One word for In Flight Running: AWESOMENESS! yep, this club rocks. Why am I getting this hyped up about a running club you may wonder? Because they have changed my life for the better, and made me a much better runner (and person) along the way. Ater a few years of recreational running and scouting different running clubs, this is by far the best running group in H-town. Even if you are not into running but have it on your "list" of things to do, or just getting into running but want some running buddies, or are a good runner and want some training, or just any person who wants training and a great group of people and coaches to run with every weekend... then join In Flight! just do it already, you won't be dissappointed. You get so much more out of this club then you ever can imagine, all you have to do is show up and there is a whole community of people there to run with, hang with, socialize with, party with, heck whatever you do, there are people for that there, too. What is better than having fun with new friends and burning calories at the same time? Honestly before In Flight, I was not even a "club" type of person.. but after years of thinking that running a marathon was out of my reach, this group has shown me that anyone and everyone can do this. I registered for my first marathon this year and decided that the only way I could really pull it off was by joining a club and being held accountable. The peeps over at Fleet Feet recommended In Flight, and by that same evening the Coach, Michael Merlino, had personally talked to me and invited me to a run in Kemah that following Saturday. Wow! What a great first time experience... I was really sold and hooked after that. Not because of the run, but more because of the people. I was so nervous that I would be the slowest one out there, but honestly there are runners at EVERY pace and EVERY level. I had instant running companions and made instant new friends for life. There are many options for training and runners also: you can just register for the long Saturday runs, you can do hill training, or speed training, or all of the above - and you get lots of fun perks such as monthly happy hours (awesome!) and free seminars and member discounts at my favorite running store: Fleet Feet. Honestly this is a great group of people that I am so honored to have met and running with them is so much fun that even if I don't feel like running on a Saturday I would still show up just because I don't want to miss the fun... now that is saying a LOT for a Saturday morning!!!

We (my sister, friend and I) bought this deal on Groupon - unlimited 30Xpress classes for $19. Whoa! Considering that it normally costs $280+ for the same classes, what a steal! Like the old saying "If it sounds too good to be true, it is." I agree. The management's communication (lack thereof) was jaw-dropping. We were able to work a deal with Renee, one of the awesome managers, so we can continue after the Groupon deal ended. First week into the newly paid verbal contract, which is considered valid in Texas, Dawn, one of the owners, called to inform that the deal was not valid and that they were not going to "eat the cost" since the deal was undervalued. A management staff member accepted the negotiated pricing and accepted payment for said service, yet she is calling us out implying that we were essentially "taking" sessions not paid for. After, the LOUD and heated conversation she had with my sister on the phone, which can be heard easily by anyone more than a few feet away, was very unprofessional. Why is she arguing and putting the blame on the client? Then, she informed us she would not give us a refund, SERVICES WERE NOT RENDERED, one week after the deal was made. We agreed that we would break the amount paid into weekly portions and pay that portion accordingly; she vehemently disagreed until she talked to her husband. She called a short time later after her husband agreed to offer the full refund and a week free of training. We contemplated going since the ordeal with the management made it uncomfortable but the trainers are awesome. Several days later, we went. Day 1, Boxing trainer, Vincent, was no longer an employee, so we can only work out with the other trainer, Terrence. Management did not inform that the trainer would be let go, so they agreed to bring him back so we can train with him for the week. We greatly appreciated that, especially when an employee called the evening before to ensure our schedule would remain the same as previously taken. Results: Trainers - awesome! Management - fail!

However, I drive 15 miles only to have the instructor not show up. This class is only an hour long and was supposed to start at 8:30am and there were 5 of us waiting outside until around 9am. There was no note on the door or a response from either of the 2 phone numbers posted on the front of the door. I called the main phone number only to have an answering service take my name and number and tell me that some one will return my call. One of the gentleman waiting with us mentioned that the same thing happened to the Tuesday class and the instructor was a no show and they still have not heard back from the studio as to the reason for it. Their website requires a 24 hour advance notice for any cancelation. How about extending that courtesy to us too?

I was greeted by the husband and wife duo of the studio were friendly and kind. This private class was $25 per person. Work out - I liked that it was a mix of the trampoline workout (which was hard, think running at top speed on a trapoline), and the pilates reformer, which is also hard. But she had a great playlist. Claire, the instructor and owner, gave good instruction and help for the beginners but amped it up for those used to pilates. She also informed us that they have lots of different class styles and use other pieces of equipment besides the trampoline. They are on class pass, so I shall return during off peak times. Besides the strange parking setup, the studio was spacious and nicely organized, with new equipment and a good class.

She showed me a couple of workouts and showed me around both Illuminate Fitness and Illuminate sweat. We sat down and discussed goals and I was so pumped to start this journey. I will say from the first meeting I was so hooked by Jourdans bubbly personality. She is SO freaking sweet. She set me up with my current PT, Kelly who I adore. It's been about five weeks since I've started my meal plan and training with Kelly twice a week as well as attending the group classes four times a week. I've seen so much change in my body and even on the inside (my confidence, self esteem etc) I could literally cry. I was lying to myself before I started coming here eating whatever I wanted and "working out" in a constant cycle of going 110% and then quitting. I was so tired of the BS. This gym has transformed me inside and out. Everyone here is extremely genuine and supportive. I love that I have them to look up to. I love the community feel and how they are always looking out for their clients. Being my first class, Kacie made sure to be inclusive and walked through all parts of the machine as it was designed slightly differently from other reformers. The industrial vibes of the interior design works well to invoke energy upon entering the room, while the smooth flowing music in the background calms the mind. It was overall a great class, and I would definitely return again. Pro tip: Parking can be a bit limited as the studio is in a prime location near downtown. I suggest arriving in the time gap between classes so that you can wait for a spot just as the last class prepares to leave.

I was really disappointed to see this studio open in my hometown (by the same owners) after having a terrible encounter at their original location in Houston. I honestly still feel triggered by the experience I had at Method several years ago, and think about it literally every time I enter a studio, particularly a new one - hoping to never feel that kind of shame (story below if you are interested) in a space where I usually feel so safe and grounded. Please be wary of their practices, especially to my other brown girls! There are so many other kind, warm, and welcoming studios in the Austin area owned by women. Urban Lagree, ATX Pilates, homebody, trufusion, and many many others are so much better to support. ________ I posted on Google Reviews about my experience and the harm it caused, and The studio owner tried to harass me about this review by calling my personal cell multiple times (they seemed to have kept it from the many years ago I was there which is a huge violation of privacy), via my socials (I did post comments there too, to share my experience) and sending me a fairly threatening DM (screenshotted below) - I have blocked them on all accounts. Instead of apologizing for the horrible experience, somehow turned it back on me as if it was my fault I was treated that way. Even though the current staff member doesn't work there, they still stood behind her when the comments were made, and would likely do so again if given the chance. They also seem to be flooding the comment/review section with family + friend reviews, so just please be cautious, Austin friends.
