Ordered the special which was bbq beef sandwich, Lays chips, and tea. Unremarkable bbq compared to other bbq I have experienced. Staff looked unhappy but service was pretty good. Kinda noisy as everyone had their phones on loud. It was a nice break from the country hunting lodge. read more

I forgot to mention that from the time you walk in Hancock's bbq, you feel like your walking into home. It's very friendly and reminds me of the good old days. Employees are always, always very nice and helpful. They have tables and booths to sit in. It's very comforting. I've eaten here about 40 years and I love Hancock's the food is delicious no matter what you eat. The only thing I would like better is I really wish they used DoorDash or a delivery service . I have an illness that prevents me from leaving my house a lot. So I have to use DoorDash . A lot. I hope they never change their menu because it's delicious. read more

In town for a friends wedding and drove to Hancock's at my friends recommendation. I pulled in and the parking lot was packed, but I was able to get a booth immediately. They took my order and I did have to wait a little for the food, but the meat was all really tender and full of flavor. The was a bit of a vinegar style. I enjoyed the fried pickles and baked beans as well. The restaurant had a neat hunting theme. I would definitely eat here again if I'm ever in the area. read more

Hands down some of the best barbecue in the south. This place can be very busy but worth the wait. We had pulled pork, which was delicious , we also tried the banana pudding which was also very good. My friend had the stew and she was very pleased with it. We did go on 4th of July so no ribs were available and they unfortunately had no rolls. We did order a BBQ chicken salad for a friend, which he said was great. Staff was friendly. read more

All the way from California - Best BBQ spot we visited in Alabama! We stopped here for lunch on the way to our son's Convocation at MMI. We have been to a few different places and agreed Hancock was the best. Not only was the bbq delicious but the hospitality made us feel like we were visiting family. We had the bbq plate and bbq rib combo. The flavor of the bbq was smokey, tender, and flavorful. I loved the coleslaw but all the sides were good! They keep things simple with basic barbecue offerings such as ribs and pulled pork along with your typical barbecue sides like baked beans and cole slaw. The menu isn't extensive, but if you are coming in for barbecue, I'm sure your needs will be met. I visit this spot occasionally and a colleague and I went in for lunch. She had the cheeseburger which she says is delicious. I had the ribs, which are always pretty good. I am not a big fan of their sauce, but it's not even needed on the ribs which are packed with flavor. First time trying. Seated immediately and food was brought to the table quickly. I had the BBQ plate with Baked Beans and Cole Slaw. Pork was very good. Fortunately they had more sauce on the table as not quite enough on it from the kitchen. Cole slaw better than most, but not the best I've ever had. Best barbecue we've had since moving to Alabama! We enjoyed everything we had. They do put the barbecue sauce on before bringing out & it is more savory/vinegar sauce so if that's not something you like you may want to ask for it on the side. I grew up having BBQ all around the Selma area. Hancock's was and still is one of the best I have had anywhere. The ribs are always super tender and I love the crispy rib tips you get. Also the pulled pork is outstanding as well and this is before you add sauce to either item. Sometimes the potato salad has a little bit too much dill in it for my taste but the Cole slaw and baked beans are always consistently good. The atmosphere hasn't really changed since the first time I went in there over 25 years ago and that is what makes the place awesome. If you are ever in Selma and are looking for a place to have good BBQ and see some of the country history then go here and grab a plate of ribs and some sides. You will enjoy it for sure. read more

Hancock's Country BarBQ was recommended by a lovely local police officer. We followed her directions, and were not disappointed. We were immediately greeted by a friendly waitress with a killer personality and smile. Upon her advice, we ordered the ribs, and the pulled pork to share . The ribs were tender, with just the right amount of bark, the pulled pork was also good. . The apple sticks were also yummy. The bbq sauce is from an old family recipe, and as is standard in that part of the country, is the vinegary type. The decor is quite interesting,using the local as times of hunting, fishing, and farming as their guide. The food was reasonably priced, and the portions were generous. A classic highway dive in the Alabama Black Belt just outside of Selma. Hancock is always busy but will find a place for you. Always friendly, prompt service. It's a place you go for the food. My group opted for either the BBQ plate or sandwich--well smoked tender pork with a mild BBQ sauce that enhances rather than covers the meat. I went for what has become my favorite item--the Mickey: grilled bun, double cheeseburger, with slaw--the tangy slaw sets it off just right. The building looks like it was build in 1950, with the smoke from all those years still on the wall. Deer heads and Bass that have turned grey with age and smoke. Atmosphere, not a white tablecloth type place. Food: Makes you want to slap yo' Momma! That is Southern redneck for great food! People are friendly and service is fast.
