have done Pilates in the past, but this was before the pandemic, so it's been a while. Parking - When I arrived, I noted they only have 2 designated parking spots for the business in their teeny- tiny lot out in front. The other spots are designated for the other business connected to theirs. I had parked right up front, but someone that was walking in told me I couldn't park there. So I moved to the next lot over. I think it's a seafood business, luckily it was closed. But if the other surrounding businesses are open, towing is possible. Anyway, once I parked, I headed inside, there's a cute mural upon entry, and a set of stairs. Upstairs is their gym space. I was greeted by the husband and wife duo of the studio were friendly and kind. This private class was $25 per person. Work out - I liked that it was a mix of the trampoline workout (which was hard, think running at top speed on a trapoline), and the pilates reformer, which is also hard. But she had a great playlist. Claire, the instructor and owner, gave good instruction and help for the beginners but amped it up for those used to pilates. She also informed us that they have lots of different class styles and use other pieces of equipment besides the trampoline. They are on class pass, so I shall return during off peak times. Great pilates studio! The instructor Michelle was so nice and welcoming!! It was my first class recently and had a great time. I did the Cardio sculpt class and it was challenging yet very fun! They offer a wide variety in class types! Good quality, modern equipment, and a lot of pilates accessories for the class. I bought a 3 class package for $45 which was a great deal!! As a first time Pilates goer, HardCore fitness was great! I had the instructor Kelly for an evening class and it was AWESOME! The community there was so supportive and I had a great time. Evelyn is such a great instructor and was so welcoming and friendly when I first arrived. I booked a reformer session through ClassPass and left with an amazing experience. She emphasized form and corrected me to minimize injury, which shows she's very knowledgeable. The reformer Pilates here was at an intensity I wasn't quite used to, but I enjoyed the challenge and you will definitely get a good workout from here! The classes are great. I've done Abs & Arms, Butts & Guts, and HIIT bounce. I purchased a Groupon for the classes. The classes are great ... you will definitely feel the difference in your body immediately. However I appreciate that it wasn't a bootcamp class but more so a collaborative workout class. With the Groupon it was never on my account... so I had to email and call everyday to book a class and the response times from the owners were slow. read more

I super duper love the regular instructors, well balanced and challenging, the perfect balance of a challenge and a deep wanted strength builder, just right! After a couple weeks of subs I'm bummed about Rayna, she doesn't lead the class, she walks us through her own workout, it's obvious this is more important for her to get a session in than guide her students through a lesson. Very frustrated that Rayna spends back to back sessions as her personal workout as opposed to actually doing her job as a Pilates instructor. This is the best Pilates gym in Houston! The classes aren't overcrowded like some other gyms and the instructors give each and every person attention in the class. If you're considering starting your fitness journey, this is the place to do it! All the instructors are extremely educated and knowledgeable about certain medical and physical limitations and make modifications for each person with limitations to make the class work for each student individually. You reserve the class ahead of time, so there's never more than 12 people in a class. They also have a great team of experienced and knowledgable trainers, I love that they make you feel like family and are always genuinely happy to see you when you come through the doors. I've been going to Hardcore for 5 years, and I am still constantly challenged! I have gained so much strength from their pilates classes on the Allegro Reformer, and so much endurance and speed from their Bounce classes on mini rebounders. The classes are tough but so much fun. Wayne and Claire are encouraging and bring the best energy to every class. I also feel very safe with all of the precautions they have always taken, even pre-Covid. Every piece of equipment is sanitized after every class, they have air purifiers, hand sanitizer and disinfecting spray all over the studio. read more

I had lost my full time job recently and had to miss a class to apply and what not. Their policy is a 24 hour window and so I emailed them and told them my situation. Not only did they give me my class back but they gave me a few free classes to keep me going. I am so impressed by business and their kindness and generosity. I have taken 2 classes at this studio through ClassPass and both times have left disappointed. Pros: - Convenient location - Easy parking - Lots of class times - Pretty good workout, not as challenging as other studios I've been to but not easy either. Cons: Unfortunately, a lot. I will try to provide as much constructive feedback to the instructors as possible. 1) At the beginning of class, introduce yourself! Welcome people. Establish yourself as a resource for helping. Tell them to ask if they have questions and to let you know if it's too light or too heavy at any point. Check to see if this is anyone's first time at your studio or first time doing pilates. This is so basic but without it I felt unwelcome. (Especially because you kept talking to your regulars and totally ignoring the new people...) 2) The machines are really old and in need of servicing or replacement. Both times the machines made terrible squeaking noises and in the most recent class the machine itself smelled terrible. 3) Neither instructor, Vania or Wayne, provided explanations for anything. Vania said, "if you aren't sure look at your neighbor." The person next to me was new too :-/ Neither of us knew what the 3 foot positions were. You have to explain what you mean by "L's" or "frogs". How about, "frogs: heels together toes apart and pointed out. Bend your legs in toward your chest and then extend straight out". Make it clear what you want your participants to do. 4) Class is not a race. Wayne especially would call the next move while most of us were still on 10 or 12 of 20 reps. But there were a few people who just sped through each thing and then sat waiting for him to call the next one so he would. That's not ideal and it made me feel like I should be going faster even though in most cases you get a better workout by going slow. Everyone should go at approximately the same pace or just have people go for time rather than reps. 5) Provide better instructions for accessing the studio. On Saturday some of the exterior doors were locked, the elevator didn't work without a building access key, etc.. someone had to come down and rescue us from the lobby. 6) Stop dividing class by regulars and "other people" when giving weight recommendations. Just because someone is a regular doesn't mean they want it to be more difficult. Just because someone is new doesn't mean they need lighter weight. What you should say is, "you can do 1 red or for a challenge add a green." I hope this helps. It would be great to have another good pilates studio in the area. read more

