Hubby & I were out at my dads new property for my birthday checking out where he has purchased more land & a new house. Leaving, we were needing a birthday party quick hangover cure to the rescue! Lol Stopping for gas next door to this cute little drive-in, we notice it was completely PACKED! We were famished, so we decided to check it out. Inside, the place is super cute, what a find! So I started taking pics. This man, I presume "Larry the owner" comes to our table & says to me, "do you want to take pics inside the kitchen too?" LOL I said, "no, but I love your place it's very cute & I love the way you vaulted the ceilings, my hubby & I are in the process of refurbishing a carriage house & want to vault the ceilings just like this. How did you do it?" So he goes on to tell us all about his adorable Little small town cafe/ drive-in & you can see the pride that he has for this beautiful little place in his eyes. Just beaming. We order burgers & fries & it was quite a wait for them, but once we got them OMG! Hubby & I were cramming them in our pie holes so fast, "Larry" kept coming over asking us "how is it guys" & we were like grunting & mmmm-mmm-MMMM, unhua-mmm shaking our heads yes, making all kinds of noises bc we were just stuffing it in the kissers like wild ravaged walk of shame peasants. I walked in and the place was empty other than a lady who greeted me and sat me at a table. The floor was dirty and felt greasy. The menu she handed me felt dirty also. She was friendly, and asked what I'd like to drink. I ordered a water and a cup of seafood gumbo and a butterfly fried shrimp plate with fried okra and red beans and rice. She brought out the gumbo, but with no crackers, then disappeared. I got up to look for her with no luck. So I waited. The next time I saw her she was carrying out my shrimp platter. I asked her for crackers and she immediately retrieved some. She asked if I needed anything else, and I said no. The shrimp tasted fresh like it had come from the gulf. I asked her the shrimps country of origin and she went to ask the chef. She came back out and said it was gulf shrimp, which I could tell. The gumbo was very good, but a cup wasn't worth the $8.99 I paid for it. The okra was just frozen breaded okra. The hushpuppies were thick and heavy, not very good. The red beans and rice was tasty and made with alot of sausage in it. Small portion. During the meal I asked to see a menu again, and again it felt greasy and dirty. I ordered the appetizer crab cakes. When they came out, they looked bulky and the outside was hard. I'd say they were from a frozen bag and deep fried. I took one bite and it did not taste good, so I didn't eat them. I ordered the bread pudding for dessert and was disappointed. It was thick and hard, and not very good as bread puddings go. It certainly wasn't made recently. All in all I was disappointed with my meal and experience. I'd eaten at a Winzells Oyster house in Guntersville, AL before (delicious) and it just seemed like this Greenville, AL location was subpar in store presentation and cleanliness, food quality, and service. I would not recommend it unless positive changes were made across the board. My total cost was $60.98. I've included some photos.