At first, I thought the name of this place was just a marketing gimmick. Kind of like "oh we'll work you out hard, but not really, because it's still pilates." Boy, was I wrong. This place is 150% more intense than any pilates place I have been to before, and I've tried at least 6 other places so far. I had sweat dripping off my face while doing planks and whatever else the other moves were. And not just once. In my last six visits, I'm pretty sure this has happened all but one time. I usually go in the mornings before work from 5:30-6:30, so the only instructors I've had the pleasure of working with are Fawn and Wayne and they really will push you hard and you will realize you're capable of so much more than you thought. In fact, and I hope this actually amuses people because it certainly made me laugh, one time we did pike and planks at the beginning of class and then 45 minutes into it, the instructor asked us to do them again. I was super tired and sweaty by round two so I asked if there were any modifications. The instructor just looked at me and with a super straight face said "I only do modifications for elderly people and pregnant people, and you're neither one." Tough love at its best. (Then the instructor showed me a modification, but her initial reaction definitely made me want to push through and give her the 15 pike-and-planks she had originally asked for.) If you can handle legit hardcore pilates, this is the place for you. No one will really baby you; they'll show you how to do the moves, but then they expect 110% out of you. You won't ever lie on your back, doing minimal leg exercises, staring at the ceiling and relaxing (which I have done at other pilates places). read more

I also bought the Groupon - I purchased 2 private sessions and 4 regular classes. This was much more affordable than other reformer classes I've seen offered. Overall, the place is very clean. It's in a nice building with a parking garage so it's convenient. The location on Kirby is just OK - there is always so much construction and traffic there. Their address (if you google them) is wrong but when I brought it up, they did say that they've been trying to correct it with Google for months. Now, the important part - I have only done 1 private session and 2 classes. Unfortunately, (with the exception of abs) I was not sore at all after any of the sessions. I'm not a heavy weight lifter or anything, and when I try something new, I expect it to work muscles and areas I don't normally use, so I am slightly disappointed that I don't feel I get worked out very hard. The atmosphere was very friendly and relaxed. The instructors chit chat with you (and each other) throughout the class. My private session was harder, and I did walk out with my legs feeling like jelly. I will complete the sessions that I purchased on Groupon, but will probably not go back as a regular customer. They also don't seem to start on time. I was late to both my group classes due to traffic, but they had not started when I arrived. read more

I've been coming to HCP for a couple of years now and I always enjoy the classes. Most of the the instructors (Wayne, Lauren, Meagan) are great and are able to gauge which springs a client needs to use. So to an extent the classes are slightly individualized, and that's a nice touch. Although the classes are technically one hour in length, I would say that the total intense workout time is usually 45 minutes. The other 15 minutes is warm-up/stretching/cleanup etc. Overall, a great low-impact workout. read more

He customized and individualized the workout for me since it was my first time - there's only 10-12 machines in a room so the instructor can see and help you with your form - they push you and make you work hard, concentrating on using your core, arms, legs...hell, everything! Most of the people in my class seemed to be regulars and were in great shape! I need to get on their level. Hard Core Pilates has been a game changer for me and my workout goals. I mainly go to Wayne and Claire's classes and they both have different but challenging styles that has helped me on my journey to a strong, toned body. The family, very laid back personality of the facility is a plus so you don't feel intimidated in any way. There is nothing fancy of boutique like about the facility, but I don't mind that as I am in to get a job done and be on my way! Both Wayne and Claire are friendly and has even helped me create a nutrition plan. Their prices are also competitive and I feel like the people who come to workout are definitely more down to earth than other Pilates studios I've been to. The facility is organized and clean (cubbies, towels, water) 3. Wayne, the instructor, is fantastic. He's friendly, personable, and knows his clients (most by name). He's hands on, ready to assist with your positioning and the machines to help keep you in sync with the classes pace. He always modifies the resistance to suit your experience/level. The work outs are great!! One piece of feedback I have for this studio is t would be great if they could do just a few things to improve the amenities (shower). A bath mat and trash can in the shower area would be the quickest and most basic improvements. The bath mat is badly needed. I had to mop the floor with my own towel from home which was pretty gross but necessary to be considerate to others. If they wanted to step it up further they could provide lotion, towels- these are things that some other classes and gyms in the area provide that make the experience rely great especially if you take classes before work in the early morning.
